Given the coordinate of one endpoint of segment AB and its midpoint M, find the coordinates of the other endpoint.
A(0,9), M(2,5)
-----------------------
Let the other end point be (x,y)
-----------------
The midpoint coordinates are the average of the corresponding
end point coordinates.
-----------------------
(x+0)/2 = 2
x = 4
----
(y+9)/2 = 5
y+9 = 10
y = 1

Let the numbers be a and b:
Equations:
a + b = 10
3*a = 8*b-3
------------------
Rearrange to solve for "b":
a = 10-b
3(10-b) = 8b - 3
30-3b = 8b -3
11b = 33
b = 3
Therefore a = 10-3 = 7

Quadratic_Equations/210011: High concentrations of Carbon Monoxide (CO) can cause coma and possible death. The time required for a person to reach a COHb level capable of causing a coma can be approximated by the quadratic model. 4 = 0.0002x^2 - .316x + 127.9
-------------
0.0002x^2 - .316x + 123.9 = 0

Solve using the Quadratic Formula:
x = [0.316 +- sqrt(0.316^2 - 4*0.0002*123.9)]/[2(0.0002)]
---
x = [0.316 +- sqrt(0.0007360]/0.0004
x = [0.316+-0.027129]/0.0004
x = 857.82 ppm or x = 722.18 ppm

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
it says find Sn for each arithmetic series described. a1=20, an=112, d=4. how do i find it ?
-------------------------
S(n) is the sum of n terms of the series.
The formula is S(n) = (n/2)(a(1)+a(n))
-----------------------------------
You need to find "n"
a(n) = a(1)+(n-1)d
112 = 20 + (n-1)*4
92 = (n-1)4
n-1 = 23
n = 24
---
So you are looking for the sum of the 1st 24 terms of the series.
---
Use the formula to get: S(24) = (24/2)(20+112) = 12*132 = 1584

------------------------
Factor the denominator:
x^2-2x = 0
x(x-2) = 0
x = 0 or x = 2
---------------------
The denominator would be zero if x were 0 or if x were 2.
So those values are not allowed in the domain.

Domain is All Real Numbers except x= 0 and x= 2

Walt made an extra $5000 last year from a part-time job. He invested part of the money at 6% and the rest at 10%. He made a total of $420 in interest. How much was invested at 10%?
-----------------
Quantity Equation: s + t = 5000
Interest Equation:0.06s + 0.10t = 420
---------------------------------------------
Modify the equations for elimination:
Multiply thru the 1st by 6 ; Multiply thru the 2nd by 100
6s + 6t = 6*5000
6s + 10t = 42000
-----------------------
Subtract the 1st equation from the 2nd and solve for "t"
4t = 12000
t = $3000 (amount invested at 10%)

L X W X H
(50 X W) X 2.5=2500m^3
----------------
Good so far:
Now isolate the W after you simplify the left side:
125*W = 2500
Now divide both sides by 125 to get:
W = 20 meters (that is the width)

Since the line of symmetry passes thru the vertex
the line of symmetry must be x = -4

Probability-and-statistics/209866: A committee of three is selected at random from a set consisting of five Democrats, eight Republicans,and two Independents.

A committee of three is selected at random from a set consisting of five Democrats, eight Republicans,and two Independents.
(a) What is the probability that the committee consists of all Democrats?
# of ways to select 3 Democrats: 5C3 = 10
# of ways to pick 3 from the group: 15C3 = 455
---
P(pick 3 Demoncrats) = 10/455
============================================
(b) What is the probability that the committee consists of no Republicans?
# of ways to pick no Republicans: 7C3
# of ways to pick 3 from the group: 15C3
P(pick 3 that are not Republicans) = 7C3/15C3 = 35/455

Quadratic_Equations/209862: I need to solve for x using the quadratic equation. The problem is... "(5/(w^2))-(10/w)+2=0. I need to solve for x, I need more than an answer, I need the steps.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(5/(w^2))-(10/w)+2=0
Multiply thru by w^2 to get:
2w^2 - 10w + 5 = 0
---
w = [10 +-sqrt(100-4*2*5)]/4
---
w = [10 +- sqrt(60)]/4
---
w = [10 +- 2sqrt(15)]/4
Simplify to see two answers

-------------------------------
Let the two brothers savings be a and b.
a + b = 55
a = b + 15
-------
Substitute for "a" to solve for "b":
b+15 + b = 55
2b = 40
b = 20 (amt saved by b)
------------------------------
But a + b = 55, so a = 35

The question says tell which rate is greater.
1 1/4 miles in 2 minutes and 4 seconds,
(5/4) miles in 124 seconds
(5/4)/124 miles in 1 second
0.01008 miles in 1 secnd
------------------------------------

OR
1 3/16 miles in 1 minute and 55 seconds...
(19/16) miles in 115 seconds
(19/16)/115 miles in 1 second
0.01033 miles in 1 second
--------------------------------
So1 3/16 miles in 1 min and 55 seconds is faster

y is greater than or equal to -1 or y is greater than or equal to 3
-------------------------------------------------
Draw a number line and label it "y".
Pick a point and label it -1.
Pick a point to the right of -1 and label it 3.
-----------------------------------------------------
Put a solid circle at -1
Put a solid circle at 3
-----------------------------
Draw a line segment joining the two solid circles.

The circles and the segment comprise the graph you want.

b.Evaluate (n^2+ n) /2 for n=1,2,3,4,5 and 6.
Compare the sequence you get with your answer for part a.
If n = 1 you get (1+1)/2 = 1
If n = 2 you get (4+2)/2 = 3
If n = 3 you get (9+3)/2 = 6
etc.

c.Draw a diagram to represent (n squared +n)/2 for n=5.
(25+5)/2 = 15
