Problems-with-consecutive-odd-even-integers/58005: I have six problems that i need help with if you cant answer all. Just show me how to set them up
1. The sum of 5 and a number is three. Find the number.
Ans: Let x be that no.
hence x+5=3
Implies x=3-5=-2
x=-2
2. The difference between five and twice a number is one. Find the number.
Let that no.be x
5-2x=1
2x=5-1
2x=4
x=2
3. Four times the sum of twice a number and three is twelve. Find the number.
4(2x+3)=12
2x+3=12/3=4
2x=4-3=1
2x=1
x=1/2
4.Twice the difference between a number and twenty-five is three times the number. Find the number
2(x-25)=3x
2x-50=3x
x=-50
5. The sum of two numbers is twenty. Three times the smaller is equal to twice the larger. Find the number.
x+y=20 ------ (1)
3x=2y i.e, 3x-2y=0 ------ (2)
(1)*2 implies 2x+2y=40 ------- (3)
(2)+(3) implies 5x=40
x=8 & 8+y=20
x=8 & y=12
6. A 14-yard fishing line is cut into two pieces. Three times the length of the longer piece is four times the length of the shorter piece. Find the length of each piece 1 solutions

You can put this solution on YOUR website!1) x=-2
2)x=2
3)x=1/2
4)x=-50
5)x=8, y=12
6)x+y=14 --- (1)
3x-4y=0 --- (2)
(1)*4 implies
4x+4y=56
3x-4y=0
---------
7x = 56
---------
x = 56/7
x = 8
8+y = 14 implies y=14-8=6 implies y=6

Triangles/57973: 108. Area of a sail. A triangular sail has as area of x^2+5x+6 square meters and the height of x+3 meters find the length of the sails base. Area = x^2 +5x+6m^2 1 solutions
Answer 39654 by jaya_rohith1@yahoo.com(33) on 2006-10-25 03:53:53 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Area of the sail = x^2+5x+6
Height = x+3
Area of the triangle = 1/2 * base * height
x^2+5x+6 = 1/2 * base * x+3
Base = 2(x^2+5x+6)/(x+3)
= 2(x+2)(x+3)/(x+3)
= 2(x+2)

Rectangles/57976: 60. Rectangular stage. One side of a rectangular stage is 2 meters longer than the other. If the diagonal is 10 meters, when what are the lengths of the sides.
X + 2m
Let x be the length of one side.Therefore the other side's length is x+2. Given diagonal=10m.Therefore
10^2=x^2+(x+2)^2
100=2x^2+4x+4
2x^2+4x-96=0
x^2+2x-48=0
(x-6)(x+8)=0
x-6=0,x+8=0
x=6,x=-8
x=-8 is absurd.Therefore x=6
hence the lengths are 6m & 8m
