You can put this solution on YOUR website!A supplier shipped a lot of six parts to a company. The lot contained three defective parts. Suppose the customer decided to randomly select two parts and test them for defects.
How large a sample space is the customer potentially working with?
6C2 = 15
List the sample space.
Use A,B,C for defective
Use a,b,c for the not defective
List the 15 pairs
Aa,Ab,Ac
Ba,Bb,Bc
Ca,Cb,Cc
AA,AB,AC
aa,bb,cc
------------------------------
Using the sample space list, determine the probability that the customer will select a sample with exactly one defect.

P(1 defect) = 9/15

You can put this solution on YOUR website!If you increase the numerator if by 3 and the denominator by 4, the value of the fraction will be doubled. The denominator of the original fraction is 1 more than the numerator. Find the original fraction.
------
Let the original fraction be x/y
----------------------------
Equations:
(x+3)/(y+4) = 2(x/y)
y = x+1
----
Substitute for "y" and solve for "x":
(x+3)/(x+5) = 2(x/(x+1))
----------------------------
Cross-multiply:
(x+3)(x+1) = (x+5)(2x)
---
x^2+4x+3 = 2x^2+10x
x^2+6x-3 = 0
----
x = [-6 +- sqrt(36-4*1*-3)]/2
-----
x = [-6 +- sqrt(48)]/2
-----
x = [-6 +- 4sqrt(3)]/2

x = -3+2sqrt(3)

Solve for "y":
y = x+1
y = -2+2sqrt(3)

expressions/417563: dont understand this problem and solution teacher put on board could you help me understand? I dont get it.
4y=2x-10
2y=2(5+2y)-10
4y=10+4y-10
4y-4y=10-10
0=0

You can put this solution on YOUR website!dont understand this problem and solution teacher put on board could you help me understand? I dont get it.
---------------------------------------------------------
I think you missed a line that was on the board:
x = 5+2y
4y = 2x-10
---
Substituting for "x" you get the following:
-----
4y=2x-10
4y=2(5+2y)-10
4y=10+4y-10
4y-4y=10-10
0=0
----
Conclusion:
The system of equations is true for all values of x.
The two equation are really the same equation.

test/417519: Can you please help me with this math problem? I am having a difficult time with it.
There is a .6 probabilty that an elem tree has Dutch elem disease. An arborist selects 3 elms in the area. Give the sample space that list all of the possible combinations of diseased (D) and not diseased (N) for the 3 trees.
a) what is the probabilty that none of the 3 trees have the Dutch elm disease?
b) what is the probabilty that at lease one of the 3 trees has the Dutch elm disease?
I really appreciate you help with this question. Thank you so much! 1 solutions

----------
Give the sample space that list all of the possible combinations of diseased (D) and not diseased (N) for the 3 trees.
DDD,DDN,DND,NDD,NND,NDN,DNN,NNN
----------------------------------------------
a) what is the probabilty that none of the 3 trees have the Dutch elm disease?
P(NNN) = 1/8
------
b) what is the probabilty that at least one of the 3 trees has the Dutch elm disease?
P(at least one has) = 1 - P(none has) = 1 - (1/8)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!Explain how to tell from a quadratic equation what type of conic section the equation represents without graphing it.
---
Parabola: Either x or y is squared, but not both.
---
Circle: Both x and y are squared and both have the same coefficient
----
Ellipe: Both x and y are squared but the coefficients are same sign
but different.
-----
Hyperbola: Both s and y are squared but the coefficients are not
the same sign.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! You deposited $5000 in a savings account that has a rate of 11÷ The interest is compounded quarterly. How much money you will have after 9 years?
-----
A(t) = P(1+(r/n))^(nt)
-----
A(9) = 5000(1+(0.11)/4)^(4*9)
----
A(9) = 5000(1.0275)^36 = $13277.49
