Find the reference angle R of the given angles. Give your answer to the nearest hundredth.
(a) 5
Procedure: 5(180/pi) = 286.48 degrees
286-360 = -73.52
Referemce angle = 73.52 degrees = 1.283 radians
-------------------------------------------------------
(b)-5
-5(180/pi) = -286.48 degrees
286 + 360 = 73.72

Below is a random sample of shoe sizes for 12 mothers and their daughters.
Daughter 8 8 7.5 8 9 9 8.5 9 9 8 7 8
d-bar = 8.25 ; s = 0.657
----
Mother 7 7 7.5 8 8.5 8.5 7.5 7.5 6 8 7 7
m-bar = 7.46 ; s = 0.721
----------

(a) At α = .01, does this sample show that women’s shoe sizes have increased? State your hypotheses and show all steps clearly.
Ho: ud-um = 0
Ha: ud-um < 0 (this for a right-tail test; you could reverse the inequality
and make a left tail test)
---
Critical Value: z = 2.326...
Test statistic: z(8.25-7.46) = (0.79)/sqrt[(0.657)^2/12 + (0.721)^2/12] = 2.81
p-value: P(z>2.81) = 0.0025
-------
Conclusion: Since p-value < 1%, reject Ho.
daughter's sizes are greater than mother's sizes
---------------------------------------------------------

(b) Is the decision close?
No. Less than (1/4) of 1% of test results could have provided stronger
evidence for rejecting Ho.
-----------
(c) Are you convinced?
Yes
----------------
(d) Why might shoe sizes change over time?
They don't; foot sizes change.

Exponents-negative-and-fractional/179694: I'm working on quadratic equations Equations and inequalities of one variable, in higher degree polynomial equations. Equation (5y-4)^-1/4 - 5(5y-4)^-4/3 =0. I understand that I must factor out (5y-4)^-4/3. I understand "factor out" as meaning to remove this from the equation. However, this results in (5y-4)^-4/3 ((5y-4)-4)=0, which I do not understand. Can someone explain what took place.

(5y-4)^-1/4 - 5(5y-4)^-4/3 =0
(5y-4)^(-3/12) - 5(5y-4)^(-16/12) = 0
----
[(5y-4)^(-16/12)][(5y-4)^(-12/12) - 5] = 0
[(5y-4)^(-16/12)][(5y-4)^-1 - 5] = 0
Solve for "y":
(5y-4)^(-16/12) = 0 or (5y-4)^(-1) = 5
y cannot equal 4/5 because the exponent is negative:
-----------
Solve (5y-4)^-1 = 5
Invert to get:
5y-4 = 1/5
5y = (1/5)+4
5y = 21/5
y = 21/25

A gold smith combined an alloy that costs $430 per gram with an alloy that costs $180 per gram. How many grams of each were used to make a mixture of 200 grams that cost $250 per gram?
---
value + value = value
430x + 180(200-x) = 250*200
430x +180*200 - 180x = 250*200
250x = 70*200
x = 56 grams (amt. of $430 alloy in the mixture)
200-56 = 144 grams (amt. of $180 alloy in the mixture)

Cylinder Volume:
radius = 2mm
base area = 4(pi) mm^2
height = 10 mm
Cylinder volume = 40pi mm^3

2 hemisphere volume = 1 sphere volume
V = (4/3)pi*r^3

The Hudson River flows at a rate of 5 miles per hour. A patrol boat travels 40 miles upriver , and returns in a total time of 6 hours. What is the speed of the boat in still water?
---------------------------------
Upriver DATA:
distance = 40 miles ; rate = b - 5 ; time = d/r = 40/(b-5)
-----------------------------------
Downriver DATA:
distance = 40 miles : rate = b + 5 ; time = 40/(b+5)
----------------------
Equation:
time + time = 6 hrs
40/(b-5) + 40/(b+5) = 6
40(b+5) + 40(b-5) = 6(b^2-25)
80b = 6b^2 - 150
Rearrange:
3b^2 - 40b -150 = 0
------------------------------
positive solution:
b = [40 + sqrt(40^2 - (4*3*-150)]/6
b = 23.05 mph (boat speed in still water)

1.3+i√5/3-i√5
Is that (1/3)sqrt(5) or sqrt[5/3] ?
-----------------------------
2.4-i√2/i√2
Use parentheses so we can tell where numerators and denominators begin and end.

Probability-and-statistics/176058: A sample of 25 concession stand purchases at the October 22 matinee of Bride of Chucky showed a mean purchase of $5.29 with a standard deviation of $3.02. For the October 26 evening showing of the same movie, for a sample of 25 purchases the mean was $5.12 with a standard deviation of $2.14. The means appear to be very close, but not the variances. At α = .05, is there a difference in variances? Show all steps clearly, including an illustration of the decision rule. You throw a baseball straight up into the air a a velocity of 45 feet per second. you release the baseball at a height of 5.5 feet and catch it when it falls back to a height of 6 feet.
a. use the position equation to write a mathematical model for the height of the baseball.
h(t) = -16t^2 + 45t + 5.5
-------------------------------------------------------------
b. find the height of the baseball after 0.5 second.
h(0.5) = -16(0.5)^2 + 45(0.5) + 5.5 = 24 ft.
--------------------------------------------------

c. How many seconds is the baseball in the air (use a graphing utility to verify the answer.)
-16t^2 + 45t + 5.5 = 0
Use the quadratic formula to get:
t = [-45 +- sqrt(45^2 - 4*-16*5.5)]/-32
Positive solution:
t = [-45 - sqrt(2377)]/-32
t = 2.93 seconds

--------
Put "0" in place of x and solve for "y":
a) y=6x+2 ; y = 0+2 so does not pass thru (0,5)
b) y=6x+5 : y = 0+5 so does
c) y=5x+5 : y = 0+5 so does
d) y=5x+6 : y = 0+6 do does not

Equation:
interext + interest = interest
Amelia's parents and grandparents have both opened savings accounts to save for Amelia's education. This year, Amelia's parents' savings account earned 5% interest and her grandparent's account earned 8% interest. This year, the two savings accounts have earned a total of $460 in interest. 0.05x + 0.08(6500-x) = 460
Multiply thru by 100 to get:
5x + 8(6500-x) = 46000
-3x + 8*6500 = 46000
-3x = -6000
x = $2000 (amt. invested at 5%)
6500-2000 = $4500 (amt. invested at 8%)

Quadratic_Equations/179605: Find all real solutions of the quadratic equation. (Enter NONE if a solution does not exist.)
x^2-+sqrt%28+13x+%29+ + 3= 0
i subtracted 3 and x^2 to the other side to isolate the radical
-+sqrt%28+13x+%29+= -x^2-3
then i squared both sides of the equation to get rid of the radical and got
13x= x^4+6x^2+9 i then subtracted 13x to get all the variables on one side
x^4+6x^2-13x+9=0 i don't know how to solve the rest of the problem. I tried moving the 9 to the other side then factoring out an x and trying to factor the rest of the problem but didn't work i also tried completing the square that didn't work either

You have a right triangle and you want to find the length of the hypotenuse.
h = sqrt[400^2 + 100^2]
h = sqrt[160000 + 10000]
