Answer 245332 by mananth(12270) About Me  on 2010-09-13 23:42:05 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I take 9 minutes
so 1/9 of the job I do in 1 minute
..
my friend takes 12 minutes
he tdoes 1/12 of the job in 1 minute
..
Together they can do 1/9+1/12 of the job in 1 minute
LCD 36
(4+3)/36
7/36 of the job they do in 1 minute
so they take 36/7 minutes to clean the car together
5.14 hours
7 cars they take 7*5.14 = 35.98 minutes

Travel_Word_Problems/342770: A boy can row a boat at a constant rate of 7 mi/hr in still water, as indicated in the figure. He rows up-stream for 18 minutes and then rows downstream, returning to his starting point in another 16 minutes. Find the rate of the current
1 solutions

Answer 245323 by mananth(12270) About Me  on 2010-09-13 23:20:52 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let rate of current be x mph
still water speed = 7mph
..
upstream speed = 7-x mph
down stream speed = 7+x mph
...
time upstream = 18 minutes = 18/60 = 3/10 hours
downstream speed = 16 minutes = 16/60 = 4/15 hours
..
Distance = time * speed
distance upstream = (7-x)*3/10 miles
distance downstream = (7+x)*4/15 miles
..
But distance is same
(7-x)*3/10 = (7+x)*4/15 miles
(7-x)*3*15=(7+x)*4*10
315-45x=280+40x
315-80=40x+45x
35=85x
x=35/85
speed of current = 0.411 mph
..

/35
x=140/35
x=4 quarters
dimes = x+6 =10

2x^2+6x+10x+30-2x^2-x=90
15x+30=90
-30
15x+30-30=90-30
15x=60
x=4 feet
New width = x+5 = 9 feet

let the number of miles be x
TOM
0.3x++10
JOE
0.5x+6

0.3x+10=0.5x+6
-0.3x
0.3x-0.3x+10=0.5x-0.3x+6
10=0.2x+6
-6
10-6=0.2x
4=0.2x
x=4/0.2
= 20 miles.
At 20 miles both will cost the same

=1.2075x
1.2075x=90
x=90/1.2075
x $ 74.54
The bill should not be more than $ 74.53

Answer 244935 by mananth(12270) About Me  on 2010-09-12 23:30:51 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5 beans weigh 2.1 g
..
0.454 kg ?
1kg = 1000 grams
0.454kg = 1000 * 0.454 = 454 grams
..
2.1 gram = 5 beans
454 grams = 454 * 5/2.1
= 1081 beans ( rounded off)
