180/3 = x/5

60 = x/5

60*5 = x

300 = x

x = 300

So the answer is 300 km.

12-h=-h%2B3 Start with the given equation.

-h=-h%2B3-12 Subtract 12 from both sides.

-h%2Bh=3-12 Add h to both sides.

0h=3-12 Combine like terms on the left side.

0h=-9 Combine like terms on the right side.

0=-9 Simplify.

Since this equation is NEVER true for any h value, this means that there are NO solutions.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

2*ln(x-3) = ln(x+5) + ln(4)

2*ln(x-3) = ln[(x+5)*4]

2*ln(x-3) = ln(4x+20)

ln[(x-3)^2] = ln(4x+20)

(x-3)^2 = 4x+20

x^2 - 6x + 9 = 4x+20

x^2 - 6x + 9 - 4x-20 = 0

x^2 - 10x - 11 = 0

(x-11)(x+1) = 0

I'll let you finish. Make sure to check both possible answers (since only one of these values is truly the answer)

Add up the sides and set them equal to 35. This is because the three sides add up to 35 (the perimeter). Then solve for x.

x%2Bx%2B3%2Bx%2B5=35 Start with the given equation.

3x%2B8=35 Combine like terms on the left side.

3x=35-8 Subtract 8 from both sides.

3x=27 Combine like terms on the right side.

x=%2827%29%2F%283%29 Divide both sides by 3 to isolate x.

x=9 Reduce.

Any rational zero can be found through this equation

where p and q are the factors of the last and first coefficients

So let's list the factors of 8 (the last coefficient):

Now let's list the factors of 2 (the first coefficient):

Now let's divide each factor of the last coefficient by each factor of the first coefficient

Now simplify

These are all the distinct rational zeros of the function that could occur

Quadratic_Equations/692969: solve by substituting. x^-2-6x^-1=-4. hint: u=x^-1
1 solutions

Answer 427173 by jim_thompson5910(28577) About Me  on 2012-12-11 15:45:37 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
u=x^-1

u^2=x^-2

-------------------------------------------------------

So

x^-2-6x^-1=-4

becomes

u^2-6u = -4

which turns into

u^2 - 6u + 4 = 0

Now use the quadratic formula to solve for 'u'. Once you have two solutions for 'u', use them to find the two solutions for 'x'.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
V = (4/3)*pi*r^3

V = (4/3)*pi*5.4^3

V = (4/3)*3.14*5.4^3

V = 659.24928 cubic cm (approximately)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The hypotenuse is 12%2Asqrt%282%29 since in general if the leg is x units then the hypotenuse is x%2Asqrt%282%29 units.

Answer 427151 by jim_thompson5910(28577) About Me  on 2012-12-11 14:54:31 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
log(2x) + log(5y) = 1

log(2x*5y) = 1

log(10xy) = 1

log(10) + log(xy) = 1

1 + log(xy) = 1

log(xy) = 1-1

log(xy) = 0

xy = 10^0

xy = 1

Graphs/692933: Please help graphing a function

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You basically graph 3x+4 but only for values of x less than -2. This is shown in green.

Then you graph the point (-2, 5) and that's shown in red.

Finally, you graph 2-x^2 but only for values of x greater than -2. This is shown in blue.

Square-cubic-other-roots/692928: If f(x) = –x2 + x + 1, then f(a – 2) =
1 solutions

Answer 427149 by jim_thompson5910(28577) About Me  on 2012-12-11 14:44:12 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
f(x) = -x^2 + x + 1

f(a - 2) = -(a - 2)^2 + (a - 2) + 1

f(a - 2) = -(a^2 - 4a + 4) + (a - 2) + 1

f(a - 2) = -a^2 + 4a - 4 + a - 2 + 1

f(a - 2) = -a^2 + 5a - 5

-------------------------------------------------------
Answer: f(a - 2) = -a^2 + 5a - 5

Square-cubic-other-roots/692925: What are the values of x for which (x + 2)(x + 3) > 0?
1 solutions

Answer 427147 by jim_thompson5910(28577) About Me  on 2012-12-11 14:40:59 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(x + 2)(x + 3) > 0 is true when x < -3 or x > -2

It is not true when -3 < x < -2

You can see this if you plug in various values for x. For instance, plug in x = 0 (which is greater than -2) to see that you get a positive number. Or you can plug in x = -5 (now it's less than -3) and you'd still get a positive number. Plug in any number between -3 and -2 and you get a negative number.

C. 55 1/2 mph

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Each one way trip takes 8/2 = 4 hours.

d = rt

112 = r*4

112/4 = r

28 = r

r = 28

So her average speed is 28 mph.

Expressions-with-variables/692918: please help solve this

Answer 427145 by jim_thompson5910(28577) About Me  on 2012-12-11 14:34:56 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!

3x+4y=-3
x+2y=-1

3x+4y=-3
-2(x+2y)=-2*-1

3x+4y=-3
-2x-4y=2
---------
1x + 0y = -1

x = -1

x+2y = -1

-1+2y = -1

2y = -1+1

2y = 0

y = 0/2

y = 0

So x = -1 and y = 0

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3x+y=25

3x+x+5=25 ... plug in y = x+5

4x+5=25

4x=25-5

4x=20

x=20/4

x=5

Now use this to find y (by plugging it into y=x+5)

Graphs/692877: Graph the equation y= -1/3x + 2

Answer 427143 by jim_thompson5910(28577) About Me  on 2012-12-11 14:28:35 (Show Source):

Looking at y=-%281%2F3%29x%2B2 we can see that the equation is in slope-intercept form y=mx%2Bb where the slope is m=-1%2F3 and the y-intercept is b=2

Since b=2 this tells us that the y-intercept is .Remember the y-intercept is the point where the graph intersects with the y-axis

So we have one point

Now since the slope is comprised of the "rise" over the "run" this means
slope=rise%2Frun

Also, because the slope is -1%2F3, this means:

rise%2Frun=-1%2F3

which shows us that the rise is -1 and the run is 3. This means that to go from point to point, we can go down 1 and over 3

So starting at , go down 1 unit

and to the right 3 units to get to the next point

Now draw a line through these points to graph y=-%281%2F3%29x%2B2

So this is the graph of y=-%281%2F3%29x%2B2 through the points and
