I'm assuming the function is g%28x%29+=+root%289%2C4x%2B7%29

This is an odd nth root radical function. So you can plug in any real number in for x and get some real number out for y.

Therefore,

Answer 422941 by jim_thompson5910(28476) About Me  on 2012-11-17 17:53:24 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Looking at the expression x%5E2-7x%2B12, we can see that the first coefficient is 1, the second coefficient is -7, and the last term is 12.

Now multiply the first coefficient 1 by the last term 12 to get %281%29%2812%29=12.

Now the question is: what two whole numbers multiply to 12 (the previous product) and add to the second coefficient -7?

To find these two numbers, we need to list all of the factors of 12 (the previous product).

Factors of 12:
1,2,3,4,6,12
-1,-2,-3,-4,-6,-12

Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.

These factors pair up and multiply to 12.
1*12 = 12
2*6 = 12
3*4 = 12
(-1)*(-12) = 12
(-2)*(-6) = 12
(-3)*(-4) = 12

Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient -7:

First NumberSecond NumberSum
1121+12=13
262+6=8
343+4=7
-1-12-1+(-12)=-13
-2-6-2+(-6)=-8
-3-4-3+(-4)=-7

From the table, we can see that the two numbers -3 and -4 add to -7 (the middle coefficient).

So the two numbers -3 and -4 both multiply to 12 and add to -7

Now replace the middle term -7x with -3x-4x. Remember, -3 and -4 add to -7. So this shows us that -3x-4x=-7x.

x%5E2%2Bhighlight%28-3x-4x%29%2B12 Replace the second term -7x with -3x-4x.

%28x%5E2-3x%29%2B%28-4x%2B12%29 Group the terms into two pairs.

x%28x-3%29%2B%28-4x%2B12%29 Factor out the GCF x from the first group.

x%28x-3%29-4%28x-3%29 Factor out 4 from the second group. The goal of this step is to make the terms in the second parenthesis equal to the terms in the first parenthesis.

%28x-4%29%28x-3%29 Combine like terms. Or factor out the common term x-3

===============================================================

Answer:

So x%5E2-7x%2B12 factors to %28x-4%29%28x-3%29.

In other words, x%5E2-7x%2B12=%28x-4%29%28x-3%29.

Note: you can check the answer by expanding %28x-4%29%28x-3%29 to get x%5E2-7x%2B12 or by graphing the original expression and the answer (the two graphs should be identical).

-5^3 is NOT -75 it is

-5^3 = -(5^3) = -(5*5*5) = -125, so it should be

3x-2=-5^3
3x-2=-125
3x=-123
x=-123/3
x = -41

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

First let's find the slope of the line through the points and

Note: is the first point . So this means that x%5B1%5D=2 and y%5B1%5D=12.
Also, is the second point . So this means that x%5B2%5D=1 and y%5B2%5D=6.

m=%28y%5B2%5D-y%5B1%5D%29%2F%28x%5B2%5D-x%5B1%5D%29 Start with the slope formula.

m=%286-12%29%2F%281-2%29 Plug in y%5B2%5D=6, y%5B1%5D=12, x%5B2%5D=1, and x%5B1%5D=2

m=%28-6%29%2F%281-2%29 Subtract 12 from 6 to get -6

m=%28-6%29%2F%28-1%29 Subtract 2 from 1 to get -1

m=6 Reduce

So the slope of the line that goes through the points and is m=6

Now let's use the point slope formula:

y-y%5B1%5D=m%28x-x%5B1%5D%29 Start with the point slope formula

y-12=6%28x-2%29 Plug in m=6, x%5B1%5D=2, and y%5B1%5D=12

y-12=6x%2B6%28-2%29 Distribute

y-12=6x-12 Multiply

y=6x-12%2B12 Add 12 to both sides.

y=6x%2B0 Combine like terms.

y=6x Remove the trailing zero

So the equation that goes through the points and is y=6x

percentage/681922: What is 92% off of $36?

Answer 422912 by jim_thompson5910(28476) About Me  on 2012-11-17 16:42:31 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
92% of $36 is (92/100)*36 = 0.96*36 = 33.12

Subtract this from 36 to get 36 - 33.12 = 2.88

So after taking 92% off of $36, you only have to pay $2.88. This is quite a discount, which makes sense given that 92% is a very large percentage (when it comes to discounts).

-x = 5 - y

x = y - 5

-------------------------------------------------------

2x+y=230

2(y-5)+y=230

2y - 10 + y = 230

test/681947: 4b^2-7b-15

Answer 422902 by jim_thompson5910(28476) About Me  on 2012-11-17 16:27:41 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Looking at the expression 4b%5E2-7b-15, we can see that the first coefficient is 4, the second coefficient is -7, and the last term is -15.

Now multiply the first coefficient 4 by the last term -15 to get %284%29%28-15%29=-60.

Now the question is: what two whole numbers multiply to -60 (the previous product) and add to the second coefficient -7?

