in 12 minutes train A has traveled 1/5*60 =12 miles
..
difference between speeds = 20 mph.
train b catches up 20 mph.
to catch up 12 miles it will take
12/20 = 3/5 hours
3/5 *60 = 36 minutes

Add 36 minutes 2.22
it will catch up at 2.58 pm

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
sowmya takes 6 days less than the no of days taken by Bhagya to complete a piece of work if both sowmya and bhagya together can complete the same work in 4 days in how many days wil bhagya alone complete the work
..
let bhagya take x days
sowmya takes x-6 days
...
bhagya does 1/x of the job in 1 fday
sowmya does 1/(x-6) of the job in 1 day.
..
together they can do 1/x + 1/(x-6) =f the job in 1 day
LCM = x(x-6)
(x-6+x)/x(x-6)
2x-6/x(x-6)
so they takes x(x-6)/2x-6 hours
x^2-6x/(2x-6)=4
x^2-6x=4(2x-6)
x^2-6x=8x-24
x^2-14x+24=0
x^2-12x-2x+24=0
x(x-12)-2(x-12)=0
(x-12)(x-2)=0
x= 12 days taken by bhagya alone

Age_Word_Problems/360618: I need to know how to write this equation in order to find the answer.
If I am 48 and my grandson is 2 years old how old, in years, will I be when I am 3 times his age. I thought that I would just multiply by 3 but the professor said we do not do that to figure out the problem. I thought that maybe I would be 54 and he would be 16 but then it just did not look right. So I tried again and what I got today was I would be 60 and he would b3 4. I am so lost with this problem.

Let me be three times grandson's age after x years
my age now = 48, grandson's age now =2
(48+x) / (2+x) = 3
48+x =3(2+x)
48+x=6+3x
48-6=3x-x
42=2x
x= 21 -------- 21 years later
My age = 48+21= 69
grandson's age = 2+21= 23
