Graphs/163053: can someone please help me with this:
Solve the inequality and graph the solution.
5/(x-7)<6 1 solutions
Answer 120158 by edjones(7569) on 2008-10-20 02:00:27 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!5/(x-7)<6
5/(x-7)-6<0 You must convert to "<0" form before you begin solving.
5/(x-7) - 6(x-7)/(x-7) <0 Use a common denominator.
(5-6x+42)/(x-7)<0
(-6x+47)/(x-7)<0
If -6x+47=0 then -6x=-47 and x=47/6=7.83333...
7.83333 is an inflection point.
x cannot be 7 because the denominator would be 0.
7 is the other inflection point.
When x<7 then 5/(x-7)-6<0
When  then 5/(x-7)-6>0
When x>7.83333 then 5/(x-7)-6<0
X(-infinity, 7]U[7.83333..., infinity) Answer.
A good explanation of this can be found on purplemath.com

Radicals/162768: How will I go about simplifing these problem?
1) 3b[SQRT(27a^5b)] + 2a[SQRT(3a^3b^3)]
2) 3/[SQRT(5) - 2]
And how can I solve this problem?
3)  1 solutions
Answer 120011 by edjones(7569) on 2008-10-18 19:00:20 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!1)
3b(27a^5b)^(1/2)+2a(3a^3b^3)^(1/2)
3b((3*9)a^5b)^1/2+...
9b(sqrt(3)a^2.5b^.5)+...
9sqrt(3)a^2.5b^1.5...
...2a(sqrt(3)a^1.5b^1.5)
...2sqrt(3)a^2.5b^1.5
=11sqrt(3)a^2.5b^1.5
.
2)
3/(sqrt(5)-2)
=
=(3sqrt(5)+6)/(5-4)
=3sqrt(5)+6
.
3)

x+4=x-4sqrt(x)+4 Square each side.
-4sqrt(x)=0
16x=0 square each side
x=0
replace x with zero in the equation. It is not an equation. There is no answer.

Quadratic_Equations/162789: Can I please get help with:
(12)/(3x-2)+(5)/(x+4)=1
Thanks you. 1 solutions
Answer 119986 by edjones(7569) on 2008-10-18 16:19:18 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!(12)/(3x-2)+(5)/(x+4)=1
12(x+4)+5(3x-2)=(3x-2)(x+4) multiply each side by the LCM to eliminate fractions.
12x+48+15x-10=3x^2+10x-8
27x+38=3x^2+10x-8
3x^2-17x-46=0 Subtract the left side from the right.
3*-46=-138
factors of -138 that add up to -17: 6 & -23
3x^2+6x-23x-46=0
3x(x+2)-23(x+2)=0 Factoring by grouping. (easier)
(3x-23)(x+2)=0
x=-2, x=23/3

solve for y
y-6/y+6=4/7
3- a-17/a+5=a^2-3/a+5 1 solutions
Answer 119847 by edjones(7569) on 2008-10-17 01:20:54 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!(y-6)/(y+6)=4/7 I assume that this is the problem.
7(y-6)=4(y+6) Multiply each side by the LCM 7(y+6) to eliminate the fractions.
7y-42=4y+24
3y=66
y=22
.
All the other problems are similar to this. Just eliminate the fractions by multiplying by the LCM and solve them.

Quadratic_Equations/162143: This question is from Algebra II, by Bob Jones University. It is in the chapter titled, "Quadratic Equations and Inequalities. In the lesson we were to "solve for x." I have the answer and I have tried many times to work the problem backwards, but I am missing something. Can you please explain this problem to me?
5x^3-39x^2+27x+7=0 x= -1/5,7,1 1 solutions
Answer 119560 by edjones(7569) on 2008-10-15 03:05:18 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!5x^3-39x^2+27x+7=0

The graph of the formula above shows possible zeroes at 1 and 7 and a third between 0 and -1.
5-39+27+7=0 so x=1
5*343-39*49+27*7+7=0 so x=7
(x-1)(x-7)=x^2-8x+7
(5x^3-39x^2+27x+7)/(x^2-8x+7)=5x+1 (long division)
5x+1=0
5x=-1
x=-1/5
