Length-and-distance/458157: Suppose you are given a box whose interior measures 50 cm by 55 cm and is 30 cm high. What is the maximum number of MAT 115 textbooks you can pack inside the box without folding, cutting or otherwise damaging the books? You must try to visualize the solution and provide clearly written instructions or a detailed drawing to explain how you would place the books in the box.
Hint for Problem Two: You will have to measure the length, width, and depth of your textbook in centimeters (cm). As a group, compare the measurements taken by each person and then agree on one set of measurements to use in your solution.

"Hint for Problem Two: You will have to measure the length, width, and depth of your textbook in centimeters (cm). As a group, compare the measurements taken by each person and then agree on one set of measurements to use in your solution."
---
Book dimensions: measurements length = 26.2 Width = 20.9 cm Depth = 2.2 cm
------------------
Volume of box = 50*55*30 = 82500 cm^3
Volume of each book = 26.2*20.9*2.2 = 1204.676 cm^3
----------------
Max number of books in box <= 68 when rounded down

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the purchasing agent for a transport company is analyzing bids for seat belts from two suppliers A and B.
the difference in the cost per unit from each supplier is $5,
---------------------------
if for $1200 the agent could buy ten more belts from suppliers"A" then from supplier B.
Let number from B be "x": then unit price from B is 1200/x
Number from A is "x+10"; then unit price from A is 1200/(x+10)
-----
Equation:
1200/x - (1200/(x+10) = $5
Multiply thru by x(x+10) and solve for "x":
1200x + 1200*10 - 1200x = 5x(x+10)
5x^2+50x - 12000 = 0
x^2 + 10x - 2400 = 0
x = 44.24
So Unit price from A is 1200/54.24 = $22.12
====================================================
How many belts could he buy from A for $1500
# of belts = 1500/22.12 = 67.8 belts (round which ever way you wish)

Approximately 73% of all marketing personnel are extroverts,
about 69% of all computer programmers are introverts.
------------------------
(a) At a meeting of 15 marketing personnel, what is the probability that 10 or more are extroverts? (Use 3 decimal places.)
Ans: 1- binomcdf(15,0.73,9) = 0.804
========================================
What is the probability that 5 or more are extroverts? (Use 3 decimal places.)
Ans: 1- binomcdf(15,0.73,4) = 0.999
-----------------------------------------
What is the probability that all extroverts? (Use 3 decimal places.)
Ans: (0.73)^15 = 0.009
---------------------------
(b) In a group of 5 computer programmers, what is the probability that none are introverts? (Use 3 decimal places.)
Ans: 0.31^3 = 0.030
---------------------------
What is the probability that 3 or more are introverts? (Use 3 decimal places.)
Ans: 1- binomcdf(5,0.69,2) = 0.823
--------------------------------
What is the probability that all are introverts? (Use 3 decimal places.)
Ans: 0.69^5 = 0.156

Find the variance for the given data. Round your answer to one more decimal place than the original data.
{-2, -2, 11, -7, 3}
1st: Find the mean of the data.
2nd: Subtract the mean from each of the data values.
3rd: Square each of those differences
4th: Divide by n-1 = 5
---
That is the variance:
variance = 46.2

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Find the median for the given sample data.
{18, 5, 8, 9, 15, 18, 8, 18}
----
Put the data in order:
{5,8,8,9,15,18,18,18}
Since there are an even number average the middle 2 data values:
(9+15)/2 = 12
That is the median.

Probability-and-statistics/457855: Please help with this probability question. Needing detail solution steps.
Find the probability.
The table below describes the smoking habits of a group of asthma sufferers.
non smoker light smoker heavy smoker total
men 350 88 82 520
women 334 70 84 488
total 684 158 166 1008
A person is randomly selected. If the person selected is a light smoker, what is the probability that
it is a woman?
A) 0.069 B) 0.143 C) 0.443 D) 0.257

The table below describes the smoking habits of a group of asthma sufferers.
non smoker light smoker heavy smoker total
men 350..... 88...... 82...... 520
women 334..... 70...... 84...... 488
total 684..... 158..... 166..... 1008
A person is randomly selected. If the person selected is a light smoker, what is the probability that it is a woman?
----
This is a conditional probability problem.
P(woman | light smoker)
= [P(woman AND light smoker)]/P(light smoker)]
---
= 70/1008 / 158/1008
= 70/158
= 0.4430
-------------------
Notice: You get the answer faster by simply dividing the
number of light-smoker women by the # of light smokers

Polynomials-and-rational-expressions/457847: How do I reduced this? (x-2)/(x^2-6x+8) Ive seen countles of exercises and videos explaining how to solve it but then I ask myself what happened to 6x and 8? Dont know why the answer is 1/x-4.

reduce this? (x-2)/(x^2-6x+8)
----
If you simplify 6/24 you have to know that 6 is a factor of 24
so you can write the problem as follows:
------
6/24 = 6/(6*4)
---
you can write that as
6/24 = (6/6)*(1/4)
----
You have to know that 6/6 = 1
So you have 6/24 = 1*(1/4) = 1/4
That is called the "simplified form of 6/24
======================
Your Problem:
Simplify (x-2)/(x^2-6x+8)
----
You have to know the factors of x^2-6x+8 = (x-4)(x-2)
---
Then (x-2)/(x^2-6x+8) can be written as [(x-2)/(x-2)]*(1/(x-4))
---
But (x-2)/(x-2) is 1
--
So the simplified form of your problem is 1/(x-4)

Write each conic sectioning standard form. Identify the conic section.
1. 25x^2+9y-225=0
-----
25x^2 = -9y + 225
x^2 = (-9/25)y + 9
(x-0)^2 = (-9/25)(y - 25)
