You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2x%2B3y=0 Start with the second equation.

2x%2B3%283x%2B3%29=0 Plug in y=3x%2B3 into the first equation. In other words, replace each y with 3x%2B3. Notice we've eliminated the y variables. So we now have a simple equation with one unknown.

2x%2B9x%2B9=0 Distribute

11x%2B9=0 Combine like terms on the left side

11x=0-9Subtract 9 from both sides

11x=-9 Combine like terms on the right side

x=%28-9%29%2F%2811%29 Divide both sides by 11 to isolate x

x=-9%2F11 Reduce

Now that we know that x=-9%2F11, we can plug this into y=3x%2B3 to find y

y=3x%2B3 Start with the first equation.

y=3%28-9%2F11%29%2B3 Substitute -9%2F11 for each x

y=-27%2F11%2B3 Multiply

y=6%2F11 Add

So the solutions are x=-9%2F11 and y=6%2F11

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I'm assuming that the equation is g-2%2F5=g%2B4%2F7

g-2%2F5=g%2B4%2F7 Start with the given equation.

35%28g-2%2Fcross%285%29%29=35%28g%2B4%2Fcross%287%29%29 Multiply both sides by the LCD 35 to clear any fractions.

35g-14=35g%2B20 Distribute and multiply.

35g=35g%2B20%2B14 Add 14 to both sides.

35g-35g=20%2B14 Subtract 35g from both sides.

0g=20%2B14 Combine like terms on the left side.

0g=34 Combine like terms on the right side.

0=34 Simplify.

Since this equation is never true for any g value, this means that there are no solutions.

Quadratic_Equations/392966: what is the solution set for the quadratic equation x^2+6x-3=0?
1 solutions

Answer 278940 by jim_thompson5910(28476) About Me  on 2011-01-10 20:47:56 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!

x%5E2%2B6x-3=0 Start with the given equation.

Notice that the quadratic x%5E2%2B6x-3 is in the form of Ax%5E2%2BBx%2BC where A=1, B=6, and C=-3

Let's use the quadratic formula to solve for "x":

x+=+%28-B+%2B-+sqrt%28+B%5E2-4AC+%29%29%2F%282A%29 Start with the quadratic formula

x+=+%28-%286%29+%2B-+sqrt%28+%286%29%5E2-4%281%29%28-3%29+%29%29%2F%282%281%29%29 Plug in A=1, B=6, and C=-3

x+=+%28-6+%2B-+sqrt%28+36-4%281%29%28-3%29+%29%29%2F%282%281%29%29 Square 6 to get 36.

x+=+%28-6+%2B-+sqrt%28+36--12+%29%29%2F%282%281%29%29 Multiply 4%281%29%28-3%29 to get -12

x+=+%28-6+%2B-+sqrt%28+36%2B12+%29%29%2F%282%281%29%29 Rewrite sqrt%2836--12%29 as sqrt%2836%2B12%29

x+=+%28-6+%2B-+sqrt%28+48+%29%29%2F%282%281%29%29 Add 36 to 12 to get 48

x+=+%28-6+%2B-+sqrt%28+48+%29%29%2F%282%29 Multiply 2 and 1 to get 2.

x+=+%28-6+%2B-+4%2Asqrt%283%29%29%2F%282%29 Simplify the square root (note: If you need help with simplifying square roots, check out this solver)

x+=+%28-6%29%2F%282%29+%2B-+%284%2Asqrt%283%29%29%2F%282%29 Break up the fraction.

x+=+-3+%2B-+2%2Asqrt%283%29 Reduce.

x+=+-3%2B2%2Asqrt%283%29 or x+=+-3-2%2Asqrt%283%29 Break up the expression.

So the solutions are x+=+-3%2B2%2Asqrt%283%29 or x+=+-3-2%2Asqrt%283%29

Polynomials-and-rational-expressions/392932: 8b^2+24b+18
1 solutions

Answer 278918 by jim_thompson5910(28476) About Me  on 2011-01-10 19:56:53 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I'm assuming you want to factor.

8b%5E2%2B24b%2B18 Start with the given expression.

2%284b%5E2%2B12b%2B9%29 Factor out the GCF 2.

Now let's try to factor the inner expression 4b%5E2%2B12b%2B9

---------------------------------------------------------------

Looking at the expression 4b%5E2%2B12b%2B9, we can see that the first coefficient is 4, the second coefficient is 12, and the last term is 9.

Now multiply the first coefficient 4 by the last term 9 to get %284%29%289%29=36.

Now the question is: what two whole numbers multiply to 36 (the previous product) and add to the second coefficient 12?

To find these two numbers, we need to list all of the factors of 36 (the previous product).

Factors of 36:
1,2,3,4,6,9,12,18,36
-1,-2,-3,-4,-6,-9,-12,-18,-36

Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.

