This is a binomial distribution problem.

In this case, n = 15, p = 0.05 and k = 2

So plug all of that into the formula below and evaluate.

P(X = k) = (n C r)*(p)^(k)*(1-p)^(n-k)

P(X = 2) = (15 C 2)*(0.05)^(2)*(0.95)^(15-2)

P(X = 2) = (105)*(0.05)^(2)*(0.95)^13

P(X = 2) = (105)*(0.0025)*(0.5133420832795)

P(X = 2) = 0.13475229686087

P(X = 2) = 0.134752

Final Answer (Rounded to 6 decimal places):

P(X = 2) = 0.134752

Miscellaneous_Word_Problems/726754: A company that produces flashlight batteries wishes to know what percentage of its batteries will last longer than 30 hours. It selects and tests a random sample of 300 batteries. Of these batteries, 225 last 30 hours or more.

The sample size is 300. The number of successes are 225, so the sample proportion is

phat = x/n = 225/300 = 0.75

So the sample proportion is phat = 0.75

Notes:

1) phat (pronounced pee-hat) is the sample proportion that estimates the population proportion p. This is NOT the same as the p-value. The symbol you'll most likely see for phat is (basically a p with a ^ directly over it)

2) x = number of successes and n = sample size

3) A "success" in this case is finding a battery that lasts 30 hours or more. If you find a battery that lasts less than 30 hours, then it's not a success and it's a failure.

4) The sample proportion (phat) is equal to the ratio or fraction of the number of successes (x) over the number in the sample (n)

1) The probability of any event is ALWAYS POSITIVE (unless the probability is 0) and it is ALWAYS LESS THAN 1. So if p is the probability of some event, then 0%3C=+p+%3C=+1 (where p is a real number between 0 and 1)

2) You can't have two values for the probability in part c). Only one probability is possible.

a) 0.754116149619739

b) 0.809213047147489

c) 0.283778446023862

Make sure you round to the proper decimal place as instructed.

If you don't have a calculator and you don't want to use a table, then wolfram alpha is your next best bet. Just go to that site, type in "normalcdf" without quotes, and you'll be able to compute the probabilities.

Answer 444711 by jim_thompson5910(28595) About Me  on 2013-03-16 00:31:25 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Two generic points that define a straight line are (x1, y1) and (x2, y2)

In this case, (x1, y1) = (6, 7), which means x1=6 and y1= 7

and (x2, y2) = (9, 2), which means x2=9 and y2= 2

So x1=6, y1= 7, x2=9, and y2= 2.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Now use the slope formula

m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

m = ( 2- 7)/(9-6)

m = -5/3

So the slope of the line that passes through the two points is -5/3

This is an arithmetic sequence since the common difference is d = 41 - 37 = 4 each time.

First term: a1 = 37

Common Difference: d = 4

a(n) = a1 + d(n-1)

a(n) = 37 + 4(n-1)

a(n) = 37 + 4n-4

a(n) = 4n + 33

a(15) = 4(15) + 33

a(15) = 60 + 33

a(15) = 93

There are 93 seats in row 15.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The slope of y-7=3/2x is 3/2 (since y-7=3/2x can be turned into y = 3/2x + 7)

So the slope of any equation going through CD must also have a slope of 3/2 because CD is parallel to AB and all parallel lines have the same slope.

So the answer will look like y = 3/2x + b where b is any number.

As x increases by 2, y decreases by 2. So the slope is -2/2 = -1. So m = -1

The y intercept is 20 since this is where x = 0. So b = 20

This means y = mx+b turns into y = -1x + 20 which is just f(x) = -x+20 which is your final answer (in function notation).

Looking at the expression 3x%5E2%2B8x-3, we can see that the first coefficient is 3, the second coefficient is 8, and the last term is -3.

Now multiply the first coefficient 3 by the last term -3 to get %283%29%28-3%29=-9.

Now the question is: what two whole numbers multiply to -9 (the previous product) and add to the second coefficient 8?

To find these two numbers, we need to list all of the factors of -9 (the previous product).

