squaring ___ (x - 3) + 2 sqrt[(x - 3)(x + 2)] + (x + 2) = 25

2 sqrt(x^2 - x - 6) = 26 - 2x ___ sqrt(x^2 - x - 6) = 13 - x

squaring (again) ___ x^2 - x - 6 = 169 - 26x + x^2

Travel_Word_Problems/348670: Willy is driving south at a constant speed of 65 mph. If his car is 16 feet long and it takes him 7 seconds to pass a 70 foot tractor-trailer truck, how fast is the truck traveling?

Answer 249342 by scott8148(6628) About Me  on 2010-09-27 16:35:51 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Willy travels (relative to the truck) the length of the truck plus the length of his car in 7 seconds

there are 5280 feet in a mile and 3600 seconds in an hour

so miles/hr equals feet/sec multiplied by 3600/5280

the truck is going SLOWER than Willy by (86 feet/7 sec)
