Linear-systems/83635: The solutions of line m are (3, 3), (5, 5), (15, 15), (34, 34), (678, 678), and (1234, 1234).
The solutions of line n are (3, -3), (5, -5), (15, -15), (34, -34), (678, -678), and (1234, -1234).
Form the equations of both the lines.
What are the co-ordinates of the point of intersection of lines m and n?
Write the co-ordinates of the intersections of lines m and n with the x-axis.
Write the co-ordinates of the intersection of lines m and n with the y-axis.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!first equation: slope=(5-3)/(5-3)=2/2=1.
3=1*3+b, 3=3+b, b=3-3, b=0.
thus we have the line equation y=x (red line-m) (intersect=0,0)
second equation:slope=(-3-3)/(5-3)=-6/2=-3.
-3=-3*3+b, -3=-9+b. -3+9=b. b=6.
thus we have the line equation y=-3x+6 (green line-n) (intersect=2,6)
 (graph 300x300 pixels, x from -6 to 5, y from -10 to 10, of TWO functions y = x and y = -3x +6).
y=x now substitute in the second equation
x=-3x+6
x+3x=6
4x=6
x=6/4
x=3/2 answer.
y=3/2 answer.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!SQRT(X+3)=X-3 SQUARING BOTH SIDES WE GET:
X+3=(X-3)^2
X+3=X^2-6X+9
X^2-6X-X+9-3=0
X^2-7X+6=0
(X-6)(X-1)=0
X-6=0
X=6 ANSWER.
SQRT(6+3)=6-3
SQRT9=3
+/-3=3 (+3)SOLUTION
X-1=0
X=1 ANSWER.
SQRT(1+3)=1-3

Graphs/83472: I have been trying to solve these equations by graphing them but I'm getting a little lost.
1. a 2x-y=4
b 2x-y=6
2. a x-2y=8
b 3x-2y=12
3. a 3x-6y=9
b x-2y=3
The values for m and b in the following system has to be found so that the solution to the system is (-3,4)
5x+7y=b
mx+y=22

You can put this solution on YOUR website!TO SOLVE THESE LINE EQUATION YOU MUST FIRST CHANGE THEM INTO THE STANDARD EQUATION FOR A LINE THUS:
1A) 2x-y=4, -y=-2x+4, y=2x-4 (red line)
1B) 2x-y=6, -y=-2x+6, y=2x-6 (green line)
 (graph 300x200 pixels, x from -6 to 5, y from -10 to 10, of TWO functions y = 2x -4 and y = 2x -6).
-----------------------------------------------------------
2A) X-2Y=8,-2Y=-X+8, Y=-X/-2+8/-2, Y=X/2-4 (RED LINE)
2B) 3X-2Y=12, -2Y=-3X=12, Y=-3X/-2+12/-2, Y=3X/2-6 (GREEN LINE)
 (graph 300x200 pixels, x from -6 to 5, y from -10 to 10, of TWO functions y = x/2 -4 and y = 3x/2 -6).

You can put this solution on YOUR website!WHAT YOU ARE NOT DOING IS TAKING THE SQUARE ROOT OF BOTH NUMERATOR & DENOMINATOR. YOU MUST TAKE THE SQRT OF ALL VALUES UNDER THE RADICAL.
EXAMPLE: SQRT(16/64)=SQRT(4*4/8*8)=4/8=1/2 OR SQRT(16/64)=SQRT(1/4)=1/2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SQRT(4/25)=SQRT(2*2/5*5)=2/5

Answer 59855 by checkley75(3666) on 2007-05-24 20:12:58 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!2d+d+n=20, n=20-3d
25*2d+10*d+5(20-3d)=370
50d+10d+100-15d=370
45d=370-100
45d=270
d=270/45
d=6 number of dimes.
2*6=12 number of quarters.
20-6-12=2 number of nickles.
proof
12*25+6*10+2*5=370
300+60+10=370
370=370
