You can put this solution on YOUR website!
9-((-5)-7) = 9-(-12) = 9+12 = 21

So 9-((-5)-7) = 21

1) 4x-5y+9+2x-y-14 = (4x+2x)+(-5y-y)+(9-14) = 6x-6y-5

2) -12x+y+7-(-x)+9y+(-7) = (-12x+x)+(y+9y)+(7-7) = -11x+10y

3) -x+2y+8x-5y+(+(-6x-)-4y .... you must have a typo here...

4) 4-(7y)+7x-14+y-1 = (7x)+(-7y+y)+(4-1-14) = 7x-6y-11

Hint: To find f(p-2), replace each 'p' with 'p-2' and simplify. To calculate -f(p-2), just negate each term of f(p-2). Finally, add 5 to get -f(p-2)+5. If you graph each step, you'll see the transformations.

2) Factor out the GCF 'x' to get x%5E2%2Bx=x%28x%2B1%29

Now if the problem is actually %285%2B5x%29%2F%28x%5E2%2Bx%29, then

Travel_Word_Problems/351797: If a train travels 60 kms an hour how far can it travel in 5 mins, 10mins, 20 mins?

Answer 251389 by jim_thompson5910(28595) About Me  on 2010-10-04 17:14:01 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Throughout the problem, r=60

Use d=rt to get

a) 5 mins:

5 minutes = 5%2F60=1%2F12 hours

So t=1%2F12

d=rt

d=60%281%2F12%29=5

So the train travels 5 km in 5 minutes

-------------

b) 10 mins:

10 minutes = 10%2F60=1%2F6 hours

So t=1%2F6

d=rt

d=60%281%2F6%29=10

So the train travels 10 km in 10 minutes

Starting to see a pattern?

---------
a) 20 mins:

20 minutes = 20%2F60=1%2F3 hours

So t=1%2F3

d=rt

d=60%281%2F3%29=20

So the train travels 20 km in 20 minutes

Note: If a train is traveling 60 kph, then in 'x' minutes it has traveled 'x' kilometers.

Pick any 3 x values and plug them into the given equation to find the corresponding y values

x=0: y=-3x%2B5=-3%280%29%2B5=0%2B5=5 So when x=0, y=5 which means we have the ordered pair (0,5)

x=1: y=-3x%2B5=-3%281%29%2B5=-3%2B5=2 So when x=1, y=2 which means we have the ordered pair (1,2)

x=2: y=-3x%2B5=-3%282%29%2B5=-6%2B5=-1 So when x=2, y=-1 which means we have the ordered pair (2,-1)

x+=+%28-8+%2B-+sqrt%28+16+%29%29%2F%282%281%29%29 Subtract 48 from 64 to get 16

x+=+%28-8+%2B-+sqrt%28+16+%29%29%2F%282%29 Multiply 2 and 1 to get 2.

x+=+%28-8+%2B-+4%29%2F%282%29 Take the square root of 16 to get 4.

x+=+%28-8+%2B+4%29%2F%282%29 or x+=+%28-8+-+4%29%2F%282%29 Break up the expression.

x+=+%28-4%29%2F%282%29 or x+=++%28-12%29%2F%282%29 Combine like terms.

x+=+-2 or x+=+-6 Simplify.

So the answers are x+=+-2 or x+=+-6

Hint:

Step 1) Find the mean

Step 2) Find the differences of the mean from each data value

Step 3) Square each difference

Step 4) Add up those squares

Step 5) Divide that sum by n-1 (where n is the number of numbers in the data set)

Step 6) Take the square root of the result from step 5 to get the standard deviation

Alternatively, you can use a calculator to calculate the standard deviation.

3x-8y=4 Start with the given equation.

-8y=4-3x Subtract 3x from both sides.

-8y=-3x%2B4 Rearrange the terms.

y=%28-3x%2B4%29%2F%28-8%29 Divide both sides by -8 to isolate y.

y=%28%28-3%29%2F%28-8%29%29x%2B%284%29%2F%28-8%29 Break up the fraction.

y=%283%2F8%29x-1%2F2 Reduce.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The basic idea here is to find the length of the track. You do this by calculating the circumference of the circle (imagine that this track creates a whole circle). Once you have the circumference, multiply it by 40%2F360 to find the length of the track that subtends 40 degrees.

When you have the length of the track, use the formula d=rt (distance = rate*time) to calculate the time it takes to travel that given distance at 30 mph.

Let me know if this helps.

Probability-and-statistics/351386: A card is drawn and a die is thrown. Find the following probabilities:

Answer 251084 by jim_thompson5910(28595) About Me  on 2010-10-03 19:38:56 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a)

P(Spade and rolling a 4) = P(Spade)*P(rolling a 4) = (13/52)*(1/6) = 13/312

Note: There are 13 spade cards out of a total of 52. So P(Spade) = 13/52. Also, I'm assuming that we're rolling a 6 sided die, which means that P(Rolling a 4) = 1/6

b)

P(Rolling an odd number and drawing an odd numbered card) = P(Rolling an odd number) * P(Drawing an odd numbered card) = (3/6)*(16/52) = 48/312 = 2/13

Note: There 3 odd numbers on a die (1, 3, 5) out of 6. So P(Rolling an odd number) = 3/6

Also, the odd numbered cards are: 3, 5, 7, 9 and there are 4 suits. So there are 4*4 = 16 odd cards out a total of 52. So P(Drawing an odd numbered card) = 16/52

c)

I'll let you tackle this one. Let me know if you need help on it.

Polynomials-and-rational-expressions/351365: How do you factor 2y^2-15y+12?
1 solutions

Answer 251071 by jim_thompson5910(28595) About Me  on 2010-10-03 19:00:47 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Looking at the expression 2y%5E2-15y%2B12, we can see that the first coefficient is 2, the second coefficient is -15, and the last term is 12.

Now multiply the first coefficient 2 by the last term 12 to get %282%29%2812%29=24.

Now the question is: what two whole numbers multiply to 24 (the previous product) and add to the second coefficient -15?

To find these two numbers, we need to list all of the factors of 24 (the previous product).

Factors of 24:
1,2,3,4,6,8,12,24
-1,-2,-3,-4,-6,-8,-12,-24

Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.

These factors pair up and multiply to 24.
1*24 = 24
2*12 = 24
3*8 = 24
4*6 = 24
(-1)*(-24) = 24
(-2)*(-12) = 24
(-3)*(-8) = 24
(-4)*(-6) = 24

Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient -15:

First NumberSecond NumberSum
1241+24=25
2122+12=14
383+8=11
464+6=10
-1-24-1+(-24)=-25
-2-12-2+(-12)=-14
-3-8-3+(-8)=-11
-4-6-4+(-6)=-10

From the table, we can see that there are no pairs of numbers which add to -15. So 2y%5E2-15y%2B12 cannot be factored.

===============================================================

Answer:

So 2y%5E2-15y%2B12 doesn't factor at all (over the rational numbers).

So 2y%5E2-15y%2B12 is prime.
