You can put this solution on YOUR website!

First, list the prime factorization of each number. If you need help with prime factorization, check out this solver.

48: 2*2*2*2*3

60: 2*2*3*5

75: 3*5*5

Now highlight the unique factors. Remember, highlight the factors that occur most frequently

48: 2*2*2*2*3

60: 2*2*3*5

75: 3*5*5

Now multiply all of the highlighted factors

2*2*2*2*3*5*5=1200

So the LCM of 48, 60, and 75 is 1200

Solved by pluggable solver: Using Cramer's Rule to Solve Systems with 2 variables

system%281%2Ax%2B-5%2Ay=-1%2C-2%2Ax%2B5%2Ay=-3%29

First let A=%28matrix%282%2C2%2C1%2C-5%2C-2%2C5%29%29. This is the matrix formed by the coefficients of the given system of equations.

Take note that the right hand values of the system are -1 and -3 which are highlighted here:
system%281%2Ax%2B-5%2Ay=highlight%28-1%29%2C-2%2Ax%2B5%2Ay=highlight%28-3%29%29

These values are important as they will be used to replace the columns of the matrix A.

Now let's calculate the the determinant of the matrix A to get abs%28A%29=%281%29%285%29-%28-5%29%28-2%29=-5. Remember that the determinant of the 2x2 matrix A=%28matrix%282%2C2%2Ca%2Cb%2Cc%2Cd%29%29 is abs%28A%29=ad-bc. If you need help with calculating the determinant of any two by two matrices, then check out this solver.

Notation note: abs%28A%29 denotes the determinant of the matrix A.

---------------------------------------------------------

Now replace the first column of A (that corresponds to the variable 'x') with the values that form the right hand side of the system of equations. We will denote this new matrix A%5Bx%5D (since we're replacing the 'x' column so to speak).

A%5Bx%5D=%28matrix%282%2C2%2Chighlight%28-1%29%2C-5%2Chighlight%28-3%29%2C5%29%29

Now compute the determinant of A%5Bx%5D to get abs%28A%5Bx%5D%29=%28-1%29%285%29-%28-5%29%28-3%29=-20. Once again, remember that the determinant of the 2x2 matrix A=%28matrix%282%2C2%2Ca%2Cb%2Cc%2Cd%29%29 is abs%28A%29=ad-bc

To find the first solution, simply divide the determinant of A%5Bx%5D by the determinant of A to get: x=%28abs%28A%5Bx%5D%29%29%2F%28abs%28A%29%29=%28-20%29%2F%28-5%29=4

So the first solution is x=4

---------------------------------------------------------

We'll follow the same basic idea to find the other solution. Let's reset by letting A=%28matrix%282%2C2%2C1%2C-5%2C-2%2C5%29%29 again (this is the coefficient matrix).

Now replace the second column of A (that corresponds to the variable 'y') with the values that form the right hand side of the system of equations. We will denote this new matrix A%5By%5D (since we're replacing the 'y' column in a way).

A%5Bx%5D=%28matrix%282%2C2%2C1%2Chighlight%28-1%29%2C-2%2Chighlight%28-3%29%29%29

Now compute the determinant of A%5By%5D to get abs%28A%5By%5D%29=%281%29%28-3%29-%28-1%29%28-2%29=-5.

To find the second solution, divide the determinant of A%5By%5D by the determinant of A to get: y=%28abs%28A%5By%5D%29%29%2F%28abs%28A%29%29=%28-5%29%2F%28-5%29=1

So the second solution is y=1

====================================================================================

Final Answer:

So the solutions are x=4 and y=1 giving the ordered pair (4, 1)

Once again, Cramer's Rule is dependent on determinants. Take a look at this 2x2 Determinant Solver if you need more practice with determinants.

Note: is the first point . So this means that x%5B1%5D=7 and y%5B1%5D=-2.
Also, is the second point . So this means that x%5B2%5D=-1 and y%5B2%5D=-5.

m=%28y%5B2%5D-y%5B1%5D%29%2F%28x%5B2%5D-x%5B1%5D%29 Start with the slope formula.

m=%28-5--2%29%2F%28-1-7%29 Plug in y%5B2%5D=-5, y%5B1%5D=-2, x%5B2%5D=-1, and x%5B1%5D=7

m=%28-3%29%2F%28-1-7%29 Subtract -2 from -5 to get -3

m=%28-3%29%2F%28-8%29 Subtract 7 from -1 to get -8

m=3%2F8 Reduce

So the slope of the line that goes through the points and is m=3%2F8

Look at Row 5 in Pascals triangle: 1, 4, 6, 4, 1

These are the coefficients to the terms

(2x)^4*(-3)^0
(2x)^3*(-3)^1
(2x)^2*(-3)^2
(2x)^1*(-3)^3
(2x)^0*(-3)^4

Note: you basically raise the first piece to the 4th power and the second piece to the 0th power. Then you count down on the first exponent and count up on the second exponent.

so we get

1*(2x)^4*(-3)^0
4*(2x)^3*(-3)^1
6*(2x)^2*(-3)^2
4*(2x)^1*(-3)^3
1*(2x)^0*(-3)^4

which simplifies to

1*(16x^4)*(1)
4*(8x^3)*(-3)
6*(4x^2)*(9)
4*(2x^1)*(-27)
1*(1)*(81)

and that simplifies to

16x^4
-96x^3
216x^2
-216x
81

Now add up the terms to get

16x^4 - 96x^3 + 216x^2 - 216x + 81

So

(2x-3)^4 = 16x^4 - 96x^3 + 216x^2 - 216x + 81 for all values of x

Signed-numbers/654527: I am one of the tutors and was given a problem at work...it is as follows
4 x 4 + 4 x 4 + 4 - 4 x 4 = ?
I was always taught multiplication and division were higher functions than addtition and subtraction and should be done first.
so the answer is 20...the local physicist did the problem and said there is no difference and the answer is 320.
Who is correct...and thanks I hope I am not wasting anyone's time with something like this. Since all the tutors have very strong math background or teach math, I hope that this will prove to be the best resource.

4 x 4 + 4 x 4 + 4 - 4 x 4 = 16 + 16 + 4 - 16

4 x 4 + 4 x 4 + 4 - 4 x 4 = 32 + 4 - 16

4 x 4 + 4 x 4 + 4 - 4 x 4 = 36 - 16

4 x 4 + 4 x 4 + 4 - 4 x 4 = 20

So you are correct. If you use grouping symbols (like parenthesis or brackets), then the answer will change.

Angles/654472: Okay I am working in Geometry and am slightly confused the question is. Two supplementary angles are in a ratio of 1:8. Find the measures of the two angles... the equation is x+8x=180 and i worked it out as if i was solving for x but since i needed two angles i divided the final answer in half which of course left me with the angles equaling 10 but it didn't seem right to me. I am a bit lost on how to do this. Please do explain and help as must as you can.

Solve for x

x+8x=180

9x=180

x = 180/9

x = 20

So x = 20 and 8x = 8*20 = 160

So the two angles are 20 and 160 degrees.

Let the distance around the clock (from 12 to 12) be 12 units. The distance from 8 to 12 (in a clockwise fashion) is then 4 units (since 12 - 8 = 4)

So if the circumference of the clock is 12 units, and the hands subtend an arc that is 4 units, then the hands cut off 4/12 = 1/3 of the circumference.

There are 360 degrees in a circle. So the hands make an angle of 360*(1/3) = 360/3 = 120 degrees
