Answer 166807 by edjones(7569) About Me  on 2009-10-07 01:09:57 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let t=tens number and u=units number
10t+u=10u+t-45
9t=9u-45
t=u-5 for the last 2 numbers
We want the first 2 numbers to be 99 if possible in order to have the largest number possible.
So t+u=9 would be best.
u-5+u=9 substitute u-5 for t
2u-5=9
2u=14
u=7
t=2
The number is 9927

Solved by pluggable solver: SOLVE quadratic equation with variable
Quadratic equation ax%5E2%2Bbx%2Bc=0 (in our case 1x%5E2%2B7x%2B-180+=+0) has the following solutons:

x%5B12%5D+=+%28b%2B-sqrt%28+b%5E2-4ac+%29%29%2F2%5Ca

For these solutions to exist, the discriminant b%5E2-4ac should not be a negative number.

First, we need to compute the discriminant b%5E2-4ac: b%5E2-4ac=%287%29%5E2-4%2A1%2A-180=769.

Discriminant d=769 is greater than zero. That means that there are two solutions: +x%5B12%5D+=+%28-7%2B-sqrt%28+769+%29%29%2F2%5Ca.

x%5B1%5D+=+%28-%287%29%2Bsqrt%28+769+%29%29%2F2%5C1+=+10.365424623862
x%5B2%5D+=+%28-%287%29-sqrt%28+769+%29%29%2F2%5C1+=+-17.365424623862

Quadratic expression 1x%5E2%2B7x%2B-180 can be factored:
1x%5E2%2B7x%2B-180+=+1%28x-10.365424623862%29%2A%28x--17.365424623862%29
Again, the answer is: 10.365424623862, -17.365424623862. Here's your graph:
graph%28+500%2C+500%2C+-10%2C+10%2C+-20%2C+20%2C+1%2Ax%5E2%2B7%2Ax%2B-180+%29

Graphs/214270: Okay so I have 2 questions.
my first one is, how do you figure out the function of a graph that
is not linear besides plugging in values for x?
My second one is, how do you figure out what the end behavior of a graph is??
and what is an asymtope?
1 solutions

Answer 162066 by edjones(7569) About Me  on 2009-09-18 00:49:42 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1) You have to plug them in or use a graphing calculator.
.
2) Asymptote= a straight line that is closely approached but never touched by a curve.
Take 1/(x+1) for example (the graph below). X can never be -1 (the vertical asymptote) because division by zero is not allowed. The end behavior of the function as x becomes very large (or very small) is that the lines get very close to the horizontal asymptote but never touch it. Note that there is a horizontal asymptote at y=0 also.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(x/(x^2-4))-1/(x+2)=2 Assuming that this is the problem.
x/((x+2)(x-2)) - 1/(x+2)=2
x-(x-2)=2(x^2-4) multiply each side by (x-2)(x+2)
x-x+2=2x^2-8
2x^2-10=0
2(x^2-5)=0
x^2=5
x=sqrt(5), x=-sqrt(5)