Factors of -9:
1,3,9
-1,-3,-9

Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.

These factors pair up and multiply to -9.
1*(-9) = -9
3*(-3) = -9
(-1)*(9) = -9
(-3)*(3) = -9

Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient 8:

First NumberSecond NumberSum
1-91+(-9)=-8
3-33+(-3)=0
-19-1+9=8
-33-3+3=0

From the table, we can see that the two numbers -1 and 9 add to 8 (the middle coefficient).

So the two numbers -1 and 9 both multiply to -9 and add to 8

Now replace the middle term 8x with -x%2B9x. Remember, -1 and 9 add to 8. So this shows us that -x%2B9x=8x.

3x%5E2%2Bhighlight%28-x%2B9x%29-3 Replace the second term 8x with -x%2B9x.

%283x%5E2-x%29%2B%289x-3%29 Group the terms into two pairs.

x%283x-1%29%2B%289x-3%29 Factor out the GCF x from the first group.

x%283x-1%29%2B3%283x-1%29 Factor out 3 from the second group. The goal of this step is to make the terms in the second parenthesis equal to the terms in the first parenthesis.

%28x%2B3%29%283x-1%29 Combine like terms. Or factor out the common term 3x-1

===============================================================

Answer:

So 3x%5E2%2B8x-3 factors to %28x%2B3%29%283x-1%29.

In other words, 3x%5E2%2B8x-3=%28x%2B3%29%283x-1%29.

Note: you can check the answer by expanding %28x%2B3%29%283x-1%29 to get 3x%5E2%2B8x-3 or by graphing the original expression and the answer (the two graphs should be identical).

the square of her age 3 years from now ---> (x+3)^2

10 times her age 2 years ago ----> 10(x-2)

-------------------------------------------------------

"How old is Blanche today if the square of her age 3 years from now, minus 10 times her age 2 years ago is 50"

turns into

(x+3)^2 - 10(x - 2) = 50

Solve for x

(x+3)^2 - 10(x - 2) = 50

x^2 + 6x + 9 - 10(x - 2) = 50

x^2 + 6x + 9 - 10x + 20 = 50

x^2 + 6x + 9 - 10x + 20 - 50 = 0

x^2-4x-21 = 0

(x-7)(x+3) = 0

x-7 = 0 or x+3 = 0

x = 7 or x = -3

Ignore the negative answer.

So the only solution is x = 7

This means that Blanche is 7 years old currently.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

2x%2B4y=6 Start with the given equation.

4y=6-2x Subtract 2x from both sides.

4y=-2x%2B6 Rearrange the terms.

y=%28-2x%2B6%29%2F%284%29 Divide both sides by 4 to isolate y.

y=%28%28-2%29%2F%284%29%29x%2B%286%29%2F%284%29 Break up the fraction.

y=-%281%2F2%29x%2B3%2F2 Reduce.

Looking at y=-%281%2F2%29x%2B3%2F2 we can see that the equation is in slope-intercept form y=mx%2Bb where the slope is m=-1%2F2 and the y-intercept is b=3%2F2

Since b=3%2F2 this tells us that the y-intercept is .Remember the y-intercept is the point where the graph intersects with the y-axis

So we have one point

Now since the slope is comprised of the "rise" over the "run" this means
slope=rise%2Frun

Also, because the slope is -1%2F2, this means:

rise%2Frun=-1%2F2

which shows us that the rise is -1 and the run is 2. This means that to go from point to point, we can go down 1 and over 2

So starting at , go down 1 unit

and to the right 2 units to get to the next point

Now draw a line through these points to graph y=-%281%2F2%29x%2B3%2F2

So this is the graph of y=-%281%2F2%29x%2B3%2F2 through the points and

First make a probability tree of all the possible outcomes (given the restriction rules)

The values in red are the probabilities for each scenario. For example, there’s a 12.5% chance of flipping THH (start at the top and go left, right, right)

Circle all the probabilities where T shows up 3 times to get this

Add up all those circled probabilities: 12.5+6.25+6.25+6.25 = 31.25

So the probability of that the third tail does occur is a 31.25% chance, which in decimal form is 0.3125

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Looking at the expression 16x%5E2-40x%2B25, we can see that the first coefficient is 16, the second coefficient is -40, and the last term is 25.

