You can put this solution on YOUR website!A RECTANGLE IS 16M BY9M.FIND A SIDE OF THE SQUARE WHOSE AREA EQUALS THE AREA OF THE RECTANGLE. BY HOW MUCH DOES THE PERIMETER OF THE RECTANGLE EXCEED THE PERIMETER OF THE SQUARE.
..
Area of rectangle = 16*9= 144 m^2
..
Area of square = L^2 = 144
L= 12 m
..
Perimeter of rectangle = 2*(L+W) ===>2*(16+9)
Perimeter = 50 m
...
Perimeter of square = 4*L = 48 m
..
Difference = 2 m

You can put this solution on YOUR website!A blimp flies at 60 miles per hour. A round trip of 40 miles into the wind and 40 miles with the wind takes 1.5 hours. What is the speed of the wind?
..
60 miles per hour.
wind speed = w
...
against wind speed = 60-w
with wind speed = 60+w
..
40 miles into the wind
40 miles with the wind takes 1.5 hours.
...
time with wind + time agianst wind = 1.5 hours
..
t=d/r

LCD = (60+w)(60-w)
..
multiply by the LCD
40(60-w)+40(60+w)=1.5(60+w)(60-w)
2400-40w+2400+40w=1.5(3600-w^2)
4800=1.5(3600-w^2)
divide by 1.5
3200=3600-w^2
w^2=3600-3200
w^2=400
w=20 mph ===>speed of wind

Travel_Word_Problems/400456: if you rode your bike from your house 6 miles south , then 6 miles west , then another 10 miles east , how far are you (directly) from your house? 1 solutions
Answer 283536 by mananth(12270) on 2011-01-27 06:16:31 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!you are 6 miles south and 4 miles east from the house
..
Use pythagoras theorem
6 & 4 are the legs
D= hypotenuse
The direct distance D will be sqrt(6^2+4^2)
=sqrt36+16
=sqrt52
=7.2 miles from the house

Linear-equations/400507: Find the slope, if it exists, of the line.
please explain and show me how to do these problems, ty
y= -10 + 7
y=10/3X -5/7 1 solutions
Answer 283534 by mananth(12270) on 2011-01-27 06:08:31 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!y=-10 +7
y=-3
..
this is a line parallel to the x axis. Hence no slope.
...
y=(10/3 )x -5/7
compare this equation with the equation
y= mx+b
compare the co-efficients of x
m = (10/3)

If we pump the water at the same time, how many hours will it take to fill the tank from empty?
...
pump A ----- 40 minutes filling
so it does 1/40 of job in 1 minute,
Pump B ----------- 60 minutes draining
so it does 1/60 of the job in 1 minute.
..
1/40 -1/60 is the job done in 1 minute when both are open
..
(60-40)/2400= 20/2400====> 2/240======> 1/120 of the job
..
so it will take 120 minutes to fill the pool.
