Proportions/224076: Hi, I am really confused with my homework and my teacher won't help me so... My quesions is about of course Proportions and Dimensional Analysis. I sort of understand the proportions, but not the other one. Three of my problems are:
a.) 50 meters per second to kilometers per hour.
b.) 0.025 day to seconds. (Now this one I really don't understand)
c.) 1200 ounces to tons (16 oz=1 lb; 2000 lb=1 ton).
And here is one problem for a proportion question:
0.926 meter/1 yard = 20 meters/x yards. 1 solutions
Answer 167403 by rfer(12666) on 2009-10-08 23:10:23 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!a)
50m per sec = km per hr
360 sec per hr
50*360=18000 m per hr=18km per hr
b)
what part of a day is 2.5% in seconds
24 hrs per day times 360 seconds per hr=8640sec per day
8640*.025=216 seconds
c)
1200/16=75 lbs
75/2000=.0375 tons
d)
0.926/1=20/x
cross multiply
0.926x=20
x=21.6 yds

Travel_Word_Problems/223941: Hello,
I do not know how to answer word problems involving trains traveling at a certain rate of speed, thus wondering when they will meet. See below:
Train A and B are traveling together on a parallel track. Train A is traveling at 60 mph and Train B is traveling at 80 mph. Train A passes the train station at 2:20 pm. If Train B passes the station at 2:35 pm at what time will Train B catch up with Train A?
I know the following equations will help but i dont know how to incorporate them:
d=rt
d=ST
S=D/T
T=D/S
??? Thanks 1 solutions

Signed-numbers/223844: so i have this test tomorrow and i do not understand how to determine what r equals.PLEASE HELP ME!
so the question says determine the value of r so that the line passes through each pair of points has the given slope.
(r,4)(7,1)with m=3/4.
step by step how do i solve this?? 1 solutions
Answer 167291 by rfer(12666) on 2009-10-08 17:08:17 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!here goes.
plot (7,1) then use the slope to find the next point
from (7,1) go four to the right and three up to(11,4)
slope=m=3/4
rise over run
Does that help?