Now multiply the first coefficient 16 by the last term 25 to get %2816%29%2825%29=400.

Now the question is: what two whole numbers multiply to 400 (the previous product) and add to the second coefficient -40?

To find these two numbers, we need to list all of the factors of 400 (the previous product).

Factors of 400:
1,2,4,5,8,10,16,20,25,40,50,80,100,200,400
-1,-2,-4,-5,-8,-10,-16,-20,-25,-40,-50,-80,-100,-200,-400

Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.

These factors pair up and multiply to 400.
1*400 = 400
2*200 = 400
4*100 = 400
5*80 = 400
8*50 = 400
10*40 = 400
16*25 = 400
20*20 = 400
(-1)*(-400) = 400
(-2)*(-200) = 400
(-4)*(-100) = 400
(-5)*(-80) = 400
(-8)*(-50) = 400
(-10)*(-40) = 400
(-16)*(-25) = 400
(-20)*(-20) = 400

Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient -40:

First NumberSecond NumberSum
14001+400=401
22002+200=202
41004+100=104
5805+80=85
8508+50=58
104010+40=50
162516+25=41
202020+20=40
-1-400-1+(-400)=-401
-2-200-2+(-200)=-202
-4-100-4+(-100)=-104
-5-80-5+(-80)=-85
-8-50-8+(-50)=-58
-10-40-10+(-40)=-50
-16-25-16+(-25)=-41
-20-20-20+(-20)=-40

From the table, we can see that the two numbers -20 and -20 add to -40 (the middle coefficient).

So the two numbers -20 and -20 both multiply to 400 and add to -40

Now replace the middle term -40x with -20x-20x. Remember, -20 and -20 add to -40. So this shows us that -20x-20x=-40x.

16x%5E2%2Bhighlight%28-20x-20x%29%2B25 Replace the second term -40x with -20x-20x.

4x%284x-5%29-5%284x-5%29 Factor out 5 from the second group. The goal of this step is to make the terms in the second parenthesis equal to the terms in the first parenthesis.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If there are m sides, then the angles sum up to 180(m-2) degrees
-------------------------------------------------------

There is 1 angle that is 80 degrees

There are m angles total, so this means that there are m-1 angles left (if one is already taken). These m-1 angles are all 160 degrees.

So

80 + 160(m-1) = 180(m-2)

Solve for m:

80+160(m-1)=180(m-2)

80+160m-160=180m-360

160m-80=180m-360

160m=180m-360+80

160m-180m=-360+80

-20m=-360+80

-20m=-280

m=(-280)/(-20)

m=14

So there are 14 sides (and 14 angles).

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Looking at the expression 2x%5E2%2B11x-21, we can see that the first coefficient is 2, the second coefficient is 11, and the last term is -21.

Now multiply the first coefficient 2 by the last term -21 to get %282%29%28-21%29=-42.

Now the question is: what two whole numbers multiply to -42 (the previous product) and add to the second coefficient 11?

To find these two numbers, we need to list all of the factors of -42 (the previous product).

Factors of -42:
1,2,3,6,7,14,21,42
-1,-2,-3,-6,-7,-14,-21,-42

Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.

These factors pair up and multiply to -42.
1*(-42) = -42
2*(-21) = -42
3*(-14) = -42
6*(-7) = -42
(-1)*(42) = -42
(-2)*(21) = -42
(-3)*(14) = -42
(-6)*(7) = -42

Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient 11:

First NumberSecond NumberSum
1-421+(-42)=-41
2-212+(-21)=-19
3-143+(-14)=-11
6-76+(-7)=-1
-142-1+42=41
-221-2+21=19
-314-3+14=11
-67-6+7=1

From the table, we can see that the two numbers -3 and 14 add to 11 (the middle coefficient).