These factors pair up and multiply to 36.
1*36 = 36
2*18 = 36
3*12 = 36
4*9 = 36
6*6 = 36
(-1)*(-36) = 36
(-2)*(-18) = 36
(-3)*(-12) = 36
(-4)*(-9) = 36
(-6)*(-6) = 36

Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient 12:

First NumberSecond NumberSum
1361+36=37
2182+18=20
3123+12=15
494+9=13
666+6=12
-1-36-1+(-36)=-37
-2-18-2+(-18)=-20
-3-12-3+(-12)=-15
-4-9-4+(-9)=-13
-6-6-6+(-6)=-12

From the table, we can see that the two numbers 6 and 6 add to 12 (the middle coefficient).

So the two numbers 6 and 6 both multiply to 36 and add to 12

Now replace the middle term 12b with 6b%2B6b. Remember, 6 and 6 add to 12. So this shows us that 6b%2B6b=12b.

4b%5E2%2Bhighlight%286b%2B6b%29%2B9 Replace the second term 12b with 6b%2B6b.

%284b%5E2%2B6b%29%2B%286b%2B9%29 Group the terms into two pairs.

2b%282b%2B3%29%2B%286b%2B9%29 Factor out the GCF 2b from the first group.

2b%282b%2B3%29%2B3%282b%2B3%29 Factor out 3 from the second group. The goal of this step is to make the terms in the second parenthesis equal to the terms in the first parenthesis.

%282b%2B3%29%282b%2B3%29 Combine like terms. Or factor out the common term 2b%2B3

%282b%2B3%29%5E2 Condense the terms.

--------------------------------------------------

So 2%284b%5E2%2B12b%2B9%29 then factors further to 2%282b%2B3%29%5E2

===============================================================

Answer:

So 8b%5E2%2B24b%2B18 completely factors to 2%282b%2B3%29%5E2.

In other words, 8b%5E2%2B24b%2B18=2%282b%2B3%29%5E2.

Note: you can check the answer by expanding 2%282b%2B3%29%5E2 to get 8b%5E2%2B24b%2B18 or by graphing the original expression and the answer (the two graphs should be identical).

Answer 278893 by jim_thompson5910(28476) About Me  on 2011-01-10 19:14:33 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First, we need to complete the square

3x%5E2-2x%2B7 Start with the given expression.

3%28x%5E2-%282%2F3%29x%2B7%2F3%29 Factor out the x%5E2 coefficient 3. This step is very important: the x%5E2 coefficient must be equal to 1.

Take half of the x coefficient -2%2F3 to get -1%2F3. In other words, %281%2F2%29%28-2%2F3%29=-1%2F3.

Now square -1%2F3 to get 1%2F9. In other words, %28-1%2F3%29%5E2=%28-1%2F3%29%28-1%2F3%29=1%2F9

3%28x%5E2-%282%2F3%29x%2Bhighlight%281%2F9-1%2F9%29%2B7%2F3%29 Now add and subtract 1%2F9 inside the parenthesis. Make sure to place this after the "x" term. Notice how 1%2F9-1%2F9=0. So the expression is not changed.

3%28%28x%5E2-%282%2F3%29x%2B1%2F9%29-1%2F9%2B7%2F3%29 Group the first three terms.

3%28%28x-1%2F3%29%5E2-1%2F9%2B7%2F3%29 Factor x%5E2-%282%2F3%29x%2B1%2F9 to get %28x-1%2F3%29%5E2.

3%28%28x-1%2F3%29%5E2%2B20%2F9%29 Combine like terms.

3%28x-1%2F3%29%5E2%2B3%2820%2F9%29 Distribute.

3%28x-1%2F3%29%5E2%2B20%2F3 Multiply.

So after completing the square, 3x%5E2-2x%2B7 transforms to 3%28x-1%2F3%29%5E2%2B20%2F3. So 3x%5E2-2x%2B7=3%28x-1%2F3%29%5E2%2B20%2F3.

So 3x%5E2-2x%2B7=0 is equivalent to 3%28x-1%2F3%29%5E2%2B20%2F3=0.

Now let's isolate %28x-1%2F3%29%5E2

3%28x-1%2F3%29%5E2%2B20%2F3=0 Start with the given equation.

3%28x-1%2F3%29%5E2=-20%2F3 Subtract 20%2F3 from both sides.

%28x-1%2F3%29%5E2=-20%2F9 Multiply both sides by 1%2F3.

So the solution is %28x-1%2F3%29%5E2=-20%2F9

Polynomials-and-rational-expressions/392799: 2y^2-13y+18
1 solutions

Answer 278883 by jim_thompson5910(28476) About Me  on 2011-01-10 19:01:02 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I'm assuming you want to factor.

Looking at the expression 2y%5E2-13y%2B18, we can see that the first coefficient is 2, the second coefficient is -13, and the last term is 18.

Now multiply the first coefficient 2 by the last term 18 to get %282%29%2818%29=36.

Now the question is: what two whole numbers multiply to 36 (the previous product) and add to the second coefficient -13?

