The index is the root number:
---
The radicand can be negative:
If the index is odd and the radicand is negative the root is negative.
Example: cbrt(-27) = -3

If the root is even and the radicand is negative the root is complex.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-7^2
The negative is excluded from the squaring:
-7^2 = -7*7 = -49
----
(-7)^2
The negative is included in the squaring:
(-7)^2 = (-7)(-7) = +49

a tire is 95" in diamerer, with a 30" hole. What is the probability of throwing a football through the hole
---
Area of the "hole": (pi)15^2
---
Area of the target: (pi)47.5^2
----
P(throw thru hole) = Area of hole/Area of target including tire
---
P(throw thru hole) = 15^2/47.5^2

there are 7 red balls and 8 green balls in a bag what is the probability of pulling out two red balls if the balls are not replaced in the bag?
----
# of ways to select 2 red balls: 7C2 = 21
# of ways to pick 2 balls randomly: 15C2 = 105
---
P(select 2 red) = 21/105 = 7/35 = 1/5

the amount of rice cake mix to be used varies directly with the number of people who partake of this food. suppose that it takes 7 cups of mix to serve 10 people
a.) write the function expressing the number of cups of cake mix in relation to the number of people
----
m = kn
Solve for "k" using "it takes 7 cups of mix to serve 10 people"
7 = k*10
k = 0.7
---
Equation:
mix = 0.7*people
======================
b.) how many cups of cake mix must be prepared for ? people
Ans: 0.7*(? people)
======================
c.)about how many people can be served with 12 cups of cake mix
12 = 0.7*n
n = 12/0.7
n = about 17
