The shorter leg is 6sqrt(3)=10.39
The longer leg is 6*sqrt(3)*sqrt(3)=18
In a 30 60 90 right triangle the hypotenuse is 2x the shorter leg 1x and the longer leg is sqrt(3)*x

Distributive-associative-commutative-properties/297349: can you show the steps of solving this problem by cross multiplying (7-2n)/(7+2n)=1/18
1 solutions

Answer 214138 by richwmiller(9143) About Me  on 2010-04-27 16:22:27 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This is one reason that many teachers don't like "cross multiplying"
Cross multiplying is a short cut to this
Multiply both sides by 7+2n
Multiply both sides by 18
In cross multiplying you just remove the denominators and multiply the opposite numerator by the denominator
a/b=c/d
multiply c*b and a*d
Multiply the numerator on one side by the denominator on the other side.
Do it again with the other side.
So in the end you should have
(7-2n)*18 = 1*(7+2n)

Quadratic_Equations/297348: How do you find the min, max, vertex, and axix of symmetry for a quadratic equations?
1 solutions

Answer 214130 by richwmiller(9143) About Me  on 2010-04-27 16:15:53 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Axis of symmetry is -2b/a
It is also the x of the vertex
So if you have the x you can find the y of the vertex
The y will be the max or the min.

help please? Much appreciated. I have the triangle drawn but am lost as to how to solve it using sine, cosine, and tangent functions. thanks again!
1 solutions

Answer 214123 by richwmiller(9143) About Me  on 2010-04-27 16:02:37 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The rafters form a triangle with the base angles 36 and the peak angle 180-72=108
If we drop a line from the peak angle to the middle of the house that is at 16 feet
We have a right triangle with one leg 16.
We have angles 36 90 and 54
the hypotenuse will be the length of the roof from the peak to the 36 degree angle.
so we have the base as 16 and the hypotenuse
we have hypotenuse and adjacent (16) and angle 36
After you calculate the rising rafter, be sure to add 2 feet.
