You can put this solution on YOUR website!nCr Combination because arrangement is not important.
=n!/[(n-r)!r!]
=15!/[(15-6)!6!]
=(15*14*13*12*11*10*9!)/(9!6!)
=(15*14*13*12*11*10)/(6*5*4*3*2)

Functions/204876: This question is from textbook College Algebra
Find the domain of the function and identify and asymptotes.
y=2/4-x 1 solutions
Answer 154662 by edjones(7569) on 2009-07-31 00:26:27 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!y=2/(4-x) Assuming that this is the problem.
.
The domain is all real numbers except x=4 because division by zero is not allowed.
There is a vertical asymptote at x=4.
There is a horizontal asymptote at y=0 because x in the denominator is a higher degree than x in the numerator.

Equations/204816: This question is from textbook Longman Mathematics for IGCSE
Sophie sets off on awalk at 6km/h. Ten minutes later, her brother Dave sets off after her on his bicycle at 15km/h. How far must Dave go to catch up with Sophie? 1 solutions
Answer 154593 by edjones(7569) on 2009-07-30 11:56:42 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!d=st
For sophie: 6* 1/6 = 1 km she is ahead of dave when he starts.
Dave is traveling 9km faster than she.
9t=1
t=1/9 h to catch up to her
15 * 1/9 = 15/9 km distance dave must travel to catch up.

Equations/203226: Please Help me!!
Hi I desperately need help...the directions to this problem is to simplify
(xy^7)(x^4y)/(x^5y^2)
and i need help,, the directions are to add:
x-3/ x^2+7x+12
and i need help with solving this quadratic:
x^2-5x-1=0
if you can help me with explaining these topics in detail I would greatly appreciate your effort! Thank You!! 1 solutions
Answer 153336 by edjones(7569) on 2009-07-16 01:14:36 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!(xy^7)(x^4y)/(x^5y^2)
when multiplying add exponents; when dividing subtract them.
=(x^5y^11)/(x^5y^2)
=y^9
.
x-3/ x^2+7x+12
=(x-3)/(x+3)(x+4)
.
x^2-5x-1=0
x^2-5x =1
x^2-5x+6.25=6.25+1 Complete the square.
(x-2.5)^2=7.25
x-2.5=+-sqrt(7.25) sqrt of each side
x=2.5+sqrt(7.25), x=2.5-sqrt(7.25)

Angles/203220: What is the area and circumference of a circle with diameter 22 mm? (Give exact solutions. Include correct units with each!) 1 solutions
Answer 153334 by edjones(7569) on 2009-07-15 23:53:26 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!d=22, r =11
.
A=pi*11^2=121pi mm^2
C=22pi mm
.
There cannot be an "exact" answer because pi is an irrational number, a number that cannot be expressed as a fraction.

Linear-systems/203227: How do we write the equation of a horizontal line? What would be an example? 1 solutions
Answer 153330 by edjones(7569) on 2009-07-15 23:34:19 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!y=mx+b Slope intercept form of an equation of a line. m=slope.
In the case of a horizontal line m=0
So, y=b if m=0 irrespective of the value of x.

Exponents-negative-and-fractional/201778: On a practice test that I took it said that the equation of
A^-3 B^1/3 A^3/4 B^3 = B^10/9
-------
A^ 9/4
I want to know how that is the correct answer 1 solutions
Answer 152026 by edjones(7569) on 2009-07-02 01:39:20 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!a^(-3)b^(1/3)a^(3/4)b^3a^(-9/4)
=a^((-12/4)+(3/4)-(9/4))b(1/3)+(9/3)
=a^(-18/4)b^(10/3)
.
b^10/9 would be correct if the denominator was a^(-9/4) instead of a^(9/4)
Check the original practice test to see if you made an error copying it.

Rectangles/201289: The ratio of the areas of two squares is 6:1. find the corresponding ratio of the lengths of the diagonals of the two squares ? 1 solutions
Answer 151514 by edjones(7569) on 2009-06-26 19:45:46 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Let s=length of a side and A=area
s^2=A
when s=1 then area=1
when s=sqrt(6) the area=6
The length of the diagonals can be found using a^2+b^2=c^2
1+1=2
diagonal =sqrt(2)
6+6=12
diagonal = sqrt(12)
=sqrt(4*3)
=2sqrt(3)
The ratio of the lengths of the diagonals is 2sqrt(3):sqrt(2)

Expressions-with-variables/200547: If Sam and odel were telling pizzas and sam sold half as many pizzas as odel and together they sold 126 pizzas. How many pizzas did sam sell? (That is the question] i tried multipying "x(x/2)=126" but the answer didnt come out right. how would you set this equation up to solve the problem ? 1 solutions
Answer 150808 by edjones(7569) on 2009-06-18 19:00:01 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!You had the right idea but you add the numbers instead multiplying.
Sam's pizzas + Odel's = 126
Let x=number of pizzas Odel sold.
x/2 + x = 126
x+2x=252 multiply each side by 2 to eliminate fraction.
3x=252
x=84
84/2=42 Number of pizzas Sam sold.

Answer 150658 by edjones(7569) on 2009-06-17 00:19:44 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Let r=rate of the boat, s=speed of boat in still water, c=speed of current, t=time and d=distance
r=s + - d)
t*r=d
.
25(s-c)=100
s-c=4
s=4+c
.
5(s+c)=100
s+c=20
4+c+c=20 substitute 4+c for s.
2c=16
c=8 mph speed of current.
.
s=4+8
s=12 speed of boat in still water.
