If a number cannot be represented by the quotient of two integers, then the number is Irrational. The number isn't insane, but it cannot be represented as a ratio.

If a number can be represented by the ratio of two integers, the number is Rational.

The positive and negative whole numbers are the Integers.

Non-negative whole numbers are the Natural numbers. (Actually, there are varying opinions on the exact definition of the set of Whole Numbers and the set of Natural numbers. Whole Numbers could mean Natural Numbers in the sense of positive integers, i.e. . Or Whole Numbers could mean Natural Numbers in the sense of non-negative integers, i.e. . Or Whole Numbers could be used to mean the entire set of Integers, i.e. )

Note that Natural numbers are a proper subset of the Integers which, in turn, is a proper subset of the Rationals.

45,368 is Natural, Whole, Integer, AND Rational.

-8 is Whole (maybe), Integer, and Rational

All fractions and explicitly stated decimals, even those that repeat forever, are Rational.

Everything else is Irational.

Any number that is the root of a non-zero polynomial function with rational coefficients is an Algebraic number. Any other number is a Trancendental number. Only one of the numbers in your list is Trancendental. Can you find it?

Drive a stake into the ground at one corner. Tie a string to the stake. Go to the diagonally opposite corner and drive another stake into the ground. Tie the other end of your string to the second stake, making the string nice and taut.

Repeat the process for the other two corners of your rectangle.

The point where the two strings cross is the center.

Use the two-point form of an equation of a line.

where and are the coordinates of the given points.

Once you have substituted values and done the indicated arithmetic, solve for . That is to say arrange your equation into (Slope-Intercept) form.

The equation represents a vertical line consisting of all ordered pairs where the coordinate is equal to 1. A line perpendicular to a vertical line is a horizontal line. Horizontal lines have the characteristic that the coordinates of every ordered pair contained in the set of ordered pairs that is the vertical line are identical. Since the desired perpendicular must pass through the point , that coordinate must be 3.

You have described a collection of marbles that total 16. Then you say 2 green and 3 white. If you mean that 2 of the 16 marbles are green, 3 of them are white, and 11 of them are some other color, then what is the without replacement draw for which you want to calculate the probability?

On the other hand, if you want the probability of drawing 2 green and 3 white from a collection of 16 without replacement, then you need to describe the numbers of the various colors that make up the 16 in the container.

And do take the time to proofread your post before sending it. We only have the written word with which to communicate, hence the niceties of spelling, grammar, and punctuation are essential for this system to work.

Factor. Hint: 6 times 10 = 60 and 6 plus 10 = 16.

Apply the Zero Product Rule to find the two solutions. Since the quadratic factors over the rationals, the roots are rational and exact. That is, there is no need for a numerical approximation for a solution set element that can be represented exactly numerically.

Divide 1320 by the given height. That will give you the area of the base. You misused "base" since that would refer to the entire rectangle that has a length and a width. I'm going to presume that you meant length is 5 inches longer than the width.

Let represent the width. Then represents the length. And let represent the area you calculated in the first step. Then:

If you mean that the overall area of both the rectangle and the surmounting semi-circle is supposed to be 4 ft², then this is mighty weird looking stained glass window. Since you didn't provide a dimension for the diameter of the semicircle, I have to assume that it is the same as the width of the rectangle. I'm also assuming that is the missing dimension of the rectangle since it cannot possibly be the overall height of the window. The area of a semicircle with a diameter of 3 feet and therefore a radius of 1.5 feet is . That means only of the given area remains for the rectangle. Divided by 3, that leaves a height of less than feet for the rectangle part of the window -- not even 2 inches. Standing back, you probably wouldn't notice that there was a rectanglual part of the window.

Re-read the instructions for posting on this site, especially the instruction that says "One question per post." What is NOT going to happen is for someone to do your whole homework assignment, or worse, your test, for you.

Here are a couple of rules to help you though. Rational zeros of a polynomial function, if they exist, must be of the form where is an integer factor of the constant term and is an integer factor of the lead coefficient.

A polynomial function of degree has exactly zeros, some of which may be complex. Complex zeros ALWAYS show up as conjugate pairs, that is, if is a zero, then must also be a zero.

A corollary to the above is that polynomial functions of odd degree must have at least one real zero.

Using the first rule I gave you, you can use either polynomial long division or synthetic division to determine if a potential rational zero is actually a zero of the given polynomial. The quotient of a successful division that identifies a zero can be couched as a lesser degree polynomial funcition. Continue the process until you cannot find any more rational roots or you end up with a quadratic quotient that you can solve with the quadratic formula. In fact, if you get down to a quartic or a cubic, there are general formulas for these too, but you don't have any where you will need to go to those lengths.

If you are a little rusty on your poly long division or synthetic division, check out:
