---------
To-trip DATA:
distance = d miles ; rate = 60 mph ; time = d/60 hrs

From-trip DATA:
distance = d miles ; rate = 50 mph ; time = d/50 hrs

--------------
Note: The asymptote for y = e^(x-2) is a horizontal axis; it is
y = 0. The (x-2) moves the graph 2 to the right but does not change
the horizontal asymptotel
---------------
To find the inverse proceed as follows:
f(x)=e^(x-2)
Interchange x and y to get:
x = e^(y-2)
Now solve for "y":
ln(x) = y-2
y = ln(x)+2 is the inverse
---

Part 2: is my vertical asymptote 2 for the inverse?
The asymptote is now a vertical asymptote. The 2 raises
the curve but that has no effect on a vertical asymptote.
Just as the horizontal asymptote on the function was y = 0,
the inverse has a vertical asymptote and it is x = 0

x+(1)/(x)=(5)/(x)
-------------
x + (1/x) = (5/x)
Multiply thru by "x":
x^2 + 1 = 5
x^2 = 4
x = +2 or x = -2

Probability-and-statistics/298272: Can anybody HELP! with these questions, Greatly appreciated. Thank You All.
A) What role does a sample play in determining the point estimate? Let's say we're trying to determine the average age of a town; how might we use a sample to do this?
B)What is a confidence interval centered on? How do we determine its width? What role does the level of confidence play?
If α = 0.10, and we have a one-tailed situation, what would be the critical value? What would be the corresponding critical region?

C)"Level of confidence"
What does the level of confidence tell us about a confidence interval? What are typical values of the level of confidence?
Let's say we're trying to prove that the population mean is greater than 15. What would be the null hypothesis?
D) "Type 1 error"
Assume that the analysis was conducted properly; why was the null hypothesis rejected, even though it is true?
E) "Critical region"
α is the likelihood of a Type I error. How do we calculate the critical value, knowing α?
F)What is the relationship between the maximum error of estimate and the width of a confidence interval? How is the maximum error of estimate calculated?

A) What role does a sample play in determining the point estimate? Let's say we're trying to determine the average age of a town; how might we use a sample to do this?
Take a random sample and find the average of the people in the sample.
-------------------------------------------------------------
B)What is a confidence interval centered on?
It is centered on the mean of a sample.
--------------------------------------------
How do we determine its width?
The width is 2 times the standard error
--------------------------------------------
What role does the level of confidence play?
More confidence requires a wider confidence interval.
--------------------------------------------
If α = 0.10, and we have a one-tailed situation, what would be the critical value?
z = 1.2816..
--------------------
What would be the corresponding critical region?
10%
---------------------
C)"Level of confidence"
What does the level of confidence tell us about a confidence interval?
We have a certain confidence that a population parameter is between
such and such numbers.
-------------------------------
What are typical values of the level of confidence?
95%,99%
----------------------
Let's say we're trying to prove that the population mean is greater than 15. What would be the null hypothesis?
Ho: u <= 15 because equality must ALWAYS be stated in Ho.
----------------------
D) "Type 1 error"
Assume that the analysis was conducted properly; why was the null hypothesis rejected, even though it is true?
Type I error is the probability Ho is rejected when in fact it is true.
----------------------
E) "Critical region"
α is the likelihood of a Type I error. How do we calculate the critical value, knowing α?
Find the z or t value(s) that is the boundary for the reject tail(s).
----------------------
F)What is the relationship between the maximum error of estimate and the width of a confidence interval?
The width of the interval is two times the max error of estimate.
------------------------------------------------------
How is the maximum error of estimate calculated?
ME = z*(std) where z depends on the level of confidence

How do you solve:
If a number is added to the numerator of 5/7 and twice as much is subtracted from the denominator, the result is 8. What is the number?
---
Let the number be "x":
Equation:
(5+x)/(7-2x) = 8
----
Cross-multiply:
5+x = 8(7-2x)
5+x = 56 - 16x
17x = 51
x = 3

Evaluate
2. Ln e^3x ( 3x is the exponent)
Fact: ln(x) =k means e^k = x
ln(x) is the exponent you put on e so you get the number "x".
---------------------------
Your Problem:
ln(e^(3x)) = 3x

Find the exact value of the volume of a can of asparagus with a diameter 6 centimeters and height of 10 centimeters. Include correct units with your solution. Use "pi" for p.
---
Volume = Bh where B is the area of the base and h is the height.
B = (pi)(6/2)^2 = 9pi cm^2
---
V = (9)(10)= cm^3

A brand of water softener salt comes in package marked net weight 40 lb. The company that packages it claims that the bag contains an average of 40lb of salt and the standard deviation of the weight is 1.5lb. Assume that the weights are normally distributed.
a. Obtain the probability that the weight of one randomly selected bag of water-softener salt will be 39 lb or less if the company's claim is true.
Find the z-value of 39 using u = 40 and sigma = 1.5:
z(39) = (39-40)/1.5 = -1/1.5 = -2/3
-------
Then find the probability z< -2/3
P(z, -2/3) = normalcdf(-100,-2/3) = 0.2525
------------------------------------
b. determine the probability that the mean weight of 10 randomly selected bags of water-softener salt will be 39 lb or less if the company's claim is true.
Find the t-value of 39 using u = 40 and s = 1.5/sqrt(10):
t(39) = (39-40)/[1.5/srt(10)] = -2.1082
Then find the probaility t< -2.1082 when df = 9
P(t< -2.1082 with df = 9) = tcdf(-100,-2.1082,9) = 0.0321
-----------------------------------------
c. If you bought one bag of water-softener salt and it weighed 39 lb, would you consider this evidence that the company's claim is incorrect? Explain your answer.
Determine the z-value of 39 as a number of standard deviations away from
the mean using sigma = 1.5.
z(39) = -2/3
Make your decision.
The weight of the bag is 2/3 of a standard devation below the mean weight.
That is not unusual; the company's claim might still be correct.
-----------------------------------

d. If you bought 10 bags of water-softener salt and their mean weight was 39 lb, would you consider this evidence that the company's claim is incorrect? Explain your answer.
t(39) is more than 2 standard deviations below the mean. That is significant.
The company's claim may be incorrect.
