You can put this solution on YOUR website!This is a binomial distribution problem.
In this case, n = 15, p = 0.05 and k = 2
So plug all of that into the formula below and evaluate.
P(X = k) = (n C r)*(p)^(k)*(1-p)^(n-k)
P(X = 2) = (15 C 2)*(0.05)^(2)*(0.95)^(15-2)
P(X = 2) = (105)*(0.05)^(2)*(0.95)^13
P(X = 2) = (105)*(0.0025)*(0.5133420832795)
P(X = 2) = 0.13475229686087
P(X = 2) = 0.134752
Final Answer (Rounded to 6 decimal places):
P(X = 2) = 0.134752

You can put this solution on YOUR website!The sample size is 300. The number of successes are 225, so the sample proportion is
phat = x/n = 225/300 = 0.75
So the sample proportion is phat = 0.75
Notes:
1) phat (pronounced pee-hat) is the sample proportion that estimates the population proportion p. This is NOT the same as the p-value. The symbol you'll most likely see for phat is (basically a p with a ^ directly over it)
2) x = number of successes and n = sample size
3) A "success" in this case is finding a battery that lasts 30 hours or more. If you find a battery that lasts less than 30 hours, then it's not a success and it's a failure.
4) The sample proportion (phat) is equal to the ratio or fraction of the number of successes (x) over the number in the sample (n)

Linear-equations/726663: Find the slope of the line that passes through the pair of points (6, 7) and (9, 2). 1 solutions
Answer 444711 by jim_thompson5910(28595) on 2013-03-16 00:31:25 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Two generic points that define a straight line are (x1, y1) and (x2, y2)
In this case, (x1, y1) = (6, 7), which means x1=6 and y1= 7
and (x2, y2) = (9, 2), which means x2=9 and y2= 2
So x1=6, y1= 7, x2=9, and y2= 2.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Now use the slope formula
m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
m = ( 2- 7)/(9-6)
m = -5/3
So the slope of the line that passes through the two points is -5/3

Sequences-and-series/726661: A theater has 37 seats in the first row, 41 seats in the second row, 45 seats in the third row and so on. how many seats are in row 15 1 solutions
Answer 444705 by jim_thompson5910(28595) on 2013-03-15 23:59:36 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!This is an arithmetic sequence since the common difference is d = 41 - 37 = 4 each time.
First term: a1 = 37
Common Difference: d = 4
a(n) = a1 + d(n-1)
a(n) = 37 + 4(n-1)
a(n) = 37 + 4n-4
a(n) = 4n + 33
a(15) = 4(15) + 33
a(15) = 60 + 33
a(15) = 93
There are 93 seats in row 15.

Parallelograms/726660: Side AB of parallelogram ABCD is represented by the equation y-7=3/2x. Which equation could represent side CD 1 solutions
Answer 444704 by jim_thompson5910(28595) on 2013-03-15 23:57:39 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!The slope of y-7=3/2x is 3/2 (since y-7=3/2x can be turned into y = 3/2x + 7)
So the slope of any equation going through CD must also have a slope of 3/2 because CD is parallel to AB and all parallel lines have the same slope.
So the answer will look like y = 3/2x + b where b is any number.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!As x increases by 2, y decreases by 2. So the slope is -2/2 = -1. So m = -1
The y intercept is 20 since this is where x = 0. So b = 20
This means y = mx+b turns into y = -1x + 20 which is just f(x) = -x+20 which is your final answer (in function notation).

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Looking at the expression , we can see that the first coefficient is , the second coefficient is , and the last term is .
Now multiply the first coefficient by the last term to get .
Now the question is: what two whole numbers multiply to (the previous product) and add to the second coefficient ?
To find these two numbers, we need to list all of the factors of (the previous product).
Factors of  :
1,3,9
-1,-3,-9
Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.
These factors pair up and multiply to .
1*(-9) = -9
3*(-3) = -9
(-1)*(9) = -9
(-3)*(3) = -9
Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient :
| First Number | Second Number | Sum | | 1 | -9 | 1+(-9)=-8 | | 3 | -3 | 3+(-3)=0 | | -1 | 9 | -1+9=8 | | -3 | 3 | -3+3=0 |
From the table, we can see that the two numbers and add to (the middle coefficient).
So the two numbers and both multiply to and add to
Now replace the middle term with . Remember, and add to . So this shows us that .
 Replace the second term with .
 Group the terms into two pairs.
 Factor out the GCF from the first group.
 Factor out from the second group. The goal of this step is to make the terms in the second parenthesis equal to the terms in the first parenthesis.
 Combine like terms. Or factor out the common term
===============================================================
Answer:
So  factors to  .
In other words,  .
Note: you can check the answer by expanding to get or by graphing the original expression and the answer (the two graphs should be identical).

But it is not working out. 1 solutions
Answer 444208 by jim_thompson5910(28595) on 2013-03-13 02:53:12 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!the square of her age 3 years from now ---> (x+3)^2
10 times her age 2 years ago ----> 10(x-2)
-------------------------------------------------------
"How old is Blanche today if the square of her age 3 years from now, minus 10 times her age 2 years ago is 50"
turns into
(x+3)^2 - 10(x - 2) = 50
Solve for x
(x+3)^2 - 10(x - 2) = 50
x^2 + 6x + 9 - 10(x - 2) = 50
x^2 + 6x + 9 - 10x + 20 = 50
x^2 + 6x + 9 - 10x + 20 - 50 = 0
x^2-4x-21 = 0
(x-7)(x+3) = 0
x-7 = 0 or x+3 = 0
x = 7 or x = -3
Ignore the negative answer.
So the only solution is x = 7
This means that Blanche is 7 years old currently.

