Equations/402201: Problem:
9q + 6p - 7p + q
Book answer:
-p + 10q
My answer:
10q + -p
Not going to school, so I don't know if my answer is correct or not. How would you grade it. 1 solutions
Answer 284519 by sofiyac(695) on 2011-01-31 10:21:35 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Your answer is correct technically BUT
1. It's not correct to write two symbols together like + -. It would simplify to just -.
2. Normally the answer is written with letters in alphabetical order. So p comes BEFORE q, that's why the answer should be -p+10q.

Numbers_Word_Problems/401202: The price of a car is increased by 25%. The new price, after the increase is 250000. Find the following using an equation:
1)The original Price 2)The amount of the increase 1 solutions
Answer 283898 by sofiyac(695) on 2011-01-28 15:47:20 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!percent******number
100***********x
125**********250000
multiply across, they are ratios.
 so this is the original value
Thus the amound of the increase is
increase=250000-200000=50000

Evaluation_Word_Problems/401204: We have 10 people in our group and we would like to set up a system where everyone can talk to everyone else individually for 10 minutes, how can we do this and how long would it take? 1 solutions
Answer 283896 by sofiyac(695) on 2011-01-28 15:44:27 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!you can set up a conference call, everyone talks for 10 minutes each 10*10=100 minutes or 1 hour and 40 minutes. You didn't specify if i talked to you and you talked to me, if that counts as once, i assume so?

Distributive-associative-commutative-properties/401130: 7/3(12/7x)
These are fractions. Use the commutative and associative properties as needed to simplify this expression. 1 solutions
Answer 283892 by sofiyac(695) on 2011-01-28 15:38:56 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Your problem is not copied properly, do you mean to say ??? because that's how you wrote it. I'm assuming you mean The x on top or middle is the same thing, but it's not equivalent to the x being on the bottom. Use proper brackets so that we could see the correct problem.

Points-lines-and-rays/401178: m=-1 and b=-4 1 solutions
Answer 283890 by sofiyac(695) on 2011-01-28 15:34:11 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!You didn't post the question. We're not mind readers.
I'm thinking you need to come up with an equation in slope intercept form for a line that has a slope m=-1 and a y intercept of b=-4 (that's my best guess on what you need?????)
y=mx+b plug in your values
y=-1x-4
y=-x-4 this is would be the equation

Problems-with-consecutive-odd-even-integers/401199: The sum of three integers is 52. The second integer is 3 more than the first. The third integer is 1 more than twice the first. What are the integers? 1 solutions
Answer 283888 by sofiyac(695) on 2011-01-28 15:32:10 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!let the first integer be x
then the second will be x+3
then the third one will be 2x+1
Now you can add them up and make sum equal to 52
x+x+3+2x+1=52
4x+4=52
4x=48
x=12
so since we named the first one x, then the first one is 12
then the second one is 12+3=15
then the third one is 2*12+1=25

Graphs/401201: x=2y-12 what is the solution
4x-4y=-16 1 solutions
Answer 283886 by sofiyac(695) on 2011-01-28 15:27:55 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!x=2y-12
4x-4y=-16
First one is already solved for x, so where you see x in second equation plug in 2y-12 instead.
4(2y-12)-4y=-16
8y-48-4y=-16
4y-48=-16
4y=32
y=8
now go back up to first equation and wherever you see y plug in 8 instead.
x=2*8-12
x=16-12
x=4
So the solution is (4,8)

Steve buys 20 bottles of Fizzypop. Each bottle contains 250ml. How many litres does he buy? 1 solutions
Answer 283864 by sofiyac(695) on 2011-01-28 13:44:50 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!20*250=5000ml now you need to convert it to liters, there are 1000 ml in 1 liter, you are going from smaller unit to bigger unit which means you divide.
5000/1000=5 liters

Numbers_Word_Problems/401175: Hai sir, pls help me on this, i got stuck on this
Find a number which is greater than one-fifth of itself by 12 1 solutions
Answer 283856 by sofiyac(695) on 2011-01-28 13:27:51 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!let that number be x, then in order to make an equality you would say
 mulitply every term by 5 in order to get rid of the fraction

60=4x
15=x
To check your answer: x is 15, and when you times it by 1/5 you get 3, so 15 is greater than 3 by 12 :)

Travel_Word_Problems/400024: A jar of nickels and dimes contains $5.45. there are 8 more dimes than nickels. how many of each are there?
1 solutions
Answer 283655 by sofiyac(695) on 2011-01-27 16:10:52 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!nickels x
dimes x+8
so value of nickels would be 0.05x and value of dimes would be 0.10(x+8)
then it is true that
0.05x+0.10(x+8)=5.45
0.05x+0.10x+0.80=5.45
0.15x+0.80=5.45
0.15x=4.65
x=31
so there are 31 nickels and 31+8=39 dimes
