Fact: rate + rate = together rate
-----------------------------------------
Let "m" be the men's rate and "w" be the woman's rate.
-------------------
Four men and three women can do a job in 6 days.
---
4m+3w = 1/6
-------------------------------
When five men and six women work on the same job, the work gets completed in 4 days.
---
5m+6w= 1/4
=================
Multiply thru 1st equation by 2 to get:
8m + 6w = 1/3
----
Subtract 2nd from latter to get:
3m = (1/3)-(1/4)
3m = 1/12
m = 1/36
---
Solve for "w" using 4m+3w = 1/6
---
4(1/36) + 3w = 6/36
3w = 2/36
w = 1/54
=================
How long will a woman take to do the job, if she works alone on it?

Sandy uses a 1/2-ton pickup (a truck that can carry 1000 pounds) to transport ingredients for mortar.
Sand comes in 50-pound bags and
cement comes in 40-pound bags.
Mortar is made from five bags of sand for every bag of cement.
Equations:
50s + 40c = 1000
s = 5c

Substitute for "s" and solve for "c":
50(5c) + 40c = 1000
290c = 1000

Max number of cement bags is 3
Since s = 5c, s = 15 (# of bags of sand needed with 3 bags of cement.

Travel_Word_Problems/350283: Kesha drove from Buffalo to Syracuse at an average rate of 48 miles per hour. On the return trip along the same road she was able to travel at an average rate of 60 miles per hour. The trip from Buffalo to Syracuse took one-half hour longer than the return trip. How long did the return trip take?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Kesha drove from Buffalo to Syracuse at an average rate of 48 miles per hour.
---
B to S DATA:
rate = 48 mph ; time = x hrs ; distance = 48x miles
-------------------------------------
On the return trip along the same road she was able to travel at an average rate of 60 miles per hour. The trip from Buffalo to Syracuse took one-half hour longer than the return trip.
-------------------------------------
S to B DATA:
rate = 60 mph ; time = x-(1/2) hrs ; distance = 60(x-(1/2)) = 60x-30 miles
---------------------------------
How long did the return trip take?
Equation:
distance = distance
48x = 60x-30
12x = 30
x = 5/2 hrs
x-(1/2) = 5 hrs (time for return trip)

Us e the compound interest formula A=P(1+r)t and the given information to solve for. A=$9,000,000 P=$20,000 t=40
------
9000000 = 20,000(1+r)^t
450 = (1+r)^40

1+r = 1.1650
r = 0.1650
r = 16.5%

An insect population P in a certain area fluctuates with the seasons.
It is estimated that P=17,000+4500sin pi(t)/52, where t is given in weeks. Determine the number of weeks it would take for the population to initially reach 20,000.
-----
20,000 = 17,000+4500sin pi(t)/52
---
3000 = 4500*sin(pi*t/52)
-----
1/15 = sin(pi*t/52)
---
(pi*t/52) = sin^-1(1/15)
---
(pi/52)t = 0.0667
pi*t = 3.4692
t = 1.1043 weeks

What is the difference between a point estimate and a confidence interval estimate?
---
A point estimate is some sample statistic such as sample mean, or
sample proportion.
A confidence interval estimate is a derived interval around a
sample mean or sample proportion that may or may not contain the
population mean or population proportion.
--------------------------------------
Does the confidence interval always contain the true population parameter? Yes or No. No is the correct answer.
--------
Interpret what is meant by a 95% confidence interval.
Using the method prescribed we can state with 95% confidence
that the interval does contain the population parameter.

Word_Problems_With_Coins/350257: Jamil always throws loose change into a pencil holder on his desk and takes it out every two weeks. This time it is all nickels and dimes.

There are 2 times as many dimes as nickels and the value of the dimes is $1.65 more than the value of nickles. How many nickels and dimes does Jamil have?
--------------------------------
Equations:
d = 2n
---
10d = 5n+165
---------------------
Substitute for "d" and solve for "n":
10(2n) = 5n+165
20n = 5n+165
15n = 165
n = 11 (# of nickels)
---
Since d = 2n, # of dimes = 22

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1.a rectangular field 70m long and 50m wide has a path of uniform width around it . if the area of the path is 1024 sq.m.find the width of the path
---
Draw the picture of a rectangle inside a rectangle.
---
The area of the inner rectangle is 70*50 = 3500 sq. meters
---
Area of the outer rectangle = (70+2x)(50+2x) = 4X^2 + 240x + 3500
----
Equation:
Outer area - Inner area = 4x^2+ 240x = 1024
x^2+60x-256 = 0
(x-4)(x+64) = 0
---
Positive Solution:
x = 4 meters.
====================

2.The base and height of a triangle are (x+3) and (2x-5)cm respectively if the area of the triangle is 20 sq.cm find x
------------------
Area = (1/2)(base)(height)
20 cm^2 = (1/2)(x+3)(2x-5)
40 = 2x^2+x-15
---
2x^2+x-55 = 0
(x-5)(2x+11) = 0
Positive solution:
x = 5
-----
base = x+3 = 9 cm
height = 2x-5 = 5 cm
=====================
3.The length of a rectangle is 5cm longer than its width and its area is 66 sq.cm find the perimeter of the rectangle.
---
Let width = x
The length = x+5
---
Equation:
x(x+5) = 66
x^2+5x-66 = 0
(x+11)(x-6) = 0
---
Positive Solution:
x = 6 cm
---
Perimeter = 2(width + length)
P = 2(6 + 11)
P = 2(17)
Perimeter = 34 cm