To find these two numbers, we need to list all of the factors of 36 (the previous product).

Factors of 36:
1,2,3,4,6,9,12,18,36
-1,-2,-3,-4,-6,-9,-12,-18,-36

Note: list the negative of each factor. This will allow us to find all possible combinations.

These factors pair up and multiply to 36.
1*36 = 36
2*18 = 36
3*12 = 36
4*9 = 36
6*6 = 36
(-1)*(-36) = 36
(-2)*(-18) = 36
(-3)*(-12) = 36
(-4)*(-9) = 36
(-6)*(-6) = 36

Now let's add up each pair of factors to see if one pair adds to the middle coefficient -13:

First NumberSecond NumberSum
1361+36=37
2182+18=20
3123+12=15
494+9=13
666+6=12
-1-36-1+(-36)=-37
-2-18-2+(-18)=-20
-3-12-3+(-12)=-15
-4-9-4+(-9)=-13
-6-6-6+(-6)=-12

From the table, we can see that the two numbers -4 and -9 add to -13 (the middle coefficient).

So the two numbers -4 and -9 both multiply to 36 and add to -13

Now replace the middle term -13y with -4y-9y. Remember, -4 and -9 add to -13. So this shows us that -4y-9y=-13y.

2y%5E2%2Bhighlight%28-4y-9y%29%2B18 Replace the second term -13y with -4y-9y.

%282y%5E2-4y%29%2B%28-9y%2B18%29 Group the terms into two pairs.

2y%28y-2%29%2B%28-9y%2B18%29 Factor out the GCF 2y from the first group.

2y%28y-2%29-9%28y-2%29 Factor out 9 from the second group. The goal of this step is to make the terms in the second parenthesis equal to the terms in the first parenthesis.

%282y-9%29%28y-2%29 Combine like terms. Or factor out the common term y-2

===============================================================

Answer:

So 2y%5E2-13y%2B18 factors to %282y-9%29%28y-2%29.

In other words, 2y%5E2-13y%2B18=%282y-9%29%28y-2%29.

Note: you can check the answer by expanding %282y-9%29%28y-2%29 to get 2y%5E2-13y%2B18 or by graphing the original expression and the answer (the two graphs should be identical).

Solved by pluggable solver: Finding the Inverse of a 2x2 Matrix

To find the inverse of the matrix A=%28matrix%282%2C2%2C6%2C-3%2C-2%2C1%29%29, we can follow these steps:

Step 1) Find the determinant

The determinant of %28matrix%282%2C2%2C6%2C-3%2C-2%2C1%29%29 is abs%28matrix%282%2C2%2C6%2C-3%2C-2%2C1%29%29=0. So this means that d=0

Since the determinant is equal to zero, this means that no inverse exists.

Remember, the inverse of %28matrix%282%2C2%2Ca%2Cb%2Cc%2Cd%29%29 is %281%2Fd%29%28matrix%282%2C2%2Cd%2C-b%2C-c%2Ca%29%29.

If d=0, then a division by zero occurs, which is NOT allowed.

So we can stop here.

=================================================================

Answer:

So the inverse of A=%28matrix%282%2C2%2C6%2C-3%2C-2%2C1%29%29 does NOT exist since d=0 (ie the determinant is 0).

The only requirements of set C to make is that set C must have the elements 'a' and 'c' (since set A has these two elements as well). Other than that, set C can have ANYTHING else.

So for instance, one such set could be

C = {a,b,c,e}

or it could be

C = {a,c,r,q}

or it could be

C = {a,b,c,w,x,y,z}

And it goes on. It doesn't matter as long as 'a' and 'c' are in there. So this means that C is NOT unique.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

A=P%281%2Br%2Fn%29%5E%28n%2At%29 Start with the compound interest formula

36000=22000%281%2Br%2F365%29%5E%28365%2A5%29 Plug in A=36000, P=22000, n=365 and t=5.

36000=22000%281%2Br%2F365%29%5E%281825%29 Multiply 365 and 5 to get 1825.

36000%2F22000=%281%2Br%2F365%29%5E%281825%29 Divide both sides by 22000.

1.63636363636364=%281%2Br%2F365%29%5E%281825%29 Evaluate 36000%2F22000 to get 1.63636363636364.

root%281825%2C1.63636363636364%29=1%2Br%2F365 Take the 1825th root of both sides.

1.00026988654164=1%2Br%2F365 Take the 1825th root of 1.63636363636364 to get 1.00026988654164.

1.00026988654164-1=r%2F365 Subtract 1 from both sides.

0.00026988654164195=r%2F365 Combine like terms.

365%2A0.00026988654164195=r Multiply boths sides by 365 to isolate "r".

0.0985085876993119=r Multiply 365 and 0.00026988654164195 to get 0.0985085876993119.

r=0.0985085876993119 Rearrange the equation.

r=0.0985 Round to the nearest ten-thousandth.

So the interest rate is 9.85% (multiply by 100 to convert to a percentage)
