Quadratic_Equations/296677: 6x^+11x-10

1 solutions

Answer 213733 by richwmiller(9143) About Me  on 2010-04-26 11:24:28 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
There are many difficulties with your problems.
1- You are not using the exponent symbol correctly.
....2^3 means 2 raised to the third power.
.....^ cannot be used without the power bas in 6x^+11x-10
2- They are not equations. Use the right category.
3- you give no instructions.
4- You are limited to one problem at a time
5- No similar nor identical problems
6- No more than 4 problems a day.
This website is meant to help you with your homework not to do it all for you.

I'll get you started.
Since all complex roots come in plus minus pairs, answer b is out
To solve the equation, substitute u for b^2
b^4 + 2b^2 - 24 = 0
u^2+2u-24=0
(u-4)*(u+6)=0
now plug b^2 back in for u
(b^2-4)*(b^+6)=0
(b-2)*(b+2)*(b^2+6)=0
solve for b
so b = +-2
answer d is out
b^2=-6
so answer a is out
so it must be answer c

Miscellaneous_Word_Problems/296654: I got an answer for this but struggling to understnad it it doesnt make complete sense to me, any help would be appreciated.

Phil is making a Starbuck’s ® run for his exhausted Math 105 classes. He is going to buy a combination of Lattes and Cappuccinos. The Lattes cost $4 each and the Cappuccinos cost $3 each. If he needs 30 drinks total and has $100 to spend, how many of each should he buy?

my answer is
1 + c = 30
41 +3c =100
c=20 L=10
I am just unsure if this is correct doesnt seem to make alot of sense to me. Any help in explaining why this is right would be a help to me.

Did you actually do the work or did you get it from somewhere else?

Polynomials-and-rational-expressions/296641: Which describes the number and type of roots of the equation x^2 + 121x = 0
a) 1 real root, two imaginary roots
b) 2 real roots. 1 imaginary roots
c) 3 real roots
d) 3 imaginary roots

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This quadratic equation has 2 real roots 0 and -121
Imaginary roots always come in pairs.
So b and d are out
I have already shown two real roots so a is out
The only possible answer among the choices is c
but a quadratic (x^2) can have a maximum of 2 roots.
So none of the choices are correct. There must be a misprint in the choices or the problem.
Solved by pluggable solver: SOLVE quadratic equation with variable
Quadratic equation ax%5E2%2Bbx%2Bc=0 (in our case 1x%5E2%2B121x%2B0+=+0) has the following solutons:

x%5B12%5D+=+%28b%2B-sqrt%28+b%5E2-4ac+%29%29%2F2%5Ca

For these solutions to exist, the discriminant b%5E2-4ac should not be a negative number.

First, we need to compute the discriminant b%5E2-4ac: b%5E2-4ac=%28121%29%5E2-4%2A1%2A0=14641.

Discriminant d=14641 is greater than zero. That means that there are two solutions: +x%5B12%5D+=+%28-121%2B-sqrt%28+14641+%29%29%2F2%5Ca.

x%5B1%5D+=+%28-%28121%29%2Bsqrt%28+14641+%29%29%2F2%5C1+=+0
x%5B2%5D+=+%28-%28121%29-sqrt%28+14641+%29%29%2F2%5C1+=+-121

Quadratic expression 1x%5E2%2B121x%2B0 can be factored:
1x%5E2%2B121x%2B0+=+1%28x-0%29%2A%28x--121%29
Again, the answer is: 0, -121. Here's your graph:
graph%28+500%2C+500%2C+-10%2C+10%2C+-20%2C+20%2C+1%2Ax%5E2%2B121%2Ax%2B0+%29

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If the linear equations are in slope intercept form you can compare the m(slopes).
If the linear equations are in standard form you can see -a/b are the slopes and compare.
If the slopes are equal the lines are parallel.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
17x+17(x+1)=85
17*(2x+1)=85
2x+1=5
2x=4
x=2
17*2+17*3=85
34+51=85

2) offering a car for $75pw including 150km for free & then 15c per km
c=100+.11*(k-100)
c=75+.15*(k-150)
set them equal and solve for k
k=912.5 km
It will cost 189.375 for each
