Answer 337212 by cleomenius(959) on 2011-09-16 08:52:17 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!8^2 + 15^2 = 21^2
64 + 225 < 441
When c^2 < a^2 + b^2 , angle C is acute.
When c^2 > a^2 + b^2 , angle C is obtuse.
The triangle is obtuse.

Angles/498300: Twice the measure of the supplement of an angle is 39 degrees less than five times the complement of the angle. What is the measure of the angle? (Hint: Let 180 – x represent the supplement and 90 – x represent the complement.) How would I even begin writing this in a numeral sentence? 1 solutions
Answer 337204 by cleomenius(959) on 2011-09-16 08:00:10 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!2(180 - x) + 39= 5(90 - x)
360 - 2x + 399 = 450 - 5x
3x = 51
x = 17 the angle
163 degrees = the supplement.
73 degrees = the complement.
2(163) = 326 + 39 = 365
5(73) = 365
This does check.

Angles/498418: The measure of the supplement of an angle is 2 less than 3 times the complement of the angle. find the measures of all 3 angles. 1 solutions
Answer 337197 by cleomenius(959) on 2011-09-16 07:27:15 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!180 - x + 2 = 3(90 - x)
182 - x = 270 - 3x
2x = 88
x = 44 degrees, the angle.
46 degrees = the complement.
136 degrees = the supplement.
3(46) - 2 - 136 degrees.
This does check.

Angles/498461: The measure of one angle is 24 degrees greater than the measure of its complement. What are the measures of the angles??
I can't make an equation. If i have an equation, I can probably take it from there.
thanks! 1 solutions
Answer 337194 by cleomenius(959) on 2011-09-16 07:17:55 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!x + x + 24 = 90
2x = 66
x = 33 degrees, The smaller angle.
33 + 24 = 57, This is the larger angle.
57 + 33 = 90 degrees.
This does check.

Angles/498618: When one-half the supplement of an angle is added to the complement of the angle, the sum is 120 Find the measure of the complement 1 solutions
Answer 337184 by cleomenius(959) on 2011-09-16 06:34:50 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!1/2(180 - x) + (90 - x) = 120
90 - 1/2x + 90 - x = 120
60 = 1 1/2x
40 = x
The supplement is 140 degrees,
The complement is 50 degrees.
1/2(140) + 50 - 120.
This does check.

Angles/498755: 12degree less than one half the supplement of an angle is the same as the complement find the measure of the angle. 1 solutions
Answer 337182 by cleomenius(959) on 2011-09-16 06:27:03 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!1/2(180 - x) - 12 = 90 - x
90 - 1/2x -12 = 90 - x
78 - 1/2x = 90 -x
1/2x = 12
x = 24
complement = 66 degrees
supplement = 156 degrees
156/2 - 78 - 12 = 56,
This does check.

Rectangles/497721: The area of a rectangular garden is 108 square meters. The width is 3 meters longer than one-half the length. Find the length and the width of the garden. 1 solutions
Answer 336990 by cleomenius(959) on 2011-09-15 11:51:19 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!length = 2x
width = x + 3
(2x)(x + 3)= 108
2x^2 + 6x - 108 = 0
2(x^2 + 3x - 54) = 0
2(x + 9)(x - 6) = 0
x = 6
length= 12 meters.
width = 1/2(12) + 3 = 9 meters.
9 * 12 = 108 meters.
This does check.

Rectangles/497788: the perimeter of a rectangle is 64 ft. the lenght is 8 ft less than 3 times the width. find the length and width 1 solutions
Answer 336987 by cleomenius(959) on 2011-09-15 11:35:37 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!l = 3x - 8
w = x
2(3x - 8) + 2x = 64.
6x -16 + 2x = 64
8x = 80
x = 10 ft the width.
The length = 3(10) - 8 = 22 ft.
2(22) + 2(10) = 64 feet. This does check.

Rectangles/497872: a rectangle and a square have the same width but the rectangle in 6m longer than the square. Their total area is 176 sq. m. Find the dimensions of each figure 1 solutions
Answer 336984 by cleomenius(959) on 2011-09-15 11:26:41 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The area of the square is x^2.
The area of the rectangle is (x)*(x+6)
x^2 + (x) *(x + 6) = 176
x^2 + x^2 + 6x = 176
2x^2 + 6x - 176
2(x + 3 - 88)
(x - 8)(x+ 11)
x = 8.
================================================
For the square, the area is:
8*8= 64 sq meters.
For the rectangle, the area is:
8*14 = 112 sq meters.
64 + 84 = 176 square meters. This does check.

Rectangles/497930: A rectangle has a perimeter of 70. What is the 4 to 5 (length to width) ratio of this rectangle ? 1 solutions
Answer 336979 by cleomenius(959) on 2011-09-15 11:05:59 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!70 + 2 = 35
35 * 4/9 = 15.56
35 * 5/9 = 19.44
15.56 + 19.44 = 35.
l = 15.56
w = 19.44
2(15.56) = 31.12
2(19.44) = 38.88
31.12 + 38.88 = 70

Rectangles/497975: 5 cm more than the length of rectangle is less than equal to 44 cm greater than or equal to 20 cm. The width of the same rectangle is 10 cm. What is the positive difference between the maximum possible are of rectangle and least possible area of rectangle 1 solutions
Answer 336978 by cleomenius(959) on 2011-09-15 10:59:09 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Form the way I interpret this question, the length will range from 39 cm to 15 cm.
The width is constant at 10 cm.
The maximum area will be 39 * 10 or 390 cm.
The minimum area will be 15 * 10 cm or 150 cm.
So the difference will be 390 - 150 or 240 cm.

Rectangles/498016: A box with a square base and no top is to be made from a square piece of cardboard by cutting 4 inch squares from each corner and folding up the sides. The box is to hold 100 in cubed. How big a piece of cardboard is needed. 1 solutions
Answer 336973 by cleomenius(959) on 2011-09-15 10:44:17 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!The volume will be L*W*H
We are cutting 4 inches from each corner, so the length and width will each be
x - 8.
The height will be 4.
100 = 4* (x - 8)* (x - 8)
25 = (x - 8)^2
5 = x - 8
13 inches= x.
The piece of cardboard needed will be 13 by 13 inches.
