If a researcher wishes to determine whether there is evidence that the mean family income in the US is greater than 30,000 then:
The correct hypothesis setup would be:
Since "equality" must ALWAYS be in the Ho statement,
Ho: u <= 30,000
Ha: u > 30,000
---
The Ha statement determines the kind of test.
If Ha is a "not equal to" statement, the test is 2-tail
If Ha is a "<" statement, the test is left tail
If Ha is a ">" statement, the test is right tail.
-----
Your problem is a right tail test.

A certain population obeys the natural law of decay. at a certian time,the population is 40,000. three years later the population is 38000. approximately how long does it take the population to decline from 40,000 to 20,000?
-------------------
You have two points (0,40000) and (3,38000)
----
Assuming the decay is exponential, use the
model A(t) = ab^t
-----
Solve for a and b
------
Using (0,40000), solve for "a":
40,000 = ab^0
a = 40,000
----------------------
Now, A(t) = 40,000*b^t
Using (3,38000), solve for "b":
38000, = 40,000*b^3
19/20 = b^3
b = 0.983
===================
Equation:
A(t) = 40000*0.983^t
-------------------------
When does the population decay to 20,000?
20,000 = 40000*0.983^t
0.983^t = 0.5
t = log(0.5)/log(0.983)
t is approximately 40
Rounded up you would get 41 years

A teacher has prepared a 6-item test with the first three items being true or false and the last three items being multiple-choice with four choices each. What is the probability that a student will score 100% if every answer is chosen at random?
-------
P(1st three are correct) = (1/2)^3 = 1/8
---
P(last 3 are correct) = (1/4)^3 = 1/64
----
P(6 correct)= (1/8)(1/64) = 1/512

Money_Word_Problems/327131: Three loaves of bread and two jars of peanut butter cost cost $5.49. Four loaves of bread and three jars of peanut butter cost $7.75. Find the rice of a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Three loaves of bread and two jars of peanut butter cost cost $5.49.
3b + 2p = 5.49
------------------------
Four loaves of bread and three jars of peanut butter cost $7.75
4b + 3p = 7.75
------------------------
Find the price of a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter.
------
Multiply thru 1st by 3
Multiply thru 2nd by 2
------------------------------
9b + 6p = 3*5.49
8b + 6p = 2*7.75
---------------------
Subtract 2nd from 1st and solve for "b":
b = $0.97 (price of loaf of bread)
-----------------
Substitute into 4b+3p = 7.75 to solve for "p":
4(0.97) + 3p = 7.75
3p = 3.87
p = $1.29 (price of peanut butter)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
solve for a.
n= 353/172-a
-----
I'm going to assume the denominator is (172-a).
If that is correct you get:
(172-a) = 353/n
----
Then a = 172 - [352/n]
---
Or
a = [172n-352]/n

F(t)= 270 - 70 log5 (4t + 1),where t is measured in years. How much space is left when t = 1?
-------------------
F(1) = 270 - 70*log5(4+1)
---
F(1) = 270 - 70*log5(5)
-----
Note: log5(5) is 1 because 5^1 = 5.
-----
F(1) = 270-70
---
F(1) = 200
