You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Since order does not matter, we must use the combination formula:

n%21%2F%28n-r%29%21r%21 Start with the given formula

8%21%2F%288-3%29%213%21 Plug in n=8 and r=3

8%21%2F5%213%21 Subtract 8-3 to get 5

Expand 8!
%288%2A7%2A6%2A5%2A4%2A3%2A2%2A1%29%2F5%213%21

Expand 5!
%288%2A7%2A6%2A5%2A4%2A3%2A2%2A1%29%2F%285%2A4%2A3%2A2%2A1%293%21

%288%2A7%2A6%2Across%285%2A4%2A3%2A2%2A1%29%29%2F%28cross%285%2A4%2A3%2A2%2A1%29%293%21 Cancel

%288%2A7%2A6%29%2F3%21 Simplify

Expand 3!
%288%2A7%2A6%29%2F%283%2A2%2A1%29

336%2F%283%2A2%2A1%29 Multiply 8*7*6 to get 336

336%2F6 Multiply 3*2*1 to get 6

56 Now divide

So 8 choose 3 (where order doesn't matter) yields 56 unique combinations

Answer 322776 by jim_thompson5910(28598) About Me  on 2011-07-15 05:00:14 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First, we must factor.

x%5E3%2B2x%5E2-16x-32 Start with the given expression

%28x%5E3%2B2x%5E2%29%2B%28-16x-32%29 Group like terms

x%5E2%28x%2B2%29-16%28x%2B2%29 Factor out the GCF x%5E2 out of the first group. Factor out the GCF -16 out of the second group

%28x%5E2-16%29%28x%2B2%29 Since we have the common term x%2B2, we can combine like terms

%28x%2B4%29%28x-4%29%28x%2B2%29 Now factor x%5E2-16 to get %28x%2B4%29%28x-4%29 (this a difference of squares)

So x%5E3%2B2x%5E2-16x-32 factors to %28x%2B4%29%28x-4%29%28x%2B2%29

In other words, x%5E3%2B2x%5E2-16x-32=%28x%2B4%29%28x-4%29%28x%2B2%29

------------------------------------------------------------------

So this essentially means that x%5E3%2B2x%5E2-16x-32=0 becomes %28x%2B4%29%28x-4%29%28x%2B2%29=0

Now we move onto solving %28x%2B4%29%28x-4%29%28x%2B2%29=0

%28x%2B4%29%28x-4%29%28x%2B2%29=0 Start with the given equation.

x%2B4=0 or x-4=0, or x%2B2=0 Use the zero product property

x=-4 or x=4, or x=-2 Solve for 'x' in each equation.

So the three solutions are x=-4 or x=4, or x=-2

Looking at y=%281%2F3%29x-2 we can see that the equation is in slope-intercept form y=mx%2Bb where the slope is m=1%2F3 and the y-intercept is b=-2

Since b=-2 this tells us that the y-intercept is .Remember the y-intercept is the point where the graph intersects with the y-axis

So we have one point

Now since the slope is comprised of the "rise" over the "run" this means
slope=rise%2Frun

Also, because the slope is 1%2F3, this means:

rise%2Frun=1%2F3

which shows us that the rise is 1 and the run is 3. This means that to go from point to point, we can go up 1 and over 3

So starting at , go up 1 unit

and to the right 3 units to get to the next point

Now draw a line through these points to graph y=%281%2F3%29x-2

So this is the graph of y=%281%2F3%29x-2 through the points and

Conjunction/470593: Hello. I am looking for assistance on this particular problem. ANy help you can give is greatly appreciated. Let p represent a true statement, while q and r represent false statements. Find the truth value of the compound statement.

Answer 322767 by jim_thompson5910(28598) About Me  on 2011-07-15 04:37:27 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If p is true, then ~p is false since ~p is the opposite of p. Note: ~p means "not p"

If q is false, then ~q (not q) is NOT false, so ~q is true.

So we know that ~p is false and ~q is true. So ~p v ~q is then true because p v q is true if either p or q is true.

Finally, (~p v ~q) ^ ~q is true because BOTH ~p v ~q AND ~q are true. Since they are BOTH true, the conjunction is true.

So (~p v ~q) ^ ~q is true, which is the final truth value.

Note: I noticed that you mentioned r, but it doesn't show up in the expression. Is that a typo?

To find the x-intercept, plug in y=0 and solve for x.

y=2x-6

0=2x-6

6=2x

6/2=x

3=x

x=3

So the x-intercept is the point (3,0)

The tree diagram will look like the following (of course, you may have it oriented a different way)

Sample space:

{369T,396T,639T,693T,936T,963T,369R,396R,639R,693R,936R,963R}

There are 6 plates with a T in them and there are 12 plates total. So probability is 6/12 = 1/2

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
%28x-1%29%5E2%2B%28y%2B3%29%5E2=100 Start with the given equation.

%28-7-1%29%5E2%2B%28y%2B3%29%5E2=100 Plug in x=-7. The goal now is to solve for y.

%28-8%29%5E2%2B%28y%2B3%29%5E2=100 Subtract

64%2B%28y%2B3%29%5E2=100 Square -8 to get 64

%28y%2B3%29%5E2=100-64 Subtract 64 from both sides.