So the two numbers -3 and 14 both multiply to -42 and add to 11

Now replace the middle term 11x with -3x%2B14x. Remember, -3 and 14 add to 11. So this shows us that -3x%2B14x=11x.

So that's why 3x - 10x = -7x

So in the end, the final answer is -7x + 12

6x%5E2%2B18x-600 Start with the given expression.

6%28x%5E2%2B3x-100%29 Factor out the GCF 6.

Now let's try to factor the inner expression x%5E2%2B3x-100

---------------------------------------------------------------

Looking at the expression x%5E2%2B3x-100, we can see that the first coefficient is 1, the second coefficient is 3, and the last term is -100.

Now multiply the first coefficient 1 by the last term -100 to get %281%29%28-100%29=-100.

Now the question is: what two whole numbers multiply to -100 (the previous product) and add to the second coefficient 3?

Factors of -100:
1,2,4,5,10,20,25,50,100
-1,-2,-4,-5,-10,-20,-25,-50,-100

Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.

These factors pair up and multiply to -100.
1*(-100) = -100
2*(-50) = -100
4*(-25) = -100
5*(-20) = -100
10*(-10) = -100
(-1)*(100) = -100
(-2)*(50) = -100
(-4)*(25) = -100
(-5)*(20) = -100
(-10)*(10) = -100

Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient 3:

First NumberSecond NumberSum
1-1001+(-100)=-99
2-502+(-50)=-48
4-254+(-25)=-21
5-205+(-20)=-15
10-1010+(-10)=0
-1100-1+100=99
-250-2+50=48
-425-4+25=21
-520-5+20=15
-1010-10+10=0

From the table, we can see that there are no pairs of numbers which add to 3. So x%5E2%2B3x-100 cannot be factored.

x%5E3%2B8x%5E2%2B12x Start with the given expression.

x%28x%5E2%2B8x%2B12%29 Factor out the GCF x.

Now let's try to factor the inner expression x%5E2%2B8x%2B12

---------------------------------------------------------------

Looking at the expression x%5E2%2B8x%2B12, we can see that the first coefficient is 1, the second coefficient is 8, and the last term is 12.

Now multiply the first coefficient 1 by the last term 12 to get %281%29%2812%29=12.

Now the question is: what two whole numbers multiply to 12 (the previous product) and add to the second coefficient 8?

To find these two numbers, we need to list all of the factors of 12 (the previous product).

Factors of 12:
1,2,3,4,6,12
-1,-2,-3,-4,-6,-12

Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.

These factors pair up and multiply to 12.
1*12 = 12
2*6 = 12
3*4 = 12
(-1)*(-12) = 12
(-2)*(-6) = 12
(-3)*(-4) = 12

Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient 8:

From the table, we can see that the two numbers 2 and 6 add to 8 (the middle coefficient).

So the two numbers 2 and 6 both multiply to 12 and add to 8

Now replace the middle term 8x with 2x%2B6x. Remember, 2 and 6 add to 8. So this shows us that 2x%2B6x=8x.

1,3,5,15,25,75
-1,-3,-5,-15,-25,-75

Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.

These factors pair up and multiply to 75.
1*75 = 75
3*25 = 75
5*15 = 75
(-1)*(-75) = 75
(-3)*(-25) = 75
(-5)*(-15) = 75

Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient -8:

First NumberSecond NumberSum
1751+75=76
3253+25=28
5155+15=20
-1-75-1+(-75)=-76
-3-25-3+(-25)=-28
-5-15-5+(-15)=-20

From the table, we can see that there are no pairs of numbers which add to -8. So 15x%5E2-8x%2B5 cannot be factored.

Answer:

So 15x%5E2-8x%2B5 doesn't factor at all (over the rational numbers).

So 15x%5E2-8x%2B5 is prime.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If you know the area of the base, then you can find the height.

This is because

Volume = (Area of Base)*(Height)

V = B*h

where B = area of base, h = height

-----------------------------------------

Solve for h to get

h+=+V%2FB

So if you know what B is, then you can plug in V = 200 and the value of B, then evaluate to get your answer.
