Answer 457413 by lenny460(770) on 2013-05-23 01:43:58 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!-2(4z+5) > -6-4z
-2 * 4z = -8z
-2 * 5 = -10
Therefore:
-8z - 10 > -6 - 4z
Add 10 to each side of the inequality.
-8z - 10 + 10 > -6 - 4z + 10
Combine like terms:
-10 + 10 = 0
-6 + 10 = 4
We now have:
-8z > 4 - 4z
Add 4z to each side of the inequality.
-8z + 4z > 4 - 4z + 4z
Combine like terms:
-8z + 4z = -4z
-4z + 4z = 0
Therefore:
-4z > 4
Divide each side by -4
z < -1
Please note: When you divide an inequality by a negative number you flip (change) the inequality sign.
Answer:
z < -1

Graphs/751110: 3y+8=7-4y 1 solutions
Answer 456990 by lenny460(770) on 2013-05-21 09:30:22 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!3y + 8 = 7 - 4y
Add 4y to each side of the equation.
3y + 8 + 4y = 7 - 4y + 4y
Combine like terms:
3y + 4y = 7y
-4y + 4y = 0
Therefore:
7y + 8 = 7
Subtract 8 from each side of the equation.
7y + 8 - 8 = 7 - 8
8 - 8 = 0
7 - 8 = -1
7y = -1
Divide each side by 7
y = -1/7
Answer:
y = -1/7

test/750979: 8x+2x-11=59 1 solutions
Answer 456982 by lenny460(770) on 2013-05-21 08:51:03 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!8x + 2x - 11 = 59
Combine like terms:
8x + 2x = 10x
10x - 11 = 59
Add 11 to each side of the equation.
10x - 11 + 11 = 59 + 11
Combine like terms:
-11 + 11 = 0
59 + 11 = 70
Therefore:
10x = 70
x = 7
Answer:
x = 7

Answer 456230 by lenny460(770) on 2013-05-17 16:49:34 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Cindy is driving to her grandma's house a distance of 420 miles. She left at 8 am driving 65 mph. At noon, she stopped an hour for lunch. What speed should she drive to get to her grandmas by 5pm ?
Distance to grandma's house is 420 miles.
8 am to noon = 4 hours
65 * 4 = 260 miles
420 - 260 = 160
Cindy stopped for an hour for lunch between noon and 1.00 pm.
5 pm - 1 pm = 4 hours
Therefore:
160 / 4 = 40 miles per hour.
Answer:
40 miles per hour.

test/749711: Solve By Substitution:
-3x+4y=-18
x=-2y-4 1 solutions
Answer 456217 by lenny460(770) on 2013-05-17 15:55:13 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Solve By Substitution:
-3x + 4y = -18
x = -2y - 4
Substitute x = -2y - 4 into the first equation.
-3x + 4y = -18
-3(-2y - 4) + 4y = -18
-3 * -2y = 6y
-3 * -4 = 12
We now have:
6y + 12 + 4y = -18
Combine like terms:
6y + 4y = 10y
10y + 12 = -18
Subtract 12 from each side of the equation.
10y + 12 - 12 = -18 - 12
Combine like terms:
12 - 12 = 0
-18 - 12 = -30
Therefore:
10y = -30
Divide each side by 10
10y/10 = -30/10
y = -3
Now substitute y = -3 into the second equation.
x = -2y - 4
x = -2(-3) - 4
-2(-3) = 6
x = 6 - 4
6 - 4 = 2
x = 2
Answer:
x = 2 and
y = -3

Travel_Word_Problems/749412: If I am traveling in a car at a speed of 95 feet per second, what is the approximate speed in miles per hour 1 solutions
Answer 455943 by lenny460(770) on 2013-05-16 10:02:41 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!If I am traveling in a car at a speed of 95 feet per second, what is the approximate speed in miles per hour ?
1 mile = 5280 feet.
1 hour = 60 * 60 = 3600 seconds.
Therefore:
1 mile/hour
= 5280 feet/3600 seconds = 1.47 feet/second.
To convert feet per second to miles per hour - divide by 1.47
Therefore:
95 / 1.47 = 64.62 mph
Answer:
64.62 miles per hour