To find these two numbers, we need to list all of the factors of -60 (the previous product).

Factors of -60:
1,2,3,4,5,6,10,12,15,20,30,60
-1,-2,-3,-4,-5,-6,-10,-12,-15,-20,-30,-60

Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.

These factors pair up and multiply to -60.
1*(-60) = -60
2*(-30) = -60
3*(-20) = -60
4*(-15) = -60
5*(-12) = -60
6*(-10) = -60
(-1)*(60) = -60
(-2)*(30) = -60
(-3)*(20) = -60
(-4)*(15) = -60
(-5)*(12) = -60
(-6)*(10) = -60

Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient -7:

First NumberSecond NumberSum
1-601+(-60)=-59
2-302+(-30)=-28
3-203+(-20)=-17
4-154+(-15)=-11
5-125+(-12)=-7
6-106+(-10)=-4
-160-1+60=59
-230-2+30=28
-320-3+20=17
-415-4+15=11
-512-5+12=7
-610-6+10=4

From the table, we can see that the two numbers 5 and -12 add to -7 (the middle coefficient).

So the two numbers 5 and -12 both multiply to -60 and add to -7

Now replace the middle term -7b with 5b-12b. Remember, 5 and -12 add to -7. So this shows us that 5b-12b=-7b.

4b%5E2%2Bhighlight%285b-12b%29-15 Replace the second term -7b with 5b-12b.

%284b%5E2%2B5b%29%2B%28-12b-15%29 Group the terms into two pairs.

b%284b%2B5%29%2B%28-12b-15%29 Factor out the GCF b from the first group.

b%284b%2B5%29-3%284b%2B5%29 Factor out 3 from the second group. The goal of this step is to make the terms in the second parenthesis equal to the terms in the first parenthesis.

%28b-3%29%284b%2B5%29 Combine like terms. Or factor out the common term 4b%2B5

===============================================================

Answer:

So 4b%5E2-7b-15 factors to %28b-3%29%284b%2B5%29.

In other words, 4b%5E2-7b-15=%28b-3%29%284b%2B5%29.

Note: you can check the answer by expanding %28b-3%29%284b%2B5%29 to get 4b%5E2-7b-15 or by graphing the original expression and the answer (the two graphs should be identical).

Looking at y=%283%2F2%29x%2B12 we can see that the equation is in slope-intercept form y=mx%2Bb where the slope is m=3%2F2 and the y-intercept is b=12

Since b=12 this tells us that the y-intercept is .Remember the y-intercept is the point where the graph intersects with the y-axis

So we have one point

Now since the slope is comprised of the "rise" over the "run" this means
slope=rise%2Frun

Also, because the slope is 3%2F2, this means:

rise%2Frun=3%2F2

which shows us that the rise is 3 and the run is 2. This means that to go from point to point, we can go up 3 and over 2

So starting at , go up 3 units

and to the right 2 units to get to the next point

Now draw a line through these points to graph y=%283%2F2%29x%2B12

So this is the graph of y=%283%2F2%29x%2B12 through the points and

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Looking at the expression 40a%5E2%2B21a-2, we can see that the first coefficient is 40, the second coefficient is 21, and the last term is -2.

Now multiply the first coefficient 40 by the last term -2 to get %2840%29%28-2%29=-80.

Now the question is: what two whole numbers multiply to -80 (the previous product) and add to the second coefficient 21?

To find these two numbers, we need to list all of the factors of -80 (the previous product).

Factors of -80:
1,2,4,5,8,10,16,20,40,80
-1,-2,-4,-5,-8,-10,-16,-20,-40,-80

Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.

These factors pair up and multiply to -80.
1*(-80) = -80
2*(-40) = -80
4*(-20) = -80
5*(-16) = -80
8*(-10) = -80
(-1)*(80) = -80
(-2)*(40) = -80
(-4)*(20) = -80
(-5)*(16) = -80
(-8)*(10) = -80

Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient 21:

First NumberSecond NumberSum
1-801+(-80)=-79
2-402+(-40)=-38
4-204+(-20)=-16
5-165+(-16)=-11
8-108+(-10)=-2
-180-1+80=79
-240-2+40=38
-420-4+20=16
-516-5+16=11
-810-8+10=2

From the table, we can see that there are no pairs of numbers which add to 21. So 40a%5E2%2B21a-2 cannot be factored.

===============================================================

Answer:

So 40a%5E2%2B21a-2 doesn't factor at all (over the rational numbers).

So 40a%5E2%2B21a-2 is prime.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Take 40% of 67.50 to get 0.4*67.50 = 27

So 40% of $67.50 is $27.

Add this to the original amount ($67.50) to get

67.50 + 27 = 94.50

=======================================================

Doing it in general

If you want to add 40% to any amount, call it x dollars, then

take 40% of x to get 0.4x

Then add it to the original amount x to get x + 0.4x

You can combine like terms to get 1.4x

Notice how 1.4 times 67.50 gives you the same answer as before.
