You can put this solution on YOUR website!2e+2.5c=178.5
e+30=c
2e+2.5(e+30)=178.5
2e+2.5e+2.5*30=178.5
4.5e+75=178.5
4.5e=103.5
e=103.5/4.5
e=23
c=53
check
46+2.5*53=178.5
2.5*53=132.5
106+26.5=132.5

Quadratic_Equations/518209: A swimming pool 6m wide and 10m long is to be surrounded by a cement path of uniform width. The area of the walk is equal to the area of the pool. What is the width of the path? 1 solutions
Answer 345092 by richwmiller(9143) on 2011-10-19 22:36:39 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!area of the pool is 60 m^2
area of the walk is 60 m^2
(6+x)*(10+x)=120
x^2+16x+60 = 120
solve for x
unfortunately the x's are not integers.
x=3.13553

Polynomials-and-rational-expressions/518050: Is this equation correct: (xy)³ = xy³ ? Explain why. If it is correct, how can you prove this? If it is incorrect, what should be done to make it right? 1 solutions
Answer 345023 by richwmiller(9143) on 2011-10-19 19:11:08 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!It depends on the value of x and y.
In general, the left side will not equal to the right side.
left side says to multiply x and y and then cube it.
right side says to cube y and then multiply by x
take some examples
let x=2 and y=3
6^3=
6*36=2*3^3
6*36=2*3*3*3
6*36=6*9
which is obviously not true.
to make it correct you must make the left side equal the right side.

Geometry_Word_Problems/517791: A rectangular swimming pool 10 feet by 28 feet is surrounded by a concrete walkway of uniform width of X feet. If the area of the walkway is 864 square feet, find the width of the walkway. 1 solutions
Answer 344923 by richwmiller(9143) on 2011-10-19 12:41:49 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!The pool has an area of 280 sq ft.
(10+x)*(28+x)=280+864=1144
(10+x)*(28+x)=1144
x^2+38x+280 = 1144
x^2+38x-864 = 0
x=-54, x=16
walkway is 16 ft wide
check
26*44=1144
ok

Painter A paints a house in 3 days
Painter B paints a house in 5 days
How long would it take if they painted together?
So I know it takes B 2 more days than A so is it something like B+2=?? or 1/3+1/5=X 1 solutions
Answer 344788 by richwmiller(9143) on 2011-10-18 20:59:40 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!close
We know it has to be less than 3 days since painter a can do it alone in three days.
x/3+x/5=1
Why 1?
One is the whole job.
In one day painter a does 1/3 of the job and painter b does 1/5 of the job.
In x days painter a does x/3 and painter b does x/5 of the job.
5x+3x=15
8x=15
x=15/8
x=1 7/8 days
Assuming a work day is 8 hours, it will take 15 hours together.

Linear-equations/517450: (2,3) and (0,-7} equation y= How do I solve this problem? 1 solutions
Answer 344779 by richwmiller(9143) on 2011-10-18 20:41:17 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!There is no problem.
You didn't say what (2,3) and (0,-7) are.
There is no question.
Perhaps, you want to ask for the equation of a line going through two points (2,3) and (0,-7).
But you didn't.
