You can put this solution on YOUR website!
+1%2F14+%2B+18%2Fx+
This is an expression, not an equation, so
the most you can do with it is express it
as a single fraction.
Multiply the 1st fraction by +x%2Fx+
Multiply the 2nd fraction by +14%2F14+
This changes nothing, since you're multiplying
by +1+ in both cases
+%281%2F14%29%2A%28x%2Fx%29+%2B+%2818%2Fx%29%2A%2814%2F14%29+

+%28+x+%2B+252+%29+%2F+%28+14x+%29+

test/728566: A machine caps a 1000 bottles in 10 minutes, another machine caps 1000 bottles in 8 minutes.
a) If these machines were together how much time will it take to cap 1000 bottles?
b) if t1 and t2 are the time in the above problem. Determine the time taken by both machines working together?
c) What expression corresponds to the time it takes the 2 machines to do a job if the first does it in (a-2) minutes and the second one does it in (a^2-2a) minutes.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Since you're only dealing with 1000 bottles, you can
say that 1000 bottles = 1 job
Add the rates that the 2 machines work at
( 1 job / 10 min ) + ( 1 job / 8 min ) = 1 job / t min

This is +7%2F8+ of a tankful
---------------
This is similar to a +d+=+r%2At+ problem
( 7/8 of a tank ) = [ ( 1 tankful / 12 hrs ) + ( 1 tankful / 8 hrs ) ] x time in hrs
Note that the plane is using fuel at the normal rate plus rate due to leak
+7%2F8+=+%28+1%2F12+%2B+1%2F8+%29%2At+
Multiply both sides by +24+
+3%2A7+=+%28+2+%2B+3+%29%2At+

+t+=+4.2+ hrs
The plane will run out of fuel in 4.2 hrs after leak begins

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You have, in words,
The log to the base +5+ which gives you +x equals +4+
-------------------
You really have to know how to read this to understand it.
Just look at the beginning and the end:
"The log . . . . . . equals +4+"
Log are exponents, so you know that +4+ is the exponent
-------------------
" to the base +5+ "
The base is what the exponent raises, if +5+ is the base,
then you have +5%5E4+ so far
--------------------
" which gives you +x+ "
Now you have +x+=+5%5E4+ answer
Working it out,
+x+=+625+
Hope this helps