Answer 444206 by jim_thompson5910(28595) on 2013-03-13 02:41:24 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
 Start with the given equation.
 Subtract  from both sides.
 Rearrange the terms.
 Divide both sides by to isolate y.
 Break up the fraction.
 Reduce.
Looking at we can see that the equation is in slope-intercept form where the slope is and the y-intercept is
Since this tells us that the y-intercept is ) .Remember the y-intercept is the point where the graph intersects with the y-axis
So we have one point
Now since the slope is comprised of the "rise" over the "run" this means
Also, because the slope is , this means:
which shows us that the rise is -1 and the run is 2. This means that to go from point to point, we can go down 1 and over 2
So starting at ) , go down 1 unit
and to the right 2 units to get to the next point
Now draw a line through these points to graph
 So this is the graph of through the points ) and

Circle all the probabilities where T shows up 3 times to get this
Add up all those circled probabilities: 12.5+6.25+6.25+6.25 = 31.25
So the probability of that the third tail does occur is a 31.25% chance, which in decimal form is 0.3125

1,2,4,5,8,10,16,20,25,40,50,80,100,200,400
-1,-2,-4,-5,-8,-10,-16,-20,-25,-40,-50,-80,-100,-200,-400
Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.
These factors pair up and multiply to .
1*400 = 400
2*200 = 400
4*100 = 400
5*80 = 400
8*50 = 400
10*40 = 400
16*25 = 400
20*20 = 400
(-1)*(-400) = 400
(-2)*(-200) = 400
(-4)*(-100) = 400
(-5)*(-80) = 400
(-8)*(-50) = 400
(-10)*(-40) = 400
(-16)*(-25) = 400
(-20)*(-20) = 400
Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient :
| First Number | Second Number | Sum | | 1 | 400 | 1+400=401 | | 2 | 200 | 2+200=202 | | 4 | 100 | 4+100=104 | | 5 | 80 | 5+80=85 | | 8 | 50 | 8+50=58 | | 10 | 40 | 10+40=50 | | 16 | 25 | 16+25=41 | | 20 | 20 | 20+20=40 | | -1 | -400 | -1+(-400)=-401 | | -2 | -200 | -2+(-200)=-202 | | -4 | -100 | -4+(-100)=-104 | | -5 | -80 | -5+(-80)=-85 | | -8 | -50 | -8+(-50)=-58 | | -10 | -40 | -10+(-40)=-50 | | -16 | -25 | -16+(-25)=-41 | | -20 | -20 | -20+(-20)=-40 |
 Condense the terms.

Polygons/725369: A polygon has m sides. If one of its interior angles is 80 degrees, and the other interior angles are each equal to 160 degrees, find the value of m. 1 solutions
Answer 444121 by jim_thompson5910(28595) on 2013-03-12 18:22:07 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!If there are m sides, then the angles sum up to 180(m-2) degrees
-------------------------------------------------------
There is 1 angle that is 80 degrees
There are m angles total, so this means that there are m-1 angles left (if one is already taken). These m-1 angles are all 160 degrees.
So
80 + 160(m-1) = 180(m-2)
Solve for m:
80+160(m-1)=180(m-2)
80+160m-160=180m-360
160m-80=180m-360
160m=180m-360+80
160m-180m=-360+80
-20m=-360+80
-20m=-280
m=(-280)/(-20)
m=14
So there are 14 sides (and 14 angles).

Answer 444105 by jim_thompson5910(28595) on 2013-03-12 17:25:43 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!3x and -10x are like terms. Combine them to get -7x. Notice how 3 + (-10) = 3 - 10 = -7
So that's why 3x - 10x = -7x
So in the end, the final answer is -7x + 12

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
 Start with the given expression.
 Factor out the GCF  .
Now let's try to factor the inner expression
---------------------------------------------------------------
Looking at the expression , we can see that the first coefficient is , the second coefficient is , and the last term is .
Now multiply the first coefficient by the last term to get .

To find these two numbers, we need to list all of the factors of (the previous product).
Factors of  :
1,2,4,5,10,20,25,50,100
-1,-2,-4,-5,-10,-20,-25,-50,-100
Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.
These factors pair up and multiply to .
1*(-100) = -100
2*(-50) = -100
4*(-25) = -100
5*(-20) = -100
10*(-10) = -100
(-1)*(100) = -100
(-2)*(50) = -100
(-4)*(25) = -100
(-5)*(20) = -100
(-10)*(10) = -100
Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient :
| First Number | Second Number | Sum | | 1 | -100 | 1+(-100)=-99 | | 2 | -50 | 2+(-50)=-48 | | 4 | -25 | 4+(-25)=-21 | | 5 | -20 | 5+(-20)=-15 | | 10 | -10 | 10+(-10)=0 | | -1 | 100 | -1+100=99 | | -2 | 50 | -2+50=48 | | -4 | 25 | -4+25=21 | | -5 | 20 | -5+20=15 | | -10 | 10 | -10+10=0 |

Volume/725327: Please help me understand how I get the height of a rectangular prism with a volume of 200 cm. Thank you for any help 1 solutions
Answer 444090 by jim_thompson5910(28595) on 2013-03-12 16:42:12 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!If you know the area of the base, then you can find the height.
This is because
Volume = (Area of Base)*(Height)
V = B*h
where B = area of base, h = height
-----------------------------------------
Solve for h to get
So if you know what B is, then you can plug in V = 200 and the value of B, then evaluate to get your answer.
