Answer 386309 by mananth(12270) About Me  on 2012-05-22 20:53:46 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Plane speed x mph
wind speed 15 mph
..
against wind x - 15 mph
with wind x + 15 mph

Distance against wind 242
Distance with wind 253
Time = same equate the time against with time with current
t=d/r
242 /(x- 15 )= 253 /(x+ 15 )
242 *(x+ 15 )= 253 *(x- 15 )
242 x + 3630 = 253 x -3795
242 x -253 x = -3795 + -3630
-11 x = -7425
/ -11
x= 675 mph

Answer 386304 by mananth(12270) About Me  on 2012-05-22 20:42:43 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
$ 10,1000 - Total
Savings = x------- 4.5%
Bonds=2x-------5%
(10000-3x)-----4%
Interest = 455
4.5%x+5%*(2x)+(10000-3x)*4%= 455
multiply equation by 100
4.5x+10x+40000-12x=45500
2.5x=45500-40000
2.5x=5500
x= 5500/2.5
x= 2200
so you know how much he invested in other accounts

Answer 385614 by mananth(12270) About Me  on 2012-05-18 23:56:09 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let Phil's apeed be x ft/m
Heim's speed = x+2 ft/m
distance = 450 ft
time = distance/speed
time taken by Phil - time taken by Heim = 2.5
450/x - 450/(x+2)= 2.5
LCD = x(x+2)
multiply equation by LCD
450(x+2)-450x= 2.5x(x+2)
450x+900-450x=2.5x^2+5x
2.5x^2+5x-900=0
/2.5
x^2+2x-440=0
x^2+22x-20x-440=0
x(x+22)-20(x+22)=0
(x+22)(x-20)=0
x= 20 OR -22
speed cannot be negative. so phil's speed = 20ft/m

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Length of garden 38 feet
Width = 17 feet
width of dirtpath= 4 feet
Area = 38 * 17 646 ft^2
Length of garden +width of dirtpath 38 + 4
Width of garden + width of dirtpath 17 + 4
Area ofgarden + dirt path=(38+4 )(17+4)
Area ofgarden + dirt path=42*21
Area ofgarden + dirt path=882
Area of walkway = area of (pool+walkway)-areaof garden= 882 - 646
Area of dirt Path=236 ft^2

Surface-area/608813: A 5 by seven inch rectangular picture has a frame of uniform width.If the outer edge of the frame is to have a perimeter of 32 inches , how wide should the frame be?
1 solutions

Answer 383385 by mananth(12270) About Me  on 2012-05-08 20:23:52 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
length of picture=7 in
width of frame = 5in
uniform width all round = x inches
length of frame = 7+x
width = 5+x
Perimeter of frame = 2(L+W)
=2(7+x+5+x)
2(2x+12)= 32
/2
2x+12=16
-12
2x=4
/2
x=2
width = 2inch wide

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1 x + 5 y = 28 .............1
5 y = 28- x
/ 5 =
y = 5.6-0.2 x

-2x+y = -1
Substitute y in (2)
-2x+1(5.6-0.2x)=-2x+5.6 -0.2x=-1
-2x-0.2x=-6.6
-2.2 x = -6.6
/ -2.2
x= 3
Plug the value of x in (1)
x+5y=28
1*3+5y= 28
3 + 5 y = 28
5 y = 25
/ 5
y= 5

Answer 382332 by mananth(12270) About Me  on 2012-05-03 21:26:11 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let jake have $x
3x/8 on video tape
Balance left = x-3x/8
=5x/8
He spent (1/2) *(5x/8) on cassette tape
=(5x/16)
So he had a balance of (5x/8)-(5x/16)
=5x/16
6.25 = 6 1/4 = 25/4
5x/16 = 25/4
x= (16*25)/(4*5)
x= 20
He had $20

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Volume of cylinder - volume of three balls = volume of empty space.
Cylinder = pi*r^2*h
The height of cylinder = 3 times the diameter of the ball.
The radius of cylinder = radius of ball
= 3.14 * 1.25^2*7.5 =36.8 cu.in

Volume of 1 ball = 4/ 3 * pi* *r^3
=4/3 * pi* 1.25^3
=8.18 cu.in
3 balls volume = 8.18 *3
= 24.54 cu.in
empty space = 36.8 - 8.18= 27.68 cu.in

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
distance= speed * time
800*3 = 2400 miles
20 minutes = 1/3 hours
when late, time taken = 3-1/3 = 8/3 hours
Let x be the increase in speed when it is late.
Distance = speed * time
2400 = (800+x)*8/3
7200 = 6400+8x
800=8x
/8
100 = x
The speed increase will be 100 km/h
so the speed will be 800+100 = 900 km/h
