You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Looking at the expression , we can see that the first coefficient is , the second coefficient is , and the last term is .
Now multiply the first coefficient by the last term to get .
Now the question is: what two whole numbers multiply to (the previous product) and add to the second coefficient ?
To find these two numbers, we need to list all of the factors of (the previous product).
Factors of :
1,2,3,4,6,12
-1,-2,-3,-4,-6,-12
Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.
These factors pair up and multiply to .
1*12 = 12
2*6 = 12
3*4 = 12
(-1)*(-12) = 12
(-2)*(-6) = 12
(-3)*(-4) = 12
Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient :
| First Number | Second Number | Sum | | 1 | 12 | 1+12=13 | | 2 | 6 | 2+6=8 | | 3 | 4 | 3+4=7 | | -1 | -12 | -1+(-12)=-13 | | -2 | -6 | -2+(-6)=-8 | | -3 | -4 | -3+(-4)=-7 |
From the table, we can see that the two numbers and add to (the middle coefficient).
So the two numbers and both multiply to and add to
Now replace the middle term with . Remember, and add to . So this shows us that .
Replace the second term with .
Group the terms into two pairs.
Factor out the GCF from the first group.
Factor out from the second group. The goal of this step is to make the terms in the second parenthesis equal to the terms in the first parenthesis.
Combine like terms. Or factor out the common term
===============================================================
Answer:
So factors to .
In other words, .
Note: you can check the answer by expanding to get or by graphing the original expression and the answer (the two graphs should be identical).

Linear-equations/681927: What would the equation of the line be for the points (2,12) and (1,6) 1 solutions
Answer 422920 by jim_thompson5910(28476) on 2012-11-17 16:49:11 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First let's find the slope of the line through the points ) and
Note: ) is the first point ) . So this means that and .
Also, ) is the second point ) . So this means that and .
 Start with the slope formula.
 Plug in , , , and
 Subtract from to get
 Subtract from to get
 Reduce
So the slope of the line that goes through the points ) and ) is
Now let's use the point slope formula:
Start with the point slope formula
 Plug in , , and
 Distribute
 Multiply
 Add 12 to both sides.
 Combine like terms.
 Remove the trailing zero
So the equation that goes through the points ) and ) is

percentage/681922: What is 92% off of $36? 1 solutions
Answer 422912 by jim_thompson5910(28476) on 2012-11-17 16:42:31 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!92% of $36 is (92/100)*36 = 0.96*36 = 33.12
Subtract this from 36 to get 36 - 33.12 = 2.88
So after taking 92% off of $36, you only have to pay $2.88. This is quite a discount, which makes sense given that 92% is a very large percentage (when it comes to discounts).

-66
How do you get 84? 1 solutions
Answer 422899 by jim_thompson5910(28476) on 2012-11-17 16:25:14 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Your work
3(-1)(-3-5^2)
-3(-3+25) <<<<------ It should be -25 since -5^2 = -25
-3(22)
-66

Corrected work
3p(q-r^2)
3(-1)(-3-5^2)
3(-1)(-3-25)
3(-1)(-28)
-3(-28)
84
So 3p(q-r^2) = 84 when p = -1, q = -3 and r = 5

You can put this solution on YOUR website!Looking at we can see that the equation is in slope-intercept form where the slope is and the y-intercept is
Since this tells us that the y-intercept is ) .Remember the y-intercept is the point where the graph intersects with the y-axis
So we have one point
Now since the slope is comprised of the "rise" over the "run" this means
Also, because the slope is , this means:
which shows us that the rise is 3 and the run is 2. This means that to go from point to point, we can go up 3 and over 2
So starting at ) , go up 3 units
and to the right 2 units to get to the next point
Now draw a line through these points to graph
So this is the graph of through the points ) and

Now multiply the first coefficient by the last term to get .
Now the question is: what two whole numbers multiply to (the previous product) and add to the second coefficient ?
To find these two numbers, we need to list all of the factors of (the previous product).
Factors of :
1,2,4,5,8,10,16,20,40,80
-1,-2,-4,-5,-8,-10,-16,-20,-40,-80
Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.
These factors pair up and multiply to .
1*(-80) = -80
2*(-40) = -80
4*(-20) = -80
5*(-16) = -80
8*(-10) = -80
(-1)*(80) = -80
(-2)*(40) = -80

(-8)*(10) = -80
Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient :
| First Number | Second Number | Sum | | 1 | -80 | 1+(-80)=-79 | | 2 | -40 | 2+(-40)=-38 | | 4 | -20 | 4+(-20)=-16 | | 5 | -16 | 5+(-16)=-11 | | 8 | -10 | 8+(-10)=-2 | | -1 | 80 | -1+80=79 | | -2 | 40 | -2+40=38 | | -4 | 20 | -4+20=16 | | -5 | 16 | -5+16=11 | | -8 | 10 | -8+10=2 |
From the table, we can see that there are no pairs of numbers which add to . So cannot be factored.

Answer 422796 by jim_thompson5910(28476) on 2012-11-16 21:09:10 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Take 40% of 67.50 to get 0.4*67.50 = 27
So 40% of $67.50 is $27.
Add this to the original amount ($67.50) to get
67.50 + 27 = 94.50
=======================================================
Doing it in general
If you want to add 40% to any amount, call it x dollars, then
take 40% of x to get 0.4x
Then add it to the original amount x to get x + 0.4x
You can combine like terms to get 1.4x
Notice how 1.4 times 67.50 gives you the same answer as before.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!x^2 + y^2 = 1
can be rewritten as
(x-0)^2 + (y-0)^2 = 1^2
and that is in the form
(x-h)^2+(y-k)^2=r^2, which is a circle with radius r and center (h,k)
Since h = 0, k = 0 and r = 1, the center of x^2 + y^2 = 1 is (0,0) and it has a radius of 1 unit. This is a special circle known as the unit circle (which you'll use a lot in trigonometry).
The graph looks like this
