1 solutions

Answer 70882 by roseyposey(9) About Me  on 2007-09-11 04:58:22 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Rod is 72
One piece is x
Another piece is x+6
Problem:
x+(x+6) = 72
2x+6=72
2x+6(-6) = 72(-6)
2x=66
2x/2 = 66/2
x=33
Check the Solution!
x+(x+6)=72
33+(33+6)=72
33+39=72
72=72
TRUE
One piece is x, or 33.
Another piece is x+6, or 33+6=39.
Solution:
One piece is 33-inches and the second piece is 39-inches.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Rent = x
Security deposit = %281%2F2%29x
x%2B%281%2F2%29x=1725
1%281%2F2%29x=1725
%283%2F2%29x=1725
%282%29%283%2F2%29x=%282%291725
3x=3450
3x%2F3=3450%2F3
x=1150
Check the Answer!
1150%2B%281150%2F2%29=1725
1150%2B575=1725
1725=1725
TRUE
The rent is $1150 per month; the security deposit was $575.

Graphs/97307: This question is from textbook
|-4x|=32
1 solutions

Answer 70878 by roseyposey(9) About Me  on 2007-09-11 04:38:31 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
We know that what is between the "|"'s must equal 32. Therefore, the number inside the "|"'s can be either a positive or a negative (32 or -32). This generates two problems.
|-4x|=32 AND |4x|=32
4x=32 AND 4x=-32
Solve for both!
4x%2F4=32%2F4 AND 4x%2F4=-32%2F4
x=8 AND x=-8
x = 8 and -8
