Can someone please help me to understand this problem? Thanks
1. You are planning to spend no more than $10,000 and no less than $8,000 on your landscaping project.
a. Write an inequality that demonstrates how much money you will are willing to spend on the project.
b. For the first phase of the project, imagine you want to cover the backyard with decorative rock and plant some trees. You need 30 tons of rock to cover the area. If each ton costs $80 and each tree is $104, what is the maximum number of trees you can buy with a budget of $3,500? Write an inequality that illustrates the problem and solve. Express your answer as an inequality and explain how you arrived at your answer.
c. Would twelve trees be a solution to the inequality in Part b? Justify your answer.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!8000<=x<=10000
30 tons of rock = $2400
each tree = $104
x trees
104x is the cost
104x+2400<=3500
104x<=1100
x<=1100/104
x<=10.54
You can buy 10 trees

Linear-equations/446448: (-3,4)and (9,12)
Determine the co-ordinates X intercept and y intercept 1 solutions
Answer 307467 by mananth(12270) on 2011-05-08 01:54:19 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!x1 y1 x2 y2
-3 4 9 12
slope m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
(12-4)/(9-(-3))
(8/12)
m=0.67
Plug value of the slope and point (-3,4) in
Y =mx+b
4.00=-2+ b
b=4-2
b=6
So the equation will be
Y =0.67x +6
when x=0 y= 6 ( 0,6),y intercept point
when y=0,-0.67x=6
x=-6/0.67
x=-8.96 (-8.96,0),x intercept point

Answer 307383 by mananth(12270) on 2011-05-07 20:24:15 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!person I 6 days
He does 1/ 6 of the job in 1 day
Person II 3 days
He does 1/ 3 of thejob in 1 day
Person III 2 days
He does 1/2 of the job in 1 day
Together they will do 1/6+ 1/12+ 1/2
Together they will do 3/ 4of the job in one day
So they will take 1 1/3 day

Travel_Word_Problems/446364: Palmer's average running speed is 3 Kilometers per hour faster than his walking speed. If Palmer can run around a 20-Kilometer course in 2 hours, how many hourse would it take her Palmer to walk the same course?
I NEED TO SEE THE WORK ON HOW YOU GOT THE ANSWER!! 1 solutions
Answer 307380 by mananth(12270) on 2011-05-07 20:17:49 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!walking speed =x
running speed = x+3
d=rt
20=(x+3)*2
20=2x+6
20-6=2x
14=2x
x=7 kmph running speed
so walking speed = 4 kmph (7-3)
d=rt
d=20
r=4
20=4*t
20/4=t
t= 5 hours walking time for 20 km

Travel_Word_Problems/446153: A ship leaves Port Canaveral on May 6th @ 1200GMT bound for Gibraltar, a distance of 3822 miles. They expect to average 13.5 kts and give an estimated time of arrival ( ETA ) of May 18th at 0700 GMT. On the 13th their position at 0100 shows they have averaged 14.4 and have 1554 miles left to go, they are ahead of schedule. Due to limitations with the engines they can not slow to less than 10 knots. If they continue to average 14.4kts, When will they be able to slow to 10kts and still arrive at the original ETA of 0700 on the 18th? 1 solutions
Answer 307229 by mananth(12270) on 2011-05-07 01:04:40 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!dep 6th May 1200
Arr 18th may 7.00
Time = 11 days + 19 hours = 283 hours
scheduled speed = 13.5 kts
distance = 3822 miles
..
13th May 0100 hours time elapsed =6 days and 13 hours = 157 hours
To reach on schedule it has 283-157 = 126 hours
Let it travel x kts at 14.4 kts/h
time = x/14.4
Balance at 10 kts/h
Time at 10 kts/hr =(1554-x)/10
x/14.4 + (1554-x)/10= 126
10x+14.4(1554-x)= 10*14.4*126
10x+22,377.6 -14.4x =18144
-4.4x=-4233.6
x=962.18 kts.
At 14.4 kts/hr it will take 962.18/14.4 ---hours
=66.81 hours ===> 2 days 18 hours 48 minutes
16th may 1948 hours it has to reduce to 10 kts/hr to be on schedule.

Linear-equations/446128: give y-intercept and slope equation (-2,6) and (-9,1) 1 solutions
Answer 307225 by mananth(12270) on 2011-05-07 00:07:29 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!x1 y1 x2 y2
-2 6 -9 1
slope m =(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) 0.71
(1-6)/( -9-2)
(-5/-7)
m=0.71
Plug value of the slope and point (-2 ,6) in
Y =mx+b
6.00=-1.43+b
b=6-1.43
b=7.43
So the equation will be
Y =0.71 x+7.43
y intercept = 7.43
