Answer 363892 by kkasko(46) on 2012-01-21 19:37:02 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!6(x-2)=8(2x+3)
Step 1:multiply what is out of the brackets by what is in the brackets.
6(x-2)=8(2x+3)
6x-12=16x+24
Step 2: get x one one side and the integers on the other by doing the inverse of the interger or the variable.
6x-12=16x+24
-6x -24. -6x. -24
-12-24=16x-6x
Step: 3 subtract -12-24=-36 and 16x-6x =10x
Step 4: isolate the variable by dividing by the integer for instance 10 in this case
-36=10x

You can put this solution on YOUR website!what is the next number in the arithmetic sequence 3, 11, 19, 29...
Are you sure the 29 is not supposed to be 27?
3+8=11+8=19+8=27
To solve you should first find the common difference.
d=t4-t3
d=27-19
d=8
plug it into the formula tn=t1+(n-1)d
t5=3+(5-1)8
t5=3+4(8)

Expressions-with-variables/556670: x+y=11
x-y=7 1 solutions
Answer 362205 by kkasko(46) on 2012-01-12 21:21:03 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Step 1: Isolate for variable y
x+y=11
-x. -x
y=-x+11
x-y=7
-x. -x
-y=-x+7
Cannot have a -1 so divide by -1
y=-x/-1+7/-1
y=x-7
Step 2: draw a x and y axis
Plot the first equation at (0,11) and go down 1 right one till you have gone as far right as possible. Then from (0,11) go up 1 left 1 and go as far left as possible.
Plot the second equation at (0,-7) go up 1 right one until you have gone as far right as possible. Then from the point (0,-7) go down one left one until you have gone as far left as possible.
Step 3: the points should now connect at (9,2)

Linear-systems/555475: 4x+3y=33
6x+y=25 1 solutions
Answer 361790 by kkasko(46) on 2012-01-10 21:15:41 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!4x+3y=33
6x+y=25
4x+3y=33
-4x. -4x
3y=-4x+33
/3. /3. /3
Y=-4/3x+11
6x+y=25
-6x. -6x
y=-6x+25
You can now create a graph by the starting y intercepts and the slope of each line. For instance the first equation starts at (0,11) and goes down 4 right 3. Then once you have gone to the edge of the graphing paper. Start again at (0,11) and go down 4 left 3.
The second equation starts at (0,25) and has a slope of -6/1 which means it goes down 6 and right one. Then after goes as far right as possible. The two lines should connect at (3,7). This is the solution to the problem.

Expressions-with-variables/555235: how do u solve
y=5x-10
y=3x+8 1 solutions
Answer 361699 by kkasko(46) on 2012-01-10 16:05:40 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!how do u solve
y=5x-10
y=3x+8
This is solved by graphing as it is already in y=mx+b form.
The point you should start at for the first equation is (0,-10) which is on the y-axis and from that point go up 5 and right 1. And then from (0,-10) go down 5 and left 1.
The point you should start at for the second equation is (0,8) also on the y axis from that point go up 3 and right 1. Then from that point you should go down 3 and left 1. The points should now connect and that is your solution.
You could also do this problem with a graphing calculator by putting both equations into y=. Equation one in Y1 and equation 2 in Y 2. Then enter correct window settings which are { -10,10,1,-60,40,1,1}. Or you could press zoom fit which shows where they intersect on the screen. And changes the window settings. It's still good to know how to change window settings manually though. As zoom fit does not show an accurate graph. Then press 2nd calc. Intersect. Enter, enter, enter.
The equations intersect at (9,35)

Expressions-with-variables/555082: Based on the lesson, which of the following would be the best approach for solving this system by substitution?
5x = y + 6
2x - 3y = 4 1 solutions

You can put this solution on YOUR website!Based on the lesson, which of the following would be the best approach for solving this system by substitution?
5x = y + 6
2x - 3y = 4
Isolating the x value from the 5 by dividing it like this
5x=y+6
/5. /5. /5
x=1/5y+6/5
2x-3y=4
2(1/5y+6/5)-3y=4
2/5y+12/5-3y=4
Now collect like terms -3y+2/5y
-13/5y+12/5=4
-12/5. -12/5
-13/5y=8/5
Isolate the y
-13/5y=8/5
/(-13/5). /(-13/5)
y=-.6153846151. However we need to convert this into a fraction to get x so Math Fract
Y=-8/13
Now substitute it into the original equation
2x-3y=4
2x-3(-8/13)=4
Again can't have a decimal so math Fract
2x+24/13=4
Isolate 2x from -24/13 by adding 24/13 to 4
2x+24/13=4
-24/13. -24/13
Again math Fract
2x=28/13
Divide by 2
2x=(28/13)
/2. /2
Math Fract
x=14/13
CHECK
2x-3y=4
2(14/13)-3(-8/13)=4
4=4
Left hand side = Right hand side
Solution=(14/13,-8/13)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!Solve the following system of equations.
2x + y = 3
x = 2y - 1
Make sure there are NO SPACES in your answer. Include a comma in your answer.
It looks like I could substitute the x=2y-1. Into 2x+y=3
2(2y-1)+y=3
4y-2+y=3
5y=5
y=1
x=2(1)-1
x=1
(1,1)
CHECK
2x+y=3
2(1)+(1)=3
2+1=3
3=3
Left hand side=Right hand side
Check other equation
x=2y-1
1=2(1)-1
1=1
Therefore the solution is (1,1). Since the left hand side= right hand side in each equation

Graphs/554543: Good Afternoon,
Can you graph the following inequality for me?
3x -2y < -6
and explain the points to me.

Answer 361405 by kkasko(46) on 2012-01-09 15:12:37 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!3x -2y < -6
solve the inequality in terms of x
3x -2y <-3x-6
-3x
-2y<-3x-6
flip the < sign since you are dividing by a negative number.
/-2>/-2 /-2
y > 3/2x+3
I am not sure how to do a graph on this software yet however the inequality is in y=mx+b form.
so draw a y axis and an x axis. Plot the (0,3) on the y axis. go up 3 and left 2 and then go down 3 left 2 from (0,3). Connect the points and draw arrows on each end of the line. Since y is greater than 3/2x+3 the line is a broken or dashed line.

test/554546: Factor the trinomial (can you please show & tell me how to do this)
5tsquared -22t-15 1 solutions
Answer 361381 by kkasko(46) on 2012-01-09 14:22:25 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Factor the trinomial (can you please show & tell me how to do this)
The first step is to find _x_= 5x-15=-75
_+_=-22
5t^2 -22t-15. -25+3=-22. -25x3=-75
Now put the -25t+3t into the equation where -22t was so.
5t^2-25t+3t-15
Now break the trinomial into two factors by 5x_=-25 and after the bracket put a 3 and then another bracket( t and 3x_=-15
5t(t-5)3(t-5)
(5t+3)(t-5)
These are the factors to the trinomial
