That would violate the triangle inequality. The sum of the measures of any two sides of a triangle must be strictly greater than the measure of the third side. If the perimeter is 12 and one side is 7, that only leaves 5 for the sum of the remaining sides and since 5 is not strictly greater than 7, 7 is not a possible measure of any side of a triangle with a perimeter of 12.

  1  -1   0   7
  0   1  -1  -3
  1   0   1   4

-R1 + R3 -> R3

  1  -1   0   7
  0   1  -1  -3
  0   1   1  -3

-R2 + R3 -> R3

  1  -1   0   7

R3/2 -> R3

R3 + R2 -> R2

R2 + R1 -> R1

  1   0   0   4

x = 4; y = -3; z = 0

Substitute the x and y coordinates from each of the given points into the given inequality. Do the indicated arithmetic. If the result is a true statement then the point is an element of the solution set. Otherwise not.

Why do you think it is answer D?

Step 1: Change the relationship symbol to "=". Graph the resulting line. If the original relationship symbol was or , do it with a dashed or broken line. If your symbol was or , graph the equation with a solid line.

Step 2: Pick any point on the coordinate plane that does not lie on the line you just graphed. If the line does not pass through the origin, then the origin is an excellent choice for this step. If the line does pass through the origin, select a point other than the origin -- I recommend a point that has small integer coordinates.

Step 3: Substitute the values of the coordinates of the point chosen in Step 2 for the corresponding variables in the inequality you started with in Step 1.

Step 4: Do the appropriate arithmetic to determine whether the substitution created a true statement or not. If you created a true statement, shade in the side of the line containing the point selected in Step 2. If you created a false statement, shade in the side of the line that does not contain the selected point.

Use the slope formula to calculate the slope of the diagonals., EG and FH. . If the two slopes are negative reciprocals, then the figure is either a rhombus or a square. If not, then since rectangle is the only other choice, it must be a rectangle.

If it is a rhombus or a square, use the distance formula:

to find the measure of each of the diagonals. If they are equal, you have a square (and a rectangle actually -- ALL squares are rectangles), but if they are different it is a rhombus.

Unfortunately, you are on a different planet than Earth. On your planet the gravity is twice as strong as on Earth, and not only that, it is gravitational repulsion rather than attraction. So if you fire your bullet into the air, it will never stop until it reaches another celestial body that has gravity that works in the normal way.

On earth, the height function is

where the acceleration due to gravity, , is feet per second per second. Using your values of 644 feet per second for intial velocity and zero for initial height (damn short gun!), your function would look like:

You should recognize this as a quadratic function where the graph is a parabola opening downward. The vertex is therefore a maximum. Use the formula for the abscissa of the vertex:

Once you have performed that calculation and determined the time at which the height is maximum, evaluate your function at that value:

Once you have finished your calculations and have returned to Earth, write back and I'll check your work for you.

Since de and fe are the equal sides of the isosceles triangle, angles d and f must be equal in measure. Since the sum of the interior angles of any triangle is 180 degrees, there can only be one angle greater than or equal to 90 degrees in any triangle. Since the measures of angles d and f are equal, they must therefore each measure less than 90 degrees. By definition, the exterior angle at vertex f (efg) forms a straight angle with interior angle efd. Hence the sum of efg and efd is 180 degrees. Since efd measures less than 90, efg must measure more than 90. Q.E.D.

Label your equilateral triangle vertices as A, B, and C. Label the intersection of the median from vertex A as D, from vertex B as E, and from vertex C as F.

Since a median connects a vertex with the midpoint of the opposite side, AF = FB, BD = DC, and CE = EA. But since ABC is an equilateral triangle, AB, BC, and CA are all congruent, therefore AF = FB = BD = DC = CE = EA. Then, since ABC is equilateral, it is also by definition equiangular.

Therefore, triangle ABD is congruent to triangle CBF which is in turn congruent to triangle CAF, all by SAS.

Then by CPCT, AD congruent to BE congruent to CF. QED.

Volume is in cubic inches, not square inches. You can't make a box just by cutting the corners out of a square; you have to fold up the sides. Given that, you divide by to determine that the area of the base of the box must be . Since you have cut squares out of the corners of a square, the shape of the base of the manufactured box must also be square. Therefore the measure of each side of the base is . Since there is a square cut out of each corner of the original square, the original dimension has to be greater than the measure of the side of the base of the manufactured box.
