Polygons/557916: How do you find the number of diagonals with just knowing the number of sides? 1 solutions
Answer 362827 by scott8148(6628) on 2012-01-16 13:49:18 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!the number of sides is the same as the number of corners (vertices)
diagonals are lines from corner-to-corner, that aren't sides
if there are N corners; you can draw lines from any corner, to N-1 other corners
but, the line from A to B is the same as the line from B to A
___ so the number of lines is {[N(N - 1)] / 2}
N of the lines are sides, so the number of diagonals is ___ {[N(N - 1)] / 2} - N ___ or ___ {[N(N - 3)] / 2}

Quadratic_Equations/557914: What is the the discriminant of 12x^2-x-6=0? I tried working it out and got an a long decimal which rounded to 2, found the square root, i then added (1/6),and divided it by 2, however when i stored x in my calc to check it it didnt = 0, so i know i did something wrong. I think i went wrong with the discriminant but i could have messed up somewhere else. if there is anyway you could show mw how to work it i would be very appreciative!!! 1 solutions

Miscellaneous_Word_Problems/555136: I need help in aiding my daughter with working the following word problem: A fatory manufactures dresses. Every 3rd dress has a blue bow, every 8th dress has a white bow and every 4th dress has a red bow. If 150 dresses come off the line, how many dresses have all three bows on them? I had her take the total dresses over the number of each color bow ie: 150/3 = number or dresses with blue bows, but I can not figure out how to get the number of dresses with all 3 bows. Thank you. 1 solutions
Answer 361657 by scott8148(6628) on 2012-01-10 13:15:22 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!any dress number that is evenly divisible by (has a factor of) 3, will have a blue bow
similarly with 8 and white bows; and 4 and red bows
any dress number that has 3, 8, and 4 as factors; will have all three bows
the smallest number with those factors is 24
150 is divisible by 24, 6 full times ; so there will be 6 dresses with all 3 bows
