Ans = P(even <= 10 AND not heart)/P(not heart)

Ans = P(5 and a face card)/P(face card) = (0/52)/(12/52) = 0

Probability-and-statistics/492974: The U.S. Department of Transportation requires tire manufacturers to provide tire performance information on the sidewall of the tire so that a prospective customer can be better informed when making a purchasing decision. One very important measure of tire performance is the tread wear index, which indicates the tire's resistance to tread wear compared with a tire graded with a base of 100. This means that a tire with a grade of 200 should last twice as long, on average, as a tire graded with a base of 100. Suppose that a consumer organization wants to estimate the actual tread wear index of a brand name of tires graded 200 that are produced by a certain manufacturer. A random sample of 18 of these tires produced a sample mean tread wear index of 195.3 and a sample standard deviation of 21.4. Assuming that the population of tread wear indices is normally distributed, compute a 95% confidence interval estimate for the population mean tread wear index for tires produced by this manufacturer under this brand name. Permutations/492769: Suppose that there is a large group of people, consisting of exactly 2N women and 2N men. The group is split in half at random. What is the probability that each half contains exactly N women and N men?
And the second part asks for a given N, set up Stirling's Formula so you can calculate the approx value for a given N.
I am having trouble thinking how to set up this problem. I know as N gets bigger, the possible combinations increase....I'm thinking 2^n.
I also know that the order does not matter, but with each selection you are taking removing someone from the pool of 4N people.

----
I don't like the answer I gave you.
----
Question: If the 4N people are split in half
how many split-pairs could there be.
---
We would have to have 2N in each half
--
How many ways can we get a group of 2N people
from a group of 4N people?
That should be (4N)C(2N) = (4N)!/[(4N-2N)!*(2N)!]
= [(4N)(4N-1)...(2N+1)]/[1*2*...(2N)]
---------
Only one of those sets has N women and N men.
----
The probability of there being N women and N men in
each of the halfs would be (1*2*...(2N))/[(4N)(4N-1)...(2N+1)]
------------------
As far as Stirling is concerned I don't know
anything about that.

----
|2x-1| = 2x-1 if x >= 1/2
|2x-1| is 1-2x if x < 1/2
-----
Consider x< 1/2 to get:
(x-3)/2 -3(1-2x) = -5/3
x-3 - 6(1-2x) = -10/3
x-3-6+12x = -10/3
13x = -10/3+9 = 17/3
x = 17/39
But 17/39 is not less than 1/2 so no solution in the interval x < 1/2
------------------------
Consider x >= 1/2
(x-3)/2 - 3(2x-1) = -5/3

Multiply thru by 6:
3(x-3) - 18(2x-1) = -10
3x-9 -36x+18 = -10
-33x = -19
x = 19/33 which is > 1/2

That is the solution.

2x - (1/3)y = -4
Multiply thru by 3 to get:
----
6x - y = -12
That is the standard form:
A = 6
B = -1
C = -12

Rectangles/492730: find the perimeter of a rectangular object which has a width of x+4 and a height of x 1 solutions
Answer 335167 by stanbon(57203) on 2011-09-07 07:01:53 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!find the perimeter of a rectangular object which has a width of x+4 and a height of x
---
Perimeter = 2(length + height)
P = 2(x + x+4)
P = 2(2x+4)
P = 4x+8

Probability-and-statistics/492579: A magazine article cited the numbers on household income in Berea, KY as given by the U.S. Census Bureau. Was a sample or the population used?
Will someone help me please? I don't understand. 1 solutions

-----
Although the Census attempts to collect data from every individual family
unit it does not succeed in doing it. Still a Census is considered as having
provided parameters of a population.
---
Congress refuses to authorize random sampling because the Founding
Fathers did not state that in the Constitution. Oh Well!

Probability-and-statistics/492307: A 90% confidence interval estimate for a population mean was computed to be (49.3, 67.9). Determine the mean of the sample, which was used to determine the interval estimate (show all work). 1 solutions

You can put this solution on YOUR website!A 90% confidence interval estimate for a population mean was computed to be (49.3, 67.9). Determine the mean of the sample, which was used to determine the interval estimate
---------------------
The sample mean is the average of the confidence interval limits:
x-bar = (67.9+49.3)/2 = 58.6

You can put this solution on YOUR website! if you roll two number cubes. about how many times can you expect the product of the numbers to be a multiple of 5?
--------
Multiples of 5 when you roll 2 dice: 1/4;2/3;3/2;4/1;4/6;5/5;6/4
---
Ans: 7 of 36 outcomes are multiples of 5

Probability-and-statistics/492311: A confidence interval estimate for the population mean is given to be (45.37, 53.91). If the standard deviation is 12.604 and the sample size is 58, answer each of the following (show all work):
(A) Determine the maximum error of the estimate, E.
(B) Determine the confidence level used for the given confidence interval.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!A confidence interval estimate for the population mean is given to be (45.37, 53.91). If the standard deviation is 12.604 and the sample size is 58, answer each of the following (show all work):
(A) Determine the maximum error of the estimate, E.
The width of the confidence interval is ALWAYS 2E
2E = (53.9-45.37)
2E = 8.53
E = 4.265
---------------------
(B) Determine the confidence level used for the given confidence interval.
ME = z*s/sqrt(n)
---
4.265 = z*12.604/sqrt(58)
12.604*z = 4.265*sqrt(58)
z = 2.5771
---
Find the right tail for z = 2.5771
normalcdf(2.5771,100) = 0.005
---
The confidence level = 2*0.005 = 1%
