You can put this solution on YOUR website!Two cars travel toward each other at constant velocities. One is going 12 m/s, and the other 18 m/s. They are 3000m apart when we first see them.
-------------
Their closing rate is (10+18)m/s = 28 m/s
----
time = distance/rate
--
time = 3000m/28 = 107.17 seconds
The trains will meet in 107.17 sec

decimal-numbers/495138: Hi.
My son is learning 'powers'. So he takes the number 1,000 and
writes it out with powers. (one times 10 to the third power plus one times ten to the second power etc).
Question How are fractions represented using powers? For instance 1234.56, how would you represent the .56 as power (is it 5 times 10 to the .1 power plus 6 times ten to the .01 power)?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!I need to graph -1/4 and y-intercept (0,-2) y = -1/4x - 2
----
I think this is what you want:
Put your pencil at (0,-2) on the y-axis.
-----
Comment: slope = -1/4 means "as x increases 4, y decreases by 1".
----
Move your pencil 4 to the right (0,+2); then move you pencil down 1
to (-1,+2)---put a point at (-1,+2)
---
Draw a line thru (0,-2) (-1,2)
That is the graph you want.

a, what is the probability that a loaf is btwn 22.75 and 23.00?
z(22.75) = (22.75-22)/0.5 = 0.75/0.5 = 1.5
z(23) = (23-22)/0.5 = 2

P(22.75 < x < 2300) = P(1.5 < z < 2) = 0.0441

Find the z-value with a left tail of 5%:

C, assuming 200 loaves are baked on a given day, how many of these will weigh more than 23 ounces?
z(23) = 2
P(x > 23) = P(z > 2) = 0.0228
Expected # above 23 = 0.0228*200 = 4.55 loaves

Probability-and-statistics/494820: ) A bag contains 4 white and 5 black balls. One ball is drawn from the bag and is not replaced, when the second ball is drawn. Find the probability that both balls of the drawing are white. 1 solutions

You can put this solution on YOUR website!A bag contains 4 white and 5 black balls. One ball is drawn from the bag and is not replaced, when the second ball is drawn. Find the probability that both balls of the drawing are white.
-----
P(white AND white) = P(white)*P(white|white) = (4/9)*(3/8) = 1/6

Probability-and-statistics/494801: I'm struggling to calculate this, stats is one of my subjects (long distance learning), but do not understand it. Could you please show me how to calculate the following:
A normal population has a mean of 75 and a standard deviation of 5. A sample of size 40 has been randomly selected. The probability that the sample mean is less than 74 is equal to:
1. 0.4207
2. 0.0020
3. 0.1038
4. 0.0548
5. 0.5793 1 solutions

You can put this solution on YOUR website!A normal population has a mean of 75 and a standard deviation of 5. A sample of size 40 has been randomly selected. The probability that the sample mean is less than 74 is equal to:
------------
t(74) = (74-75)/[5/sqrt(40)] = -1.2649
---
P(x-bar < 74) = P(t < -1.2649 when df = 39) = 0.1067
===========================
If you use the z-distribution you would get:
P(x-bar < 74) = P(z <-1.2649) = 0.1030