%28y%2B3%29%5E2=36 Subtract

y%2B3=%27%27%2B-sqrt%2836%29 Take the square root of both sides.

y%2B3=sqrt%2836%29 or y%2B3=-sqrt%2836%29 Break up the "plus/minus"

y%2B3=6 or y%2B3=-6 Take the square root of 36 to get 6.

y=6-3 or y=-6-3 Subtract 3 from both sides.

y=3 or y=-9 Subtract

So the y-coordinates are y=3 and y=-9

So the two points are (-7,3) and (-7,-9)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

6x-3y=9 Start with the given equation.

-3y=9-6x Subtract 6x from both sides.

-3y=-6x%2B9 Rearrange the terms.

y=%28-6x%2B9%29%2F%28-3%29 Divide both sides by -3 to isolate y.

y=%28%28-6%29%2F%28-3%29%29x%2B%289%29%2F%28-3%29 Break up the fraction.

y=2x-3 Reduce.

Looking at y=2x-3 we can see that the equation is in slope-intercept form y=mx%2Bb where the slope is m=2 and the y-intercept is b=-3

Since b=-3 this tells us that the y-intercept is .Remember the y-intercept is the point where the graph intersects with the y-axis

So we have one point

Now since the slope is comprised of the "rise" over the "run" this means
slope=rise%2Frun

Also, because the slope is 2, this means:

rise%2Frun=2%2F1

which shows us that the rise is 2 and the run is 1. This means that to go from point to point, we can go up 2 and over 1

So starting at , go up 2 units

and to the right 1 unit to get to the next point

Now draw a line through these points to graph y=2x-3

So this is the graph of y=2x-3 through the points and

I'm going to use the variable x instead of 'a'.

x%5E2%2B3x-28=0 Start with the given equation.

Notice that the quadratic x%5E2%2B3x-28 is in the form of Ax%5E2%2BBx%2BC where A=1, B=3, and C=-28

Let's use the quadratic formula to solve for "x":

x+=+%28-B+%2B-+sqrt%28+B%5E2-4AC+%29%29%2F%282A%29 Start with the quadratic formula

x+=+%28-%283%29+%2B-+sqrt%28+%283%29%5E2-4%281%29%28-28%29+%29%29%2F%282%281%29%29 Plug in A=1, B=3, and C=-28

x+=+%28-3+%2B-+sqrt%28+9-4%281%29%28-28%29+%29%29%2F%282%281%29%29 Square 3 to get 9.

x+=+%28-3+%2B-+sqrt%28+9--112+%29%29%2F%282%281%29%29 Multiply 4%281%29%28-28%29 to get -112

x+=+%28-3+%2B-+sqrt%28+9%2B112+%29%29%2F%282%281%29%29 Rewrite sqrt%289--112%29 as sqrt%289%2B112%29

x+=+%28-3+%2B-+sqrt%28+121+%29%29%2F%282%281%29%29 Add 9 to 112 to get 121

x+=+%28-3+%2B-+sqrt%28+121+%29%29%2F%282%29 Multiply 2 and 1 to get 2.

x+=+%28-3+%2B-+11%29%2F%282%29 Take the square root of 121 to get 11.

x+=+%28-3+%2B+11%29%2F%282%29 or x+=+%28-3+-+11%29%2F%282%29 Break up the expression.

x+=+%288%29%2F%282%29 or x+=++%28-14%29%2F%282%29 Combine like terms.

x+=+4 or x+=+-7 Reduce.

So the solutions are x+=+4 or x+=+-7

Solve for y:

4x=3y

3y = 4x

y = 4/3x

So we now have y=expr%284%2F3%29x. Add on a +0 (it doesn't change anything) to get y=expr%284%2F3%29x%2B0. So the equation is now in y=mx+b form where m=4%2F3 and b=0

Even though you have a large sample, this doesn't necessarily mean that this sample is representative. You have to ask yourself: how was the sample drawn? Was it done in a truly random fashion? Also, you have to keep in mind that ONLY AOL internet subscribers were sampled. So people who did not have internet or did not subscribe with AOL were left out. Since many people fit in either category, this means that this sample is NOT representative.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First, find the zeros of y=%28x%2B18%29%28x-12%29%28x%2B3%29.

(x+18)(x-12)(x+3)=0

x+18=0 or x-12=0 or x+3=0

x=-18, x=12, or x=-3

In ascending order, the zeros are: -18,-3,12

Now in the interval , (x+18)(x-12)(x+3) is negative. Simply plug in any negative number less than -18 to see this (eg: plug in x=-20 to get (-20+18)(-20-12)(-20+3)=-1088)

In the interval , (x+18)(x-12)(x+3) is positive. Simply plug in any number in the interval to see this (eg: plug in x=-5 to get (-5+18)(-5-12)(-5+3)=442)

In the interval , (x+18)(x-12)(x+3) is negative. Simply plug in any number in the interval to see this (eg: plug in x=0 to get (0+18)(0-12)(0+3)=-648)

Finally, in the interval , (x+18)(x-12)(x+3) is positive. Simply plug in any number greater than 12 to see this (eg: plug in x=50 to get (50+18)(50-12)(50+3)=136952)

So the following intervals make (x+18)(x-12)(x+3) positive: and

So combine them with a union symbol to get the final answer:
