Travel_Word_Problems/460778: Bob Dansky and Sandy Spears are at opposite ends of a shopping mall 4780.4 feet apart walking towards each other. If Barb walks
1.5 feet per second and Sandy walks 2.2 feet per second, how long will it be before they meet? 1 solutions
Answer 316106 by rwm(914) on 2011-06-14 07:54:24 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!since they are walking towards each other we can add their speeds together
1.5 +2.2=3.7
they need to go 4780.4 feet
4780.4/3.7 will give us the number of seconds
1292 seconds
21.53 minutes
21 8/15=21min 32 seconds

Travel_Word_Problems/460776: Two trains in New York start at the same station going in the same direction on sets of parallel tracks. The local train stops often and
averages 18.4 miles per hour. The express train stops less frequently and averages 30.2 mph. In how many hrs. will the two trains be 5.9
miles apart? 1 solutions
Answer 316104 by rwm(914) on 2011-06-14 07:48:16 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Since they are going in the same direction we can find out how fast the one gains on the other by subtracting.
+30.2
-18.4
+11.8 mph
so they'll be 5.9 miles apart in half an hour.

I need this to design a quilt - this is an equation I need quite often and I'd rather make my quilt pieces the size I want them rather than buy a pattern and live with whatever the designer wanted.

Graphs/460826: I'm 46 and "trying" to refresh my algebra. Any help is appreciated.
How do I solve AND graph?
Solve the conjunction -2 < = a+3 < 8
Thanks

Answer 316095 by rwm(914) on 2011-06-14 06:27:25 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!-2 < = a+3 < 8
subtract 3
-5 < = a < 5
There is something quirky about < and >
You have to leave a space before and after each symbol or the rest disappears.

Answer 314894 by rwm(914) on 2011-06-08 21:44:10 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Not enough info.
Depends on what value is put on the final and how much the class work is worth.
The final could be worth 50 % or 90%
You have an 81% in the class what is the lowest grade you could earn on the final and still keep your 81% in the class?
The writer says:
well the final is worth 15% of your grade hw is worth 30% quizes are worth 15% and tests 40%
Assuming that you mean that you have 81% average on hw, quizzes and tests.
.30*81+.15*81+.4*81+.15f=81
f=81
To keep 81 you will need at least 81 on the final.
