Is there a drawing or diagram or more information?
There is not enough info to know where town c is in relation to town A and B
they could be arranged
C A B or A B C all in a straight line or C could be i mile from A and equidistant A to B and C to B
If you are trying to say that A and B are the legs of a right triangle and c is the hypotenuse you failed.
C could be any side of the triangle.
The hypotenuse will be the longest side of a right triangle.
Very poorly worded problem. Grade of F- to whoever made this problem.

Matrices-and-determiminant/254185: I am trying to find the total Expense.

You almost had it
5.77220% = 3,720.97
% of what?
Let x = what
5.77220%*x = 3,720.97
where x is the total
.0577220*x = 3720.97

Think of it this way
5% of what is 5
5%*x=5 convert percent to decimal
.05*x=5
convert to fraction to see the lesson.
5/100*x=5
multiply both sides by 100
5x=500
x=100
so .05*100=5
5% of 100=5

Most certainly 23^2=529-1=528/22=24-23=1 can't be upheld
23^2 does NOT equal 1

Linear_Equations_And_Systems_Word_Problems/254180: Determine the slope of the tangent to y=1/1-x at the point (2,-1) without constructing a table. Explain what you are doing.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
y=1/(1-x)
You need to get the slope of this line.
Put it in slope intercept format y=mx+b where m is the slope.
Your tangent will be a line perpendicular with a slope -1/m
All they asked for is the slope of the tangent.
Hard to believe but that is all.
You don't even have to find the equation for the tangent line.
The point (2,-1) is extra information which only serves to confuse the problem.
It would be useful for the equation of the tangent.

Carefully with forethought and patience.
You should do the same thing to both sides such as subtract add multiply or dvide
However there are two variables and only one equation. So you can't solve for both x and y but you can only solve for x in terms of y OR y in terms of x.
Are you sure you are suppose to solve it? I suspect that you are to graph it or answer questions about it such as what is the y intercept or what is the slope.

Percentage-and-ratio-word-problems/254153: If x is 40% of y, what percent of 2y is 3x?
1 solutions

Answer 186479 by richwmiller(9135) About Me  on 2010-01-06 11:05:33 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
60% is correct.
Here's why.
we are told that
x=40% of y
x=.4y
What percent of y is x
"what percent of"=40%
40%*y=x
.4y=x
we are asked "what percent of 2y is 3x?"
"what percent of"=a
a*2y=3x
we write that as
3x=a*2y
where a is the percent
3x/2y=a
from the first equation we know that x=.4y
3*.4y/2y=a
y/y=1
.4/2=.2
3*.2=a
.6=a
.6=60%
a=60%
another way to solve it
x=.4y
3x=a*2y
multiply first by 3
3x=1.2*y
3x=a*2y
1.2y=a*2y
divide by y
1.2=2a
.6=a

Linear_Equations_And_Systems_Word_Problems/254168: Suppose you are starting an office-cleaning service. You have spent $315 on equipment. To clean an office, you use $4 worth of supplies. You charge $25 per office. How many offices must you clean to break even?

Answer 186470 by richwmiller(9135) About Me  on 2010-01-06 10:36:31 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
first you need to find out what profit you make on each office cleaned.
charges - expenses=earnings
then you need to find out how many offices it will take you to earn $315
earnings *x=315
or
315/earnings=x
solve for x number offices to clean
if x is not a whole number (counting number) then raise it to the next whole number.
They won't pay you for cleaning part of an office.

let y = amount of 20% solution
+.2*y
results (=) in a 16% acid solution.

total solution 12+y
Put it all together
.08*12+.2*y=.16*(12+y)
solve for y

Rational-functions/254161: can yo show me how to graph the equation using the slope and y intercept:
y = 7/4x + 3
1 solutions

the slope is 7/4 which means for every 7 that y changes x changes 4
3 is the y intercept which is y when x=0
plot (0,3)
Then go up 7 for y and over 4 for x and that is your next point to plot on the graph.
You only need two points for a line(linear equation).

when a problem asks for a "percent of" it means multiply.

Graphs/254140: How do you find the slop of the linear equation given here... x + y = 5

slop is what you feed to pigs.
I believe you mean slope ( slant)
the slope form of the linear equation is y=mx+b where m is the slope.
so put your equation in that format.
y=-x+5
m is-1
that means that it slants down from left to right
Solved by pluggable solver: DESCRIBE a linear EQUATION: slope, intercepts, etc
Equation 1+x+%2B+1+y+=+5 describes a sloping line. For any
equation ax+by+c = 0, slope is -a%2Fb+=+-1%2F1.
  • X intercept is found by setting y to 0: ax+by=c becomes ax=c. that means that x = c/a. 5/1 = 5.
  • Y intercept is found by setting x to 0: the equation becomes by=c, and therefore y = c/b. Y intercept is 5/1 = 5.
  • Slope is -1/1 = -1.
  • Equation in slope-intercept form: y=-1*x+5.

I like palanisamy's work and answer but the answers don't meet the criteria
The problem states that patricia works 2 hours faster than Tanesha
palanisamy has Patricia done in less than 2 hours but tanesha takes 8 hours
