The initial height a ball is thrown in the air is 80 feet, velocity 64 ft. per sec. and g is 32 feet/sec squared. I am supposed to figure out when it will hit the ground in 2 different ways.
---------------
h(t) = -16t^2 + vot + so
---
The height is zero when the ball hits the ground:
Solve -16t^2+64t+80 = 0
Divide thru be -16 to get:
t^2 - 4t -5 = 0
Factor:
(t-5)(t+1) = 0
Positive solution:
t = 5 seconds
-------------------------
Graph the equations to see when the ball hits the ground:

The measure of the supplement of an angle exceeds three times the measure of the complement of the angle by 12. Find the measure of half of the supplement.

Let the angle be "x".
Supplement is 180-x
complement is 90-x

Equation:
180-x - 3(90-x) = 12
180-x - 270 + 3x = 12
2x = 102
x = 51 degrees

Brett usually takes 50 min. to groom the horses. After working 10 min., he was joined by Angela and they finished the grooming in 15 min. How long would it have taken Angela working alone?
-----
Brett DATA:
time = 50 min/job ; rate = 1/50 job/min

Angela DATA
time = x min/job ; rate = 1/x job/min
------------------------------------------
Equation:
Note: together rate = 1/50 + 1/x = (x+50)/50x job/min

Brett work alone + together work = 1 job done
(1/50)(10) + [(x+50)/50x](15) = 1
(1/5) + (15x + 750)/50x = 1
(15x + 750)/50x = 4/5
(15x+750)/10x = 4

25x = 750
x = 30 minutes (amount of time Angela would require to do the job alone)

suppose that the distribution is bell shaped. if approximately 68% of the relative increase in stock price lie between .61% and .87%, then the approximate value of the standard deviation for the distribution is ?
---------
68% lies within one standard deviation of the mean.
So 0.87-0.61 = 0.26 is 2 standard deviations (one to the left
and one to the right of the mean).
--
So one std is 0.26/2 = 0.13 or 13%

---
The Theorem says "at least 1-(1/k^2) of the population lies within k
standard deviations of the mean".
Your "k" is 3.
So Cheb says at least 1-(1/3)^2 = 8/9 = 89% of the pop lies within 3 std.

Suppose the the distribution is bell shaped if approximately of the fares lie between $21.98 and $29.82, then the approximate value of the standard deviation for the distribution, according the the empirical rule is = ?

Probability-and-statistics/255231: Please help me this one question..I am lost...
Based on the information given for each of the following studies, decide whether to reject the null hypothesis. For each, give the Z-score cutoff (or cutoffs) on the comparison distribution at which the null hypothesis should be rejected, the Z score on the comparison distribution for the sample score, and your conclusion. Assume that all populations are normally distributed.
Study Population Sample Score p Tails of Test
µ s
A 5 1 7 .05 1 (high predicted)
B 5 1 7 .05 2
C 5 1 7 .01 1 (high predicted)
D 5 1 7 .01 2

---------------------------------
Are you saying the following ?
For study B the mean is 5, sample std. is 1, sample mean is 7, level
of significance is 5%, the test is 2-tail
---
If so, the critical values are: z = +/-1.96
If so, the test statistic is z=(7-5)/[1/(sqrt(5)] = 4.47
Then you reject Ho because the test statistic is in the rejection interval.

Am I reading you correctly?

The credit score of a 35 year old applying for a mortgage is normally distributed with a mean of 600 abd a standard deviation of 100.
--------------------------
A) Find the credit score that defines the upper 5 percent.
The cutoff z-score is 1.645
Use x = zs+u to find the raw score.
x = 1.645*100+600
x = 164.5+600
x = 764.5
--------------------------
B) Seventy- five percent of customers will have a credit score higher than what value?
That would be the left-tail cutoff for 25%:
That z is invNorm(0.25) = -0.6745
x = -0.6745*100+600
x = -67.45+600
x = 532.55
===============================
C) In what range would the middle 80 percent of credit scores lie.
That is a left-tail cutoff at 10% and a right-tail cutoff at 90%
z = invNorm(0.10) = -1.2816 and z = +1.2816
I'll let you figure out the x values.

At an outpatient mental health clinic, appointment cancellations occur at a mean rate of 1.5 per day on a typical Wednesday is Poisson.
A) What is the probability that no cancellations will occur on a particular Wednesday?
B) What is the probability that one cancellation will occur on a particular Wednesday?
C)What is that probability that more than two cancellations will occur on a particular Wednesday?

----
If you have a TI-84 calculator you just plug in the mean rate and the
number of occurences you expect to get the probability.
A) What is the probability that no cancellations will occur on a particular Wednesday?
poissonpdf(1.5,0)= 0.2231..
---------------------------------
B) What is the probability that one cancellation will occur
on a particular Wednesday?
poissonpdf(1.5.1)= 0.3347

---------------------------------
C)What is that probability that more than two cancellations will occur on a particular Wednesday?
poissonpdf(1.5,2)= 0.2510
-------------------------------
If you need the formula I'll have to give it to
you later; have to run right now.

Quadratic_Equations/255127: A parabola forms the top of a fencing panel. This parabola can be modeled by the graph of the function y=0.03125x^2-0.25x+4 where x and y are measured in feet and y represents the number of feet the parabola is above the ground. How far above the ground is the lowest point of the parabola formed by the fence?
Do I start of the problem by using the formula
x= -b/2a ?
If so would it be
--0.25/2(0.03125) ?

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing my question. It is okay if you cannot answer it, I understand.
Thank you again so much really appreciate it.

-b/2a is the x-coordinate.
Plug that into the equation to find the number of feet the parabola is
above the ground.

find the center & radius of the circle with the equation
x%5E2%2By%5E2-6x%2B10=0
----
Complete the squareon the x and the y-terms:
---
x^2 - 6x + 9 + y^2 = -1
(x-3)^2 + (y-0)^2 = -1
-----------------------------
This is not a circle because of the -1 on the right side.
