Linear-equations/661986: 1/3v=-5 How would I solve this equation? I know it seems simple, but I'm having a bit of trouble. Thank you for your help!! Christian Hall1 solutions Answer 411862 by ankor@dixie-net.com(15628)   on 2012-10-04 20:35:51 (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!Assuming you mean: v = -5 multiply both sides by 3 v = -15
Triangles/661695: If the bottom of a triangle is 60 inches and the angle of the triangle is 15 degrees, what is the measurement of the third side of the triangle? Thank you for your help.1 solutions Answer 411807 by ankor@dixie-net.com(15628)   on 2012-10-04 16:43:03 (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website! Not enough information here, you need two sides and an angle, to find the 3rd side
 Percentage-and-ratio-word-problems/661714: I need help, heres the question: "In a certain fraction the denominator is 5 less than the numerator. If 5 is added to both the numerator and the denominator, the resulting fraction is equivalent to 5/4. find the original fraction." was it -1/4 ?1 solutions Answer 411804 by ankor@dixie-net.com(15628)   on 2012-10-04 16:28:21 (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!"In a certain fraction the denominator is 5 less than the numerator. If 5 is added to both the numerator and the denominator, the resulting fraction is equivalent to 5/4. find the original fraction." : Let the fraction be " the denominator is 5 less than the numerator." d = n - 5 : "If 5 is added to both the numerator and the denominator, the resulting fraction is equivalent to 5/4." = cross multiply 4(n+5) = 5(d+5) 4n + 20 = 5d + 25 4n = 5d + 25 - 20 4n = 5d + 5 Replace d with (n-5) 4n = 5(n-5) + 5 4n = 5n - 25 + 5 4n = 5n - 20 20 = 5n - 4n n = 20 therefore d = 20 - 5 d = 15 : the original equation:
 Expressions-with-variables/661770: i need help to solve this equation using the substitution method 4x-y= -1 3x+2y= 131 solutions Answer 411796 by ankor@dixie-net.com(15628)   on 2012-10-04 16:12:03 (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!solve this equation using the substitution method 4x-y= -1 3x+2y= 13 : Use the 1st equation for substitution 4x - y = -1 subtract 4x from both sides -y = -4x - 1 y has to be positive, multiply both sides by -1 y = 4x + 1 : Replace y with (4x+1) in the 2nd equation 3x + 2(4x+1) = 13 3x + 8x + 2 = 13 subtract 2 from both sides 3x + 8x = 13 - 2 11x = 11 x = 11/11 x = 1 Find y y = 4x + 1 y = 4(1) + 1 y = 5 : Check solution of x=1, y=5 in the 2nd equation 3x + 2y = 13 3(1) + 2(5) = 13 3 + 10 = 13
Proportions/661787: my daughter is having problems solving this question and i have tried but am not sure that i am right.Help me solve this equation: 3/r = 18/20 I got 3 with a remainder of 61 solutions Answer 411794 by ankor@dixie-net.com(15628)   on 2012-10-04 15:57:41 (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!solve this equation: 3/r = 18/20 cross multiply 18r = 60 r = 60/18, reduces to 10/3 or 3, so you are right
 Linear-equations/661733: hello the question is "find the equation on a straight line that passes through the points (2,7) and (14,31)" please can you explain how to do this ??1 solutions Answer 411793 by ankor@dixie-net.com(15628)   on 2012-10-04 15:50:58 (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!find the equation on a straight line that passes through the points (2,7) and (14,31)" : Assign the given pairs as follows: x1 = 2; y1 = 7 x2 = 14; y2 = 31 : Find the slope using the slope formula m = m = = = 2 : Find the equation using the point/slope formula: y - y1 = m(x - x1) y - 7 = 2(x - 2) y - 7 = 2x - 4 y = 2x - 4 + 7 y = 2x + 3 is the equation for the given line : You can confirm this for yourself, replace x with 2, find y, should = 7 Do the same with the 2nd pair
Equations/661690: f(x)=x-5; (4,y) is this ordered pair a solution or no. I"ve tried this solution with my mom but we couldnt figure it out. Thankyou for all of your help1 solutions Answer 411759 by ankor@dixie-net.com(15628)   on 2012-10-04 12:09:50 (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website! f(x)=x-5; (4,y) is this ordered pair a solution or no. : It could be f(x) = y then y = x - 5 When x = 4 y = 4 - 5 y = -1 : Then the ordered pair would be 4,-1
Graphs/661363: Could you please help my son? You want to solve an inequality containing the expression -3(2x-3). The next line in your solution would rewrite this expression as ? The first runner crosses the finish line in 15 minutes and averages 16 kilometers per hour. The second runner crossed the finish line 5 minutes after the first runner. Find the second runner's speed. : First find the distance of the race from the 1st runners time and distance He finished the race in 15 min which is 1/4 hr, dist = speed * time dist = 16 * 1/4 dist = 4 km: : With this information we can find the 2nd runners speed (s = dist/time) The 2nd runner took 5 min longer than the 1st runner or 20 min which is 1/3 hr : s = 4/(1/3) s = 4 * 3 s = 12 km/hr is the 2nd runners speed : Did this make sense to you now? The exact same route on the return trip is driven at 55mph. The trip there took 12 minutes longer than the return trip? How do you calculate the time it took to drive round-trip? : Let t = time at 55 mph then convert 12 min to hrs, 12/60 = .2 hrs (t+.2) = the time at 45 mph : The distance each way is the same, write a distance equation, dist = speed * time : 55t = 45(t+.2) 55t = 45t + 9 55t - 45t = 9 10t = 9 t = 9/10 t = .9 hrs at 55 mph (.9*60 = 54 min) then .9 + .2 = 1.1 hrs at 45 mph (1.1*60 = 66 min) total time: .9 + 1.1 = 2 hrs to drive the round trip ; ; Confirm this by finding the actual distances, they should be equal 55 * .9 = 49.5 mi 45 * 1.1= 49.5 mi
