Equation:
interest + interest = interest
0.095x + 0.12(25000-x) = 2700
Multiply thru by 1000 to get:
95x + 120*25000 - 120x = 2700000
-25x = 2700000 - 120*25000
x = $12,000 (amt. invested at 9.5%

equal to 1. Describe both the grouping approach as well as reversing FOIL.
Contrast the two methods by means of an example. Discuss which is the best
approach and why.
----------------------------------
The FOIL process results in a trinomial when the "O" and the "I"
products are "like" terms and can be combined.
-----------------------------------------
The inverse operation takes a middle term of a trinomial and breaks
it into two terms that allow for common factorization.
-------------------------------------------
Example: 2x^2 + 7x + 6
AC = 12
B = 7
---------
Think of 2 numbers whose product is AC and whose sum is B
The numbers are 3 and 4.
Break the middle term into 3x+4x then find a common factor as follows:
----------------
2x^2 + 3x + 4x + 6
x(2x+3) + 2(x+3)
(x+3)(x+2)

-----------------------------------------------------
Equations:
5n + 10d = 605 cents
5(n-10) + 10(2d) = 985 cents
--------------------------------
Rearrange:
n + 2d = 121
5n + 20d - 1035 = 0 ; n + 4d - 207 = 0
----------------
Modify:
n + 2d = 121
n + 4d = 207
---------------
Subtract 1st from 2nd to get:
2d = 86
d = 43 (number of dimes)

Substitute to solve for n:
n+ 2*43 = 121
n = 35 (number of nickels)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!the diagram shows the a right angled triangle. based on the length of the sides of the triangle form a quadratic equation in term of y.
AB=(y+3)cm
BC=3y cm
AC= (4y-3) cm
----------------
The answer depends on which of the lengths is the hypotenuse;
I'm going to assume that y+3 is the hypotenuse.
----------------
(y+3)^2 = (3y)^2 + (4y-3)^2
y^2 + 6y + 9 = 9y^2 + 16y^2-24y+9
24y^2 -30y = 0
3y(8y-10) = 0
y = 0 or y = 10/8 = 5/4
------------------------
If y = 5/4 cm
AB = (5/4) + 3 = 5/4 + 12/4 = 17/4 cm
BC = 3*(5/4) = 15/4
AC = 4(5/4)-3 = 5-3 = 2 cm
================================
If one of the other sides is really the hypotenuse,
use Pythagoras, as I have, and solve for "y".

You can put this solution on YOUR website!Let m(x) be the slope of the tangent line to the curve y = x^3 - 2x^2 + x at the point (x,y). Find the instantaneous rate of change of m(x) with respect to x at the point (2,2).
------------------
Take the derivative to get:
m(x) = 3x^2 - 4x + 1
----
Then slope at (2,2) = m(2) = 3*4 -4*2+1 = 5

Linear-equations/180821: Can you please help me. I am very confuse with this problem.
The accompanying table shows the percent of the adult population that married before age 25 in several different years. Using the year as the independent variable, find the linear regression equation. Round the regression coefficients to the nearest hundredth. Using the equation found above, estimate the percent of the adult population in the year 2009 that will marry before age 25, and round to the nearest tenth of a percent
Year(x) Percent (Y)
1971 42.4
1976 37.4
1980 37.1
1984 34.1
1989 32.1
1993 28.8
1997 25.7
2000 25.5
thank you very much! 1 solutions

2000 25.5
----------------------
You need a calculator or some software to generate the linear regression
equation.
Enter the data as (71,42.4) (76,37.4) (80,37.1) etc.
Run the program to get: f(x) = -0.58x + 82.92
-----------------------
estimate the percent of the adult population in the year 2009 that will marry before age 25, and round to the nearest tenth of a percent
---
2009 means x = 109
f(109) = -0.58*109 + 82.92 = 19.75%

Functions/180819: Determine whether the equation defines y as a function of x.
x^2 + y = 36;
|x| - y = 4 1 solutions
Answer 135559 by stanbon(57250) on 2009-02-07 21:57:03 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Determine whether the equation defines y as a function of x.
x^2 + y = 36
Rearrange:
y = -x^2 + 36
Ans: y is a function of x.
----------------------------------
|x| - y = 4
Rearrange:
y = |x|-4
Ans: y is a function of x

You can put this solution on YOUR website!Graphing a line given a point and slope. Draw /1 through (-4,0) and (0,6).
---
slope = (6-0) / (0--4) = 6/4 = 3/2
-------------------------
Form: y = mx + b
(0,6) is the y-intercept
Equation:
y = (3/2)x + 6
===================
What is the slope of any line parallel to /1?
Ans: 3/2
-------------------------------
Draw /2 through the origin and parallel to /1
Thru the origin means the y-intercept is at 0
Equation:
y = (3/2)x + 0
y = (3/2)x

costs $36.60, then what is the cost of 12 feet of 0.75 inch
diameter pipe? 1 solutions

You can put this solution on YOUR website!Solve Variation Problem
The cost of pipe at Home Depo varies jointly as the length and
diameter of the pipe.
---
c = k
--
If 20 feet of 0.5 inch diameter pipe
costs $36.60
Solve for "k":
36.60 = k[20*0.5]
k = 36.60/10 = 3.66
---
Equation:
c = 3.66[Ld]
---
, then what is the cost of 12 feet of 0.75 inch
diameter pipe?
---
c = 3.66[12*0.75]
cost = 3.66*9
cost = $32.94
