Answer 100270 by checkley77(12569) on 2008-04-16 18:33:25 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!distance between (6,-1)and (-3,7)is:
for the x distance we have 6+3=9
for the y distance we have 7+1=8
thus we have a right triangle with 2 sides of 9 & 8 & we're looking for the hypotenuse using:
[a^2+b^2=c^2].
8^2+9^2=h^2
64+81=h^2
145=h^2
h=sqrt145
h=12.0416 is the distance between these 2 points.

Linear-equations/136888: This question is from textbook Pre-algebra
i'm having a hard time understanding how to identify the slope and y-intercept of y = -4/3x + 3 and graphing the line. 1 solutions
Answer 100263 by checkley77(12569) on 2008-04-16 18:15:16 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Y=mX+b IS THE STANDARD LINE FORMULA WHERE m=SLOPE & b=Y INTERCEPT.
y = -4/3x + 3
HERE WE HAVE A SLOPE m=-4/3
HERE WE HAVE A Y INTERCEPT (b) OF (0,3)
 (graph 300x200 pixels, x from -6 to 5, y from -10 to 10, -4x/3 +3).

Linear-equations/136902: BOBS POPCORN DELIGHT SHOP HAS TWO TYPES OF POPCORN. BUTTER POPCORN SELLS FOR 3.99 FOR A 12OZ BAG AND NON BUTTER POPCORN SELLS FOR 2.99 A 12 0Z BAG. HOW MANY BAGS OF EACH DOES BOB NEED TO MIX TO GET 50 12 OZ BAG TO PRODUCE A MIXTURE OF BOTH POPCORNS THAT SELLS FOR 3.49? ROUND EACH BAG TO THE NEAREST WHOLE NUMBER
1 solutions
Answer 100261 by checkley77(12569) on 2008-04-16 18:04:08 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!(3.99+2.99)/2=3.49
6.98/2=3.49
3.49=3.49
THEREFORE THE AMOUNT NEEDED (50 12 OZ BAGE) IS DIVIED EQUALLY BETWEEN THE 2 TYPES.
25 BAGS EACH.
PROOF
25*3.99+25*2.99=50*3.49
99.75+74.75=174.50
174.50=174.50

Money_Word_Problems/136948: Chris has invested $2,300 in two small businesses. Last year, the greeting card business made a 14% profit on his investment in the business, while the bicycle repair business showed a 6% loss. If Chris' net profit from the two businesses was $102, her investment in the greeting card business was $___? 1 solutions
Answer 100256 by checkley77(12569) on 2008-04-16 17:24:33 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!.14X-.06(2300-X)=102
.14X-138+.06X=102
.2X=102+138
.2X=240
X=240/.2
X=1200 INVESTED @ 14%
2300-1200=1100 INVESTED @ 6%
PROOF
.14*1200-.06*1100=102
168-66=102
102=102

Rate-of-work-word-problems/136978: Hi, I was hoping I could get some help...
Sara takes 3 hours longer to paint a floor than it takes Katie. When they work together, it takes them 2 hours.How long would each take to do the job alone?
So far I have
Sara=X+3
Kate=X
(2/X+3 + 2/X = 1) all that multiplied by X(X+3)
But I don't know what to do next, or even if that is right
Thank you for the help 1 solutions
Answer 100250 by checkley77(12569) on 2008-04-16 16:52:04 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!SORRY SORRY SORRY. i MISREAD THE PROBLEM AND USED SARA'S TIME AS 3 TIMES kATIE INSTEAD OF 3 HOURS LONGER.
the formula for working together is:
x*y/(x+y) time working together.
Sara=k+3
Katie=k
K(K+3)/(K+3+K)=2
(K^2+3K)/(2K+3)=2
K^2+3K=2(2K+3)
K^2+3K=4K+6
K^2+3K-4K-6=0
K^2-K-6=0
(K-3)(K+2)
K-3=0
K=3 HOURS FOR KATIE WORKING ALONE.
3+3=6 HOURS FOR SARA WORKING ALONE.

Travel_Word_Problems/136979: Please help...
A boat moves 7 kph in still water. It travels 445 km upriver and 45 km downriver in a total time of 14 hours. What is the speed of the current?
All I know is that the distances are equal.
But I don't know how to set up the equation and how to solve it.
Thank you for the help. 1 solutions
Answer 100249 by checkley77(12569) on 2008-04-16 16:44:46 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!d=rt or d/r=t
45/(7+x)+4/(7-x)=14
[45(7-x)+45(7+x)]/(7+x)(7-x)=14
[315-45x+315+45x]/(49-x^2)=14
630/(49-x^2)=14 now cross multiply
14(49-x^2)=630
686-14x^2=630
-14x^2=630-686
-14x^2=-56
x^2=-56/-14
x^2=4
x=sqrt4
x=2 kmph is the speed of the current.
45/(7+2)+45/(7-2)=14
45/9+45/5=14
5+9=14
14=14

Triangles/136957: Please help! I need to find the length of the base of a triangle in which the base of said triangle is 3 times its height with an area of 216 Cm2.
Thanks. 1 solutions
Answer 100231 by checkley77(12569) on 2008-04-16 14:15:19 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!B=3H
FORMULA FOR THE AREA OF A TRIANGLRE IS :
AREA=BH/2 OR
216=3H*H/2
216=3H^2/2
3H^2=2*216
3H^2=432
H^2=432/3
H^2=144
H=SQRT144
H=12 ANSWER FOR THE HEIGHT.
B=3*12=36 ANSWER FOR THE BASE.
PROOF:
216=3*12*12/2
216=216

You can put this solution on YOUR website!g(x)= 2x^2- 2x-4 , FIND THE FOLLOWING)
g(x-2)
JUST REPLACE X BY(X-2) & SOLVE THUS:
G(X-2)=2(X-2)^2-2(X-2)-4
G(X-2)=2(X^2-4X+4)-2X+4-4
G(X-2)=2X^-8X+8-2X
G(X-2)=2X^2-10X+8
G(X-2)=2(X^2-5X+4)
G(X-2)=2(X-4)(X-1)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!ARE YOU SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT DATA FOR THIS PROBLEM?>
YOU CANNOT MIX $2.99 & $3.99 POPCORN & GET A MIX WORTH $2.49.
THE COST OF ANY MIX MUST BE PRICED BETWEEN $2.99 & $3.99.
$2.49 DOES NOT FIT ANY SOLUTION.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!780/2=390 MPH AGAINST THE WIND
780/1.5=520 MPH WITH THE WIND
(520-390)/2=130/2=65 MPH FOR THE WIND SPED.
PROOF:
520-65=390+65
455=455 THIS IS THE SPEED OF THE PLANE IN STILL AIR.
