Answer 106932 by checkley77(12569) on 2008-06-26 15:56:01 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!C=0.6xsq-140x+6200
R=-0.4xsq+130
profit=revenue-cost.
10,000=-.4x^2+130-(0.6x^2-140x+6,200)
10,000=-.4x^2+130-.6x^2+140x-6,200
x^2-140x+10,000-6,200-130=0
x^2-140x+3,670=0
using the quadratic equation we get:
x=(140+-sqrt[-140^2-4*1*3,670/2*1
x=(140+-sqrt[19,600-14,680)/2
x=(140+-sqrt[4,920]/2
x=(140+-70.14)/2
x=(140+70.14)/2
x=210.14/2
x=105.07 answer.
x=(140-70.14)/2
x=69.86/2
x=34.9 answer.

Linear-equations/146519: A line passing through (15,19) and (10, Y) is parallel to a line with slope 2. What is the value of Y.
I tried working this problem by using the following equation...
M= Y2-Y1/X2-X1
M= Y-19/10-15
Now if they want the slope to be a positive number, then why is the bottom half of the equation (10-15) going to be a negative number (-5). To me, there is no way to get a slope of 2 from this equation. Can you please help. 1 solutions

Mixture_Word_Problems/146391: The Good Seed Flower Shop sells its own brand of fertilizer. It mixes one brand of fertilizer that contains 7% nitrogen with another than contains 8% nitrogen. The resulting mixture contains 7.7% nitrogen. How many pounds of the 7% fertilizer must be used to make 400 pounds of the 7.7% mixture? 1 solutions

You can put this solution on YOUR website!.07x+.08(400-x)=.077*400
.07x+32-.08x=30.8
-.01x=30.8-32
-.01x=-1.2
x=-1.2/-.01
x=120 pds. of 7% nitrogen is used.
400-120=380 pds. of 8% is used.
proof:
.07*120+.08*280=30.8
8.4+22.4=30.8
30.8=30.8

Volume/146296: Find the volume, to the nearest tenth, of a pyramid that is 6 feet tall and whose base is an equilateral triangle with sides each 10 feet long???? 1 solutions
Answer 106853 by checkley77(12569) on 2008-06-24 22:47:13 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!V=1/3BH
FIRST WE FIND THE BASE AREA.
WE CONSTRUCT 2 RIGHT TRIANGLES BY DRAWING A PERPENDICULAR LINE FROM ONE CORNER TO THE CENTERER OF THE OPPOSITE SIDE. ONE SIDE OF THESE TRIANGLES IS 5 FEET & THE HYPOTENUSE IS 10 FEET.
USING THE PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM A^2+B^2=C^2 WE GET:
5^2+x^2=10^2
25+X^2=100
X^2=100-25
X^2=75
X=SQRT75
X=8.66 FOR THE HEIGHT.
AREA OF 2 TRIANGLES=2*5*8.66=86.6 FT^2.
V=1/3*86.6*6
V=519.6/3
V=173.2 FT^3

Shrinking garden. Rose’s garden is a square with sides of length x feet. Next spring she plans to make it rectangular by lengthening one side 5 feet and shortening the other side by 5 feet. What polynomial represents the new area? By how much will the area of the new garden differ from that of the old garden? 1 solutions
Answer 106840 by checkley77(12569) on 2008-06-24 22:02:38 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!x*x=x^2 is the original area of the garden
(x+5)(x-5)=x^2-25 ix the area of the modified garden.
The new garden will be 25ft^2 less than the original garden.

3x - 4y = -3 1 solutions
Answer 106807 by checkley77(12569) on 2008-06-24 15:12:14 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!2x + 3y = 6 multiply by 3
3x - 4y = -3 multiply by -2
6x+9y=18
-6x+8y=6 now add.

y=24/17 answer.
2x+3*24/17=6
2x+72/17=6
2x=6-72/17
2x=(6*17-72)/17
2x=(102-72)/17
2x=30/17
x=(30/17)/2
x=30/17*1/2

Probability-and-statistics/146098: This question is from textbook
how would i do this? The letters of the word Mississippi are placed in a hat. What is the probability that the first two letters drawn are both i if the first letter drawn is not replaced?
1 solutions
Answer 106660 by checkley77(12569) on 2008-06-23 07:49:35 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!The first draw has a success of 4 out of 11.
The second draw has a success 3 out of 10
Thus we have:
4/11*3/10=12/110=6/55 is the chances of picking an i on the first & second draw.

Write equation of the line through (0,32) and (10,60) to model the growth of direct deposit
Use equation to predict the year in which 100% of all workers will receive direct deposit
1 solutions
Answer 106633 by checkley77(12569) on 2008-06-22 19:56:32 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!(0,32) (10,60)
first we find the slope (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
(60-32)/(10-0)
28/10=2.8 is the slope.
now replace one set of (x,y) values in the line equation (Y=mX+b) & solve for b.
32=2.8*0+b
b=32 for the y intercept.
tghus the line equation is:
y=2.8x+32
100=2.8x+32
2.8x=100-32
2.8x=68
x=68/2.8
x=24.2857 or 1994+24.2857=2018 Is the year when 100% are projected to be direct depositing.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!5a+24b=109.60
5a=109.6-24b
a=109.6/5-24b/5
now substitute (109.6/5-24b/5) for a in the other equation & solve for b.
16a+24b=171
16(109.6/5-24b/5)+24b=171
1753.6/5-384b/5+24b=171
-384b/5+24b=171-1753.6/5
(-384b+5*24b)/5=(5*171-1753.6)/5
(-384b+120b)/5=(855-1753.6)/5
264b/5=898.6/5 csncelling out the denominators we have:
264b=898.6
b=989.6/264 answer.
16a+24(898.6/264)=171
16a+21566.4/264=171
16a=171-21566.4/264
16a=(171*264-21566.4)/264
16a=(45144-21566.4)/264
16a=23577.6/264
a=(23577.6/264)(1/16)
a=23577.6/4224
a=61.4/11 answer.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!Y=mX+b where m=SLOPE.
The slope determines the steepness of the line.
The larger the slope value the steeper the line.
Therefore the smallest value for the slope is 1/2 thus answer d) has the flattest line.
