Hi,
write the equation of the line determined by the given pair of points.
a. (2, -3) and
(-1, 1) m = -4/3 |Using the point-slope formula,
y = (-4/3)x + b | y = mx + b
1 = (4/3)+b, b = -1/3 |using Pt(-1,1) to solve for b.
y = (-4/3)x-1/3
b. (-3, 0) and
(3, 2) m = -2/-6 = 1/3 |Using the point-slope formula,
y = (1/3)x + b | y = mx + b
0 = -1 + b, b= 1 |using Pt(-3,0) to solve for b
y = (1/3)x + 1

Standard Form of an Equation of an Ellipse is
where Pt(h,k) is the center and a and b are the respective vertices distances from center.
Standard Form of an Equation of an Hyperbola opening right and left is:

the vertex form of a parabola opening up or down, where(h,k) is the vertex.
The standard form is , where the focus is (h,k + p)
the vertex form of a parabola opening right or left, where(h,k) is the vertex.
The standard form is , where the focus is (h +p,k )

Sequences-and-series/478243: The table shows population estimates for Texas from 2003-2006 from U.S.Census Bureau.
Year 2003 2004 2005 2006
Population 22.12 22.49 22.86 23.41
in millions
a) Divide the population for each year by the population in the preceding year. Round to 2 decimal places & show that TX has population increase that is approximately geometric. b)Write the general term of the geometric sequence modeling Texas's population,in millions,n years after 2002. c) Use model from part b) to project TX population, in millions, for year 2010 Round 2 decimal places. Hi,
find the vertex, axis of symmetry, and direction of the opening of the parabola
Putting into vertex form
the vertex form of a parabola opening right or left, where(h,k) is the vertex.
1. y^2=-8x
(-1/8)y^2 = x Vertex (0,0), a = (-1/8)<0 opens to the left along x-axis
2. (y-8)^2=-4(x-4)
(1/4)(y-8)^2 +4 = x Vertex(4,8) a = (-1/4) opens left along y = 8

Hi,
Write each equation in standard form. State whether the graph of the equation is a parabola, circle,ellipse, or hyperbola.
y = x^2 + 3x + 1
y = (x+3/2)^2 -9/4 + 1 =
y = (x+3/2)^2 -5/4 |Parabola opening upward with Vertex (-3/2,-5/4)
standard form is , (x-3)^2 = y + 5/4
x^2+4y^2+2x-24y+33=0
(x+1)^2 - 1 + 4(y-3)^2 - 36 + 33 = 0
(x+1)^2 + 4(y-3)^2 = 4
(x+1)^2/4 + (y-3)^2 = 1 |Ellipse, C(-1,3) major axis along y = 3
