Angles/256495: I have this question on a homework sheet for review. We covered this topic earlier in the year but I cant remember the steps to take to solve. The question is "An angle is half the size of its compliment. What is the measure of the larger angle." I tried X+1/2=90 and got x=36. I was told that was wrong is the correct answer 54? Thanks!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"An angle is half the size of its compliment. What is the measure of the larger angle."
--------------------------------------
Let the angle be "x".
Its complement is 90-x
-----
Equation:
x = (1/2)(90-x)
x = 45 - (x/2)
(3/2)x = 45
x = 30 degrees
----
The complement is 90-30 = 60 degrees.

3x+5y=16
2x- y=2
-----
Solve the 2nd equation for "y":
y = 2x-2
------
Substitute into the 1st equation and solve for "x":
3x + 5(2x-2) = 16
13x -10 = 16
13x = 26
x = 2
---
Since y = 2x-2, y = 2*2-2 = 2
----
Final Answer: (2,2)

find the graph of the parabola y^2+6y+8x+25=0
------------
Complete the square on the y-terms:
y^2+6y+9 = -8x-25+9
(y+3)^2 = -8x-16

solve for "x":
8x = -(y+3)^2 - 16

x = (-1/8)(y+3)^2 - 2

Graph the parabola:
Vertex at (-2,-3)
Opens to the left.

If y = -3, x = -2

That is enough information to sketch the graph.

The average weight of a package of rolled oats is supposed to be at least 18 ounces. A sample of 18 packages shows a mean of 17.78 with a standard deviation of 0.41 ounces.
a) What is the appropriate null and alternate hypothesis to determine if the packages are under filled?
Ho: u >= 18
H1: u < 18
------------------------------
b) What is the p-value for the hypothesis test?
The test statistic is t = (17.78-18)/[0.41/sqrt(18)] = -0.22/0.09664
= -2.2765
---
So the p-value is
P(t<-2.2765 when df = 17) = tcdf(-100,-2.2765,17) = 0.01802..
--------------------------
c) Using α = 0.01, draw a conclusion for the hypothesis test. Make sure you state your conclusion in the context of the problem.
---
Since the p-value is greater than 1%, we fail to reject Ho.
Based on this test we do not believe the rolled oats packages are under filled.
------------------------
d) Using α = 0.05, draw a conclusion for the hypothesis test. Make sure you state your conclusion in the context of the problem.
---
Since the p-value is less than 5% we reject Ho.
Based on this test we conclude the rolled oats packs do not contain at least
18 ounces.

----
Quantity Equation: e + (e/20) = 50
Value Equation: 120e + 144(e/20) = 6072
--------------------------
Multiply thru the Quantity equation by 120:
120e + 6e = 120*50
120e + 144(e/20) = 6072
--------------------------------
Subtract the 1st Eq. from the 2nd and solve for "e":
144(e/20)- 6e = 72
144e - 120e = 72*20
24e = 72*20
e = 3*20
e = 60
---
But there must be 1 steward for each 20 employees or fraction thereof
and only 50 personnel are to be hired.
So # of stewards is 3 and number of employees is 47
------
Checking:
120*47 + 144*3 = $6072

g(x)=cx
f[g(x)] = f[cx] = 2^(cx)
goes to infinity as x gets larger
------------------------
g(x)=c/x
f[g(x)] = f[c/x] = 2^(c/x)
goes to 1 as x gets larger
-------------------------
g(x)=x/c
f[g(x)} = 2^(x/c)
goes to infinity as x gets larger
--------------------------
g(x)=x-c
f[g(x)] = 2^(x-c)

g(x)=logcx

how do I find the slope of 2x +3y =15
--------
Put the equation in the slope-intercept form:
3y = -2x + 15
y = (-2/3)x + 5

----
Assuming the events are independent:
P(neither) = P(not #1)*P(not #2) = 0.20*0.55 = 0.11

solve this
x^2 + y^2 = 100
using completing the square or any other method
---------------------------------------------------
The square is already complete.
The solution is every point on a circle that has
a radius of 10 and has its center at (0,0).

solve 3^x=7^2 using both interpolation and logarithms.
-----------------------------
Take the log of both sides and solve for "x":
xlog(3) = log(49)
x = [log(49)]/[log(3)]
x = 3.5425

Point A (-4,1) is in the standard (x,y) coordinate plane. What must be the coordinates of point B so that the line x=2 is the perpendicular bisector of AB?
-------------------
Draw the picture so you can see what you are doing.
Plot the point: (-4,1)
Draw the line x=2; it will pass thru (2,1) and (2,1) will be the mid-point
of AB.
----
Let the coordinates of B be (x,y):
(-4+x)/2 = 2
-4+x = 4
x = 8
--------
(1+y)/2 = 1
1+y = 2
y = 1
-------
The coordinate of B are (8,1)

(a) two satisfactory
P(2 good) = 70C2/131C2 = 2415/8515 = 0.2836..
-----
(b) none with low gain
P(no low gain) = 113C2/131C2 = 6328/8515 = 0.7432..
---------
(c) one satisfactory and one with high gain
P(one high and one low) = 1-[P(2 good)+P(2 low)+P(2 high)]
= 1 - [0.2836 + (1-0.7432)+ 43C2/131C2]
= 0.6465

Comment:
If there is a common difference, the sequence is linear.
If there is a common multiple, the sequence is geometric
-------------------------------------------------
a. 1,6,11,16,21,...common diff. of 5 , so it is linear
------------------------------
b. -1,7,15,23,31,...common diff. of 8, so it is linear
------------------------------
c. 1,21,31,41,...no common diff
------------------------------
d. 1,3,9,27,81.....common multiple of 3, so it is geometric
